I started my raw diet on the 1st and have been about 95% raw for the past 4-5 days. I've been eating all fruit along with some almonds, and the only vegetables I've had are steamed. So I'm not eating the veggies I should be :|
Yesterday I didn't eat much because I wasn't hungry, but last night I started feeling a hungry/nauseous feeling and it was upsetting my stomach, so I ate more. (I'm sure my calories were at at least 1,000 calories, and I know I should be eating more) I then went to the bathroom and it was green like it has been for the past few days. Could this be the toxins leaving my body that are making me feel like this? I didn't have it the first few days, and last night I was just nauseous. I tried going to sleep (because it was around three in the morning) and drifted off a little and woke up gasping. I don't know if I was setting myself up because I wasn't sure why I was feeling the way I was or what. But I did go to sleep and slept fine until this morning, and now I have only a light stomach ache off and on (but when I ate some cherries I started to feel nauseous again, but it did go away) I don't know! Sorry for the incredibly long story! I am just excited about the transition I've made especially since I am no longer getting huge cravings and I am just not sure what exactly is going on! Has anybody else experienced this? Is it my body cleansing itself? Thank you!

if you have suddenly switched to an almost all fruit diet then it's going to make a difference in the toilet department. I would hazard that that you'll feel better the longer you are raw but suggest that you try to eat your veggies raw and reduce the amount of fruit so that your digestive system can get accustomed to the new high level of fibre going through.

You might like to sprout some seeds and grains and get some of your extra, raw veg that way. It's cheap too which is always a bonus.

What's the 5% not raw? Just steamed veggies or...?

Often when people begin eating raw, they blame raw for whatever is going on instead of looking at what they aren't eating raw. If it's just steamed veggies, that's probably not the problem. If you're eating other stuff....

Ohh no the other 5% is processed CRAP! It seems plausible to blame that, but I was hoping this sick feeling is everything being pushed out of me. I just don't know if the kind of sick I explained is the kind of sick others feel when just starting out or something else. But I see what your getting at now, thanks!

One can always hope yet, consider this... if you keep putting crap in, it's way more work for your system to get crap out. So yeah, you might be feeling sick... here's a test for you ~ stop putting crap in and see if the sick feeling goes away.

definitely look seriously at ditching that 5% - chances are it's more than 5%, depending on how one calculates these things and how easy it is to magically disappear the rubbish and make it seem insignificant.

Drink plenty of water between meals. The influx of fibre will have a dehydrating effect.

I too have just gone raw as well :)

Personally I had a very hard time digesting some of the raw veg I was eating, as I was eating it in abundance (to much cellulose in some veggies for my gut). I have since had to scale back and stick to celery, cucumber, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, pepper (not green any other colour is okay) and then whatever fruit you want. Baby spinach in smoothies is coming back into my diet now too. Juicing has been awesome for nutrients without all the digestion.

I will introduce other things more carefully as I go. Some people go into a raw diet with little in the way of bumps. People also think that raw is so much easier for the body. Fruits I would agree with wholeheartedly but some veg, no way.

This of course is just my personal experience over the past 4 weeks.

Yeah - at 5% I'd put that down to a couple of ketchup packets....

Hahaha! Ohh my, well then. But I do mean over the course of the four days, three of which were totally raw (other than the vegetables). But I see what you mean, I may have sucked up more than a few ketchup packets... :O

When I started my raw vegan lifestyle, I was ill after the 2nd or 3rd day. It felt like the flu. I was nauseas too.

I had a few "withdrawal" symptoms. Headache, nausea a touch of diarrhea too. I think it was mostly me detoxing from all the chemicals and processed products (I refuse to refer to them as food!) that I was addicted to. I have noticed the media is finally beginning to report the addictive nature of these product and the negative impact they have on your physical and mental health.

Almonds are great for fats and proteins, but if you're having just a little, you may not be giving your body all the nutrients it needs. Before you switch to a fully raw diet, make sure you know which veggies provide you with the 10 essential amino acids: Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, Valine, Histidine, Tyrosine. If you do not get any of these in sufficient amounts, you may end up having serious health problems (with the exception of Tyrosine, which is essential only in some cases).

The good news is you can get them all from vegetable sources:

Isoleucine - almonds, cashews, lentils
Leucine – soybeans, lentils, peanuts, chickpeas, tahini, flax seed
Lysine – peas, beans, cereals
Methionine - sesame seeds, Brazil nuts, cereal grains
Phenylalanine - peanuts, sesame seeds, lentils
Threonine – peanuts, sesame seeds, lentils
Tryptophan – spirulina, soybeans, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, rice, banana, potatoes
Valine - peanuts, sesame seeds, lentils
Histidine – rice, wheat, rye
Tyrosine – soy, avocado, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds.

Make sure you include considerable amounts of these foods - as you can see, some carry most of the amino-acids you need (lentils, beans, peanuts). By consuming lots of fruits and greens, you're definitely getting the vitamins and minerals you need. Just make sure you include proteins and fats too.
