View Full Version : July 2011 - Join in anytime... FASTING THREAD

PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!

There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.

And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.

Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.

We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!

Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?

Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.

I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.

And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!

So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.

I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

Aleesha, Thank you for the update. You remain in thoughts and prayers.

Day 20 today. Amazed at the journey thus far. Tomorrow is my original commitment date so not sure if I will continue on for another 10 days or start transitioning back to raw. Will see tomorrow.

Hope you are all going forward in July.

Good luck with everything, Aleesha.

That's awesome Lady Green Jeans! Way to go. :)

Finished day 9. Tomorrow is the last day of the fast for me, although I will be juice fasting for a bit longer. I want to go back to raw foods as slowly as I can.

Hope things work out in the condo Aleesha, a fresh start is a great way to begin. I'm sure you 'll feel better once you can start fasting again. She calls her precious to her..
Hoping to do some fasting this month. Nothing like a new month to start a fresh fast. I've been heading closer and closer to a fruitarian lifestyle. It seems to agree with me and with regular fasting.

Day 10 for me. Last day. I'm thankful this forum was here to hold myself accountable. Master cleanse was hard for me, but very rewarding. I feel good this morning. Tomorrow I will be juicing oranges and then watermelon. :) Good luck everyone! See you on the next fast. :heart

I'm like that home is where the heart is and I can never move about much - but when I do move I settle quickly because I want to put down roots ... funny and totally OT so I'll shut up now!

Getting back on topic ... I know I am moving towards a fast of some sort and it may be this month I don't know when just that it is getting closer!

Adobegirl, congratulations!!!!!!!!! Thank you for walking the last few days with me, it was great to feel your presence and know I wasn't alone!

I'm starting a challenge on another forum, so, today was weigh in and measure day, and I've spent the last few days pondering my eating goals, and what being a raw-fooder means to me (percent raw, amount of fat, etc). Those are questions I've never really nailed down hard, and waffled on, so, that's left me with too much wiggle room and made it oh so possible to sit in the evenings and eat SAD junk, which is so totally counter intuitive.

Like you, I'll probably be doing more juices and smoothies for a while, but I've also started dehydrating a few things and reviewing recipes.

It looks more probable that I'll be going down to move my father, so I've been looking at less expensive blender alternatives. I hate to add too much weight to my suitcase, but being Vitamix spoiled, I know I won't be happy with a blender with a tiny music box motor, so I'm looking at the Ninja. Heavier than I want, but a compromise with regard to getting more power.

Congrats on doing it! I'm proud of you.

Day ten for me, so, winding it down. I'll probably do another fast later in the summer or early fall after life settles down. Life WILL settle down, won't it?

I love fasting. Today I baked treats for the new neighbors. I SO enjoyed what I call "tasting without eating."

There's a way of taking in food visually, through smell, texture, without ever having put a tiny bit of it in one's mouth. And I know howsick and sluggish I'd feel if I dug in to the items I was making. I have a long journal entry about it. That's what Master Cleanse gives me.

For some reason, I'm far less successful at avoiding junk when I'm just raw, as opposed to fasting. So far. Looking for change. . . .

Freeing. And frustrating.

And thank you for the update. I have been thinking about you, and am so happy to hear you are finally moving into the condo today! I wish you much joy in your new home! :)

Thanks! You too!

It was so nice being able to come here. I was tickled to see that you had started the same day as me. It helped me a lot! Hope it did you too. :)

The challenge you are doing sounds interesting. Good luck with it!

I am not sure life will settle down... but maybe we can find peace in the midst of it. That's what I'm trying to do. Let go of what I can't do anything about and move on. :heart

Aleesha, it's so good to see you here again! I'm sorry the renovation process has been so frustrating. Will be good for you to get to a good stopping point (even if it's not all the way done yet) and can get back to fasting. The precious is calling Lady Awen! :juicy:

GoodCat, have a great time with your sis!

Lady Green Jeans, way to go on your 20 day fast!!! Clapping loudly for ya. Adobe...you're doing great too! Aren't you glad you were able to accomplish that?

Deborah, let me say first,... my heart really goes out to you for what you are having to watch your Dad go thru. :hug And walking thru it yourself. It's so so very painful. I know first hand about that process as I went thru it in 2007 right before my Dad went to his eternal home in heaven. I will pray for your family and if you need a listening ear, please feel free to pm me.

Also I wanted to respond to one of your posts in the June thread:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adobe!!! As you know, I'm finishing up day five of MC as well.

I have a different take on the smelling of foods than you do. There is much pleasure to be had in life, drinking in beauty through our senses - the sight of an eagle riding the thermals above a serene lake, beautiful flowers (both visually and fragrance), the taste of a sweet, fresh, juicy peach, lovely music . . .

One of the lessons Master Cleanse has given me is that I can enjoy food wtihout consuming it. I went to the Highland Games today and was surrounded by kinds of meat based foods I haven't eaten in years, but I have to admit that I do still enjoy the smell. But I don't have to have it.

That hasn't translated to all non-raw foods for me (yet), but I hope to get there.

Don't beat yourself up, you've got five whole days under your belt, congratulations!

Deborah

I love this! You have a way with words and I love the way you wrote about drinking in beauty thru all our senses. As far as smelling food. It reminds me of reading past threads of Good Cat and Aleesha talking about putting their nose in foods and drinking in the smell, while fasting. I do that sometimes too! Like when I've made something for my kids. I call it my aromatherapy. Can enjoy it, but I don't have to eat it!

Another quote from you:

Adobe, I've done a lot of self-healing work on past garbage, if you want to chat about that in another thread.

I'm thinking I'll do a once a week one-day fast while doing the raw challenge, just to keep me in the mind-set more. I'm so prone to slipage.

My dehydrated goodies are probably going to get shoved in Tupperwares for the upcoming trip, if that does happen. So, I'm not tempted, they are for later. Besides, garlic kale chips would be a horrid way to break a fast.

I'm going to break fast with watermelon or orange juice day one, green smoothies day two.

Good stuff here.

Deborah
__________________

This is so me. In the past, I have been very prone to going down that slippery slope and landing right INTO the pit of junk food H**l! I believe that is behind me now but I still need to be mindful of what I eat and not reach for ANYTHING that's not good for me. Even eating to heavy of a raw meal even if it's soaked and prepared right can leave you feeling heavy and that in itself had caused me to feel discouraged and start me down the wrong path. No more though. I'm aware of it, and Im feeling to good now that I've lost the weight. I might fast once a week just to keep me grounded and in touch with fasting. Then in a few months I'll come back here for a little tune up.

Now this is my last night fasting! Oh my gosh, I'm done. I just looked at the clock and it's after 12:00. Not going to dive in to any food now at this hour but my long fast is over. I really really want to find a good organic locally grown watermelon though and I haven't been able to. They are suppose to be ready so maybe in the next week. I am not breaking this fast on something that is not organic. No way. I have organic cantelopes so that's probably what I'll break it on. In fact, this was my problem last Sat. when I was going to break it so I could be on the same day as Aleesha. I live 2 hours from Whole Foods and there was nothing good organic at the grocery stores. I keep telling my garden to hurry up and grow! lol. But I wanted to say to Aleesha, I wasn't trying to go past your long fast date. I couldn't have done this without you and Jesus. My husband was suppose to make the trek to Whole Foods for me and he was willing to but his truck was broken down and he was working on it. And my truck is not legal and he got a ticket in it when he had to use it for work. So next time you do a long fast Lady Awen, you can beat my 215 day fast. It's not that much further then your 209 day one. I know it's not about the numbers so I probably don't need to even mention all that. We just fast cuz we love it, right?!

D'vorah I'll see you and whoever else is moving on to the 30 day challenge over there. We can transistion together! yea! I'm not leaving this thread for good though!

Beauty, what a lovely post! Thank you for your kind words and especially for your prayers. That means so much to me.

I won't be on the challenge here. I'm just not ready for 100% yet. I'm challenging elsewhere at 80%. I know I'll be 100 some of the time, but expecially with my current situations, there will be non-raw (albeit healthy, smile) choices I'll have to make. But I'll still be around here.

I'm about to break my fast and part of me wants to continue on. That's not practical or smart with this upcoming trip and the stresses I'll face, so, I'll be back another time. It's been a great fast. My skin feels wonderful, my joint pain has dropped to minimal (I had let bread and junk snacks sneak back in).

Blessings, Beauty, as you move into the challenge!

I haven't read everyone's posts... just skimmed. We are IN the condo!!! It's a little crazy... the grouting on the tiled floor isn't being done till tomorrow and we'll have to leave for 24 hours (back to the RV for one more night)... but then we are in for good. ahhhhh bliss.

I hope to get back to at least a one or three day fast later this week... if not this week the next. I soooooooo need to fast!!!

Did I tell you all about my yoga training course? I've been accepted at the Ashram in the Bahamas (Hatha Yoga) for March 2012... so... another dream is coming true for me. I'll finally be a yoga instructor!

Happy bliss-filled fasting to you all!!!

Marcia... thank you for your kind words. They mean a great deal to me (((hugs)))

beauty4ashes, Thank you so much for the nice words, too. I have been feeling so...awsome is the only word I can think of, that I am continuing with my juice fast. Have the week off work and feel no pressure to end it. I don't see a long, quite impressive run that you had and I remain in awe and admiration at your accomplishment.

So I am here sipping on coconut water with cinnamon. Forgot who posted that on the threads, but it sure is darn good.

My commitment back to 100% raw was done early Feb and with the juice fast I have released a total of 35 lbs. as of today; goal weight would be release of 6 more lbs. and put me at 150. The gift of this fast is not the weight loss but the wonderful connecting to myself again and the spiritual growth I have been blessed to be undergoing. It feels really good to be in my skin now.

D'vorah, I'm so glad you're joint pain has improved. That's wonderful! And I totally get the wanting to continue but knowing this is not the time to do it.
For what it's worth, I think you're making a good decision transitioning back, considering the stress you're dealing with. You need to be strong and take care of yourself. But I do understand the desire to keep going. I know the next time you fast, you'll even be healthier and hopefully it will be a better time for you. You accomplished so much this time around though and I know it will benefit you greatly. Blessings to you too as you go forth and make good choices for your new healthy lease on life. :heart

Lady Green Jeans, oh my gosh! You've lost 35 pounds. That's amazing and great and yeah....I'd feel good in my skin after losing that too. It sounds like you are real close to your goal. I'm glad you get to be off this week and can keep on going!!! Fast on, sister! ;) Also, thank you for your sweet words to me as well. You have encouraged me along the way here as well. :hug
And Lady Green, I'm still here fasting with you. You're not by yourself. :)
I"m still here cuz I just don't want to break it without a good watermelon to help me do it! Breaking it is more stressful to me then the actual fast!
I watched a good youtube last night of Phillip McClusky called Juice Feasting Secrets revealed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj_LB-UctPc) There's the link if you would like to see it. He talks about how he's doing a few months after his 100 day fast. And what the transition was like. It is SO helpful for whenever you're ready to transition back to raw.

Aleesha, wow. that's great that you got the job as a yoga instructor! So are you going to be moving to the Bahamas permanently? I can't even imagine!

Aleesha, Congratulations on the Yoga Instructor course. You are truly an awsome lady! And training in the beautiful Bahamas, too! Your path is soooo inspiring.

Thank you for the recipe. Not really liking the coconut water plain right now and I have several more to use up :) so it has been perfect.

beauty4ashes, So glad you are still here. The perfect watermelon will show up at the right time I think. Thank you for the link for Phillip McClusky's utube. He has a wonderful way of looking at things and sharing information. I've read that breaking the fast is probably more important than the fast itself (probably read that here, too)--lots of inspiration here. I have been pondering adding some water days during the week for deeper detox. Will have to see where the week leads me.

So glad to be walking this path with you all. Aleesha--so looking forward to you joining us.

Aleesha, that is so exciting! You are going to have a BALL there in the Bahamas while getting your instructors certification!:excited: Major congratulations are in order here. I think all us fasters need to come join you there in the beautiful white sand and shimmering blue waters. :throwhearts: aaahhh. Sounds heavenly.

Lady Green jeans, guess what? The perfect watermelon did show up! My husband went in to Kansas city Farmer's market and brought home 4 huge watermelons! I'm going to have watermelon coming out my ears! And he doesn't even eat watermelon. The kids and I have juiced half of one now.
He also brought home 2 humongous papayas, 8 really nice big mangos, and a pineapple. I told him I want to break this fast starting with watermelon but also thick juices. I use to make a mango/papaya pudding by just blending those two things together. So I'm going to juice them. Right now my stomach doesn't want to take in anything at all. Yet, I need to get off this fast! I can't keep doing this forever. So you're thinkin' of a water fast? I've never done one of those. I'm sure it will REALLY get you detoxing good. But do not stress if you need to make yourself juice. Just do what it takes to stay on your fast and get off gracefully. That is what my goal is too. You're right. Breaking the fast is every bit as important as the fast itself. We don't want to come unraveled here!!! :woohoo:
Have a beautiful day, fasters! :heart

I sooooooo want to fast but there's concern with my new flooring. It's not sealed yet and it's mostly grout so... I can't juice until it's sealed in 7 days.

So I'm thinking a short water fast is in order. Perhaps even just a few 1/2 days... I just need to - my body needs it.

So tomorrow may be a fasting day for me, otherwise I think Wed will be. We'll see where my head is in the morning. This move is so relaxed and yet so stress-filled at the same time LOL I know... sounds weird but... I'm really very relaxed within the stress. But... that doesn't mean the stress doesn't exist.

Regardless I don't know if I'm ready to commit to a fast at this time. I'll have to wait and see.

Morning all. Day 27 and feeling most grounded. My journey has been to grow spiritually and the side benefit of losing the false outer body. Feeling so blessed to be getting both on this juice fast. I have not been feeling any urgings to break this fast so may go on to 40 days. Taking it a day at a time. My life has also been blessed with a new job decision so I am pondering that while on my vacation week. Will be giving them my decision this coming Monday. Being thankful doesn't begin to express the joy and happiness in my heart.

beauty4ashes, So awsome the perfect watermelons showed up. :eat. You have a sweet husband. All that wonderful fruit! Please update us on your fast breaking. Your support here has been sooo helpful and your journey so inspiring. Will be incorporating mango and papaya in my fast breaking, too.
Two of my favorites.

Good to hear ya'll are doing well! Lady Green Jeans, so you got the job offer?! I'm so happy for you!. As you ponder whether to take it or not, I pray you get that clear direction of whether to step out and take that path. I hope it is a good change in your life though with better pay and benefits. It can be so hard to make big decisions like this.

You said, "Being thankful doesn't begin to express the joy and happiness in my heart.". I will second that with a resounding yes, I feel that the same way! Life is just so much better when you're healthier and not full of toxins. I am in this for the spritual growth too and want to continue that all thru life. I definitely am enjoying the body getting in to a healthier state.

Aleesha, I get what you're saying about being relaxed in spite of the stress. I'm glad whatever is stressing you, it's managable and not overcoming you. Half a day is better then not fasting at all and I LOVE how you are taking whatever you can get as you wait for that floor to get sealed. I need to do more of that rather then be so all or nothing. Keep blissing...you have so much to look forward to! Besides, you just did a long 50 day fast and I know you're body is thanking you. Have a peace filled night and another good day tommorow. And don't worry, you're juicer will be there ready for you to make the precious in a short while.

Oh,....and just to update ya'll on my fast. I'm a juicing fiend right now. My husband had brought home 2 honeydews and 2 cantelopes the night before all the other stuff. I'm just trying to go thru it so it doesn't go to waste! Haven't juiced the mangos or papaya's yet. I tried breaking my fast the other day but I just couldn't do it. It's hard to break something that has brought you so much freedom. I also read on the juice feasting website what they recommend for breaking a long fast. I am going to get some prunes without the sulfites. It's going to be Fri. before my husband can get out there. For now, I'm still fasting but I don't want to go past next Sunday, if I even go that long.
Ya'll have a great day tommorow! :kisses:

Hello. I've been raw for 4 months now, and I started my juice fast five days ago. I'm 23. I am at my optimal weight before the fast, I exercise a lot, and I eat only raw food with plenty of smoothies (I think I eat too much raw). Physically, I feel healthy, I can breathe, I haven't been sick in about 5 months.

Fast:

Mornings are refreshing, but I feel slightly exhausted. My tongue has been dry since day 3. I drink about 4 cups of juice in the morning, 5 cups from 5:30 to 7:45, then I urinate until I go to sleep.

I am fasting to further my clarity of mind, gain motivation, and find creativity. I have not found much in the way of people doing a juice fast who are in great health and also on a raw food diet.

Most people seem to be fasting to lose weight and come out of illnesses. I am planning to keep my fast for as long as it takes, but could anyone give me some insight as to when the mind and body might become more motivated and seeking creative pursuits? That may be vague, but any encouragement would be a help. Thanks so much. Again, I am on day 5 right now.

Welcome blotsm, From what I've read, each person's fast will bring about different results--based on age as in how many years of your previous diet and if sad or raw, medical history, etc. Check out the information page under fasting as there is a LOT of great info.

beauty4ashes, Thank you for your kind words. This fast has been so amazing. I feel so blessed with the job offers and will continue praying for guidance on the right choice. Am following my body's lead and will continue on the fast. The growth and depth in my spirtual path has been amazing.

So glad to hear of your continued fast. So amazing to have gone such a long distance. I remain in awe and admiration.

Hope you are all having a great raw day!

I've never done anything like this before. I recently saw the film "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" and thought I'd give it a try. In the film, the guy did it for 60 days. I'm going to start for one and if that works, I'll try two. I hate setting myself up for failure by setting goals. I hope it works. 10 hours left and I'll be done with day one. Let's see how it goes.

Hi phrutevegan!

I happened to be lurking on this thread and saw your post. Just a few days ago, I, too, saw the documentary and was inspired to juice fast. I'm on Day 3. I've found that I'm not having cravings and the mental battle of wanting foods but not wanting to give in to what I want is subsiding.

Your post inspired me to create an account and start participating on this thread. I hope you stick around and let everyone know how you're doing.

To everyone else, hello! It's been a pleasure reading your posts and I hope to get to know you as time goes on.

Greetings, fasting folk! Nice to see some new posters here!

I'm going to start a longish juice fast tomorrow. Perhaps 30 days? 21? Who knows, I'll see how it goes.

I've got tons of lettuce, kale, zucchini, and summer squash in the garden to supplement what I buy from (much more successful) organic farmers in the area. Maybe I'll go completely local since it's summer and the local options are so enticing. That would mean no pineappple though. Hmmm.

Will be wonderful to have support from everyone here.:throwhearts:

Hi everyone. Back again for my July fast. I think my last one was in May. :) I did 6 days that time. Going for at least 15 days this time. I am on day four right now and going strong. Starting to have some minor detox symptoms finally (stuffy nose, scratchy throat, fatigue) but the first few days were really easy. Weird dreams as usual. Feeling very clear and centered. I've been dry skin brushing every day and getting a lot of rest. I think I will try a yoga nidra meditation later.

Hope everyone is well!

hey Presence...

I did about 40 hours and my sugar was so out of whack it was giving me a panic attack, so I broke it. I will continue to be raw, though. Lost 3 lbs in that 40 hours. damn!

Welcome Prescence, it sounds like you are ready for new changes. Just take it a day at a time and they will add up to a joyful new body.

I have never heard of that documentary before, it looks very inspiring! Phrutvegan, sorry about your panic attack. I hope your blood sugar is in a good range now and your feeling better. That would be scary. Congrats on the 40 hours and weight loss though. The hardest part of this is starting so you are over that hurdle. Keep going on raw!
Blotsm, wow, your doing great too! It sounds like you're locked in to a healthy raw lifestyle now. I wish I could help you out on the mind/body creative pursuits question.
Glad to see Emiliana and climbing again too. Climbing...day four is when I have just about reached to the fasting zone. You're doing great! And Emiliana, all that produce is going to do your body so much good. All your cells will be drinking in that liquid heaven. Yum.

Lady Green Jeans, it's been fun fasting with you. :hug Thank you for all your kind words too. Would love to know you irl and go to raw meet ups together. Have you been able to decide on the job offer yet?

eta: I always forget to update myself! I have so many melons to use up, I'm juicing as fast as I can. I've been juicing lots of wild lambsquarters that have been growing all over our property and even in my garden! Which is good since the rainbow chards not ready yet.

As your body gets used to fasting (first days) blood sugar weirdness is normal. Just drink some water or juice and it'll be fine. (((hugs)))

I'm ready to fast but my flooring isn't yet... so this week sometime... I'LL BE BACK!!!

Then when you're winding down you can hand it back to me! :juicy: Hopefully Good Cat will be in here with ya soon too. mmm yes... second breakfast!

I'll be water fasting for most of today I think. Seems there was something hidden in something my body took in and I wasn't very comfy all night. I find that water fasting for at least half a day afterwards helps tremendously.

I want to fast for a nice long time... just not sure what my body wants quite yet. We'll see. Don't wanna force anything but I'm open to the flow that's for sure!

Usually I stick around the fasting thread regardless of whether I'm fasting or not. This move has made me so busy I can't keep up at the moment... but that'll change as well... once I get all settled in on this end.

love and light,
Lady Awen

You are always so encouraging to everyone on these boards! You are a special person and I know that G-d has wonderful things for you!

I'm still in Oklahoma but I'll be back by next weekend. Once we get back and get settled, I will be doing a 10-14 day feast and then follow that with a high alkaline/raw diet for about 7 weeks. I need to get some balance in this body :woohoo:

So the precious calls me and I will have the precious...yes....yes... we must haves it...

beauty4ashes, How long has your fast been now? Lucky you with the lambs quarters--every time I go to buy them at the farmers' mkt, the organic seller is sold out. How do they taste? Going to raw potlucks or meetings would be awsome. I know there are several events in the Southern California Inland Empire area, but haven't ventured yet. What area are you in?

Thank you for asking about the job decision. I have been looking over my interview notes and praying a lot during this past week since I've been on vacation. Not sure until tomorrow if the last interview I had will be extending me an offer or not. Right now I am leaning toward the first interview as it is a good fit and would be supporting a great team. I feel so blessed for the chance to move into an area that would offer a better fit.

Day 31 today. Cannot believe I am here and doing so well and connecting on so many levels. This has been such a gift. I have pondered and decided to go to 40 days. My desire going into this juice fast was to grow and deepen spiritually and I have. I will be searching for my perfect mango and papaya to break the fast.

Sorry to go on--lots to say today in gratitude.

Hope you are all doing well with your fasts.

Good Cat! So happy you popped in! Love seeing your beautiful face in here.
And thanks for encouraging me too! That was so sweet of you to say those things. You and Aleesha bring such a vibrancy to the fasting thread. It's just not the same without ya'll. I like your upcoming plan for feasting and then 7 weeks high raw. You are going to be bursting with energy come this fall and so happy you did it!

Aleesha, I wasn't comfy last night either. Actually early this morning (past midnight) is when I made my last drink, my vegetable juice/sprout drink. I didn't have any red, yellow or orange peppers so I threw something in that made it kind of funky tasting. I knew it would and I've been juicing these for the kids, not me. Should have left it out because it made my juice so thick and made me feel pretty uncomfy. It was papaya. I wouldn't have had it a few days ago(knowing it's thick) but I figured, this is my last day, need to start getting my digestive system to wake up. Oh my gosh. This experience tells me I need to take it very slowly.

I know this move has had you very busy Aleesha, and you've put in a lot of hard work...but it sounds like things are settling down and soon you'll be back in your fasting groove. Together with Good Cat. The commoraderie and your determination is going to put you both back in the fasting happy zone.:juicy: Yes, yes, I hears the precious calling you both!

Well, this is my last day! I made it to 225 days and I can say it's a wonderful feeling. I still have lots of work to do in many other areas, but at least I have a healthier and stronger body to accomplish those things. I've had lots of healing take place so far.

I started out Nov. 28th weighing a hundred and 2 much. I wasn't sure if this time of trying would stick so I didn't even weigh. Actually I haven't been on the scales myself in years. In the past, I only let my husband weigh me every once in awhile when I'd have a little triumph but then I'd fail. I didn't look at the scales because it would have discouraged me to much. So, finally around Jan. 20? I got him to weigh me. He said I weighed 170. So, I'm estimating I could have weighed around 195 at the beginning. Just weighed at the beginning of this paragraph and was 104.5! Last Mon. 4th of July I was 107 which was the upper limit of my goal weight. I'd like to keep it around there. Honestly, I look a little on the thin side now. And need to build up a little muscle tissue. But I've always had thin arms when I've been at a decent weight. I remember my good friend in high school telling me my arms looked like sticks. But, I'd rather be striving to put on muscle then struggle with all that weight again for SO SO LONG!

If anyone thinks they can't do this. They can. You CAN do it! Just drink lots of juice, lots of water and know that you can keep on going and finish what you set off to do! And stick around here for support. I wish you all the best.

Lady Green Jeans, update us when you can!

Love you guys!:heart

Congrats! :)

Day 6 here. Had a nice day yesterday and an interesting experience. I did a deep, relaxing partner yoga session with my boyfriend. We had just meditated for a few minutes in our final pose and then were sitting up and talking and out of nowhere I had the most intense "hot flash" (not sure what else to call it ever).... it was a very comfortable 70 degrees in our house with a nice breeze coming in the windows and I am normally an "always cold" sort of person (I'm super skinny) so this surging, burning, intense heat pouring through my body was probably one of the weirdest things I ever felt. It lasted maybe ten minutes and was very overwhelming but then it vanished and I was cool and comfortable again. My boyfriend said I unleashed some prana. :)

Weirdly enough I awoke from a strange dream around 4am last night in the same state. Got up, burning hot, went to the bathroom, and by the time I'd returned, the heat was gone.

Kundalini! :)

The best part, no intense food cravings yet! WOOOWWWW! That really means I must have balanced some of my old food addictions because every fast I'm always having hardcore cravings for the weirdest stuff.

Detox symptoms are mild. I had some really bad back pain in an area that I injured back in 2002 (doesn't normally cause me pain anymore). It was intense, as if I'd just injured it. So strange. My boyfriend massaged it for awhile and it seemed to get better, but I still feel it a little bit today. Yoga helps too.

Have a happy fasted day everyone. :)

Immersed in day one and already have hit a snag. I don't have a juicer, but after researching I figured that I could use a blender and strain the mixture to get the juice. I tried it this morning and it did not go well, big mess. I should have done a trial run.

Anyhow, I decided that maybe the best thing for me right now is to subsist on green smoothies, which I can make with the blender. So that's where I'm at. I'm on my second green smoothie of the day and feeling good so far.

I've made mega-messes straining juice but it can work really well. I recommend using a big, big bowl and then transferring the juice to whatever you want to store it in.

I'm coming to the end of day 2. It was a pretty stressful day and I was briefly tempted to stop--but got passed it. Hurray!

Good luck all!

Have been thinking about it,Reading about it,talking about it an then writing about it...Well My brother had me Watch Fat,Sick, and nearly dead......

Long story short we went to our state capitols farmers Market an loaded up....Me & the brother are on day 2 of our juice feast...an thats not all my Fiance began 100% Raw(2 days in as well).....Fruits & Veggies are foreign to his body...So I wanted him to go 100% Raw for a week, before he joined us...So his Juice Feast will begin this Saturday.....Amazing!!!

The fiance was kinda due for his Raw Jorney anyhow(made a bet if I lost 100lbs,he'd go raw for 30 days) lol...but the juicing in his case was optional.

Looking at a ten day feast and then I will see how im feeling,if i want to go further. I feel okay actually right now, want to chew somthing of course but everyone says that goes away..I have faith it will. Not doin a whole lot of bowl movements and when I do its diarehia...is this normal?

Also on a juice feast is anything fair game (thats safe to juice).Like I juiced watermelon an lemon today. Its not green ,but the majority of my juice has been.I got a flat of tomatoes ,a 50lb bag of carrots, case of kale, also some cucumbers ,celery, apples, pears, ginger, parsley, garlic,an jalapenos.Say I go 30 days would this be a good enough variety? Also saw a video of a girl on a JF an she was drinking coconut water..okay yes it is juice ,might sound like a stupid question but is it okay on a JF?

......Ive drank close to 5 quarts of juice today...is that enough or too much.I want to keep my hypoglycemia in check,so I try to drink one every 3 hours

So excited I finally did it,you know how you build something up in your head...I had a for real fear of juicing an not eating .Just wasnt sure of the low blood sugar thingy. So far feel lil weak an my blood pressure is crazy low,but from what Ive read thats normal. Can def do this :)
Gratz to everyone begining, continuing and the veterans...and glad to be Finally joining ya

Hey. New here. I'm on my 4th day of a jucie fast. I have a crappy juicer, so it has mostly been fruit juice. I can't get my greens to juice at all. :( So I do one of tomato, celery and cucumber mixed with super greens, otherwise just amazingly fresh, delicious fruit juice.

I'm hoping for 10 days, then 100% raw after that. I can't get over the hunger. I'm sure it will come. But I'm hungry all the time. I work all day and bartend several nights a week, so I'm pretty tired too. But I feel awesome and I'm losing weight.

I've been reading this thread for a couple weeks trying to gear up for the fast. I've enjoyed reading about your longer fasts and also water and MC fasts. But tons of juice seems to be what I need right now! Hopefully I can do a longer fast in a few months.

I had a great EFT session and meditation session after, which helped SO much. I've been water fasting today. Very tired and just having a nice rest. Didn't get any work done but that's okay. :) I'm off to relax for the rest of the evening, I will probably go back on juices tomorrow.

I choose to manifest peace and believe that we can recover from anything life throws at us.

Today is the first day of my very first juice fast and I love it already! :)

I did a pineapple, apple, peach and celery juice for breakfast. I really enjoyed it! It was sweet and with a hint of celery (which is not my favorite) but it turned out to be surprisingly yummy!
For lunch, I learned a very valuable mixing lesson....I made a juice with tomato, carrot, kale, broccoli, celery and ....cucumber! bleh....it was like cucumber flavored grass! :( I forced it down. But juice and learn, right?! haha...
I just finished my third juice of the day. It was tomato, carrot, apple and orange. Very good! :)

I felt a little bit hungry this morning right before lunch...but I met up with my vegan friend for lunch to chat about my motivations for this fast. It made me feel really good to see her and talk to someone about what I'm doing.

I'm curious about the different kinds of juices that I can make for the remainder of my fast. My goal is to do at least 7 days.
I was trying to find some recipes that incorporate more greens because I'm afraid that if I allow myself, I'll drink a majority of fruity sweet juices....
Any suggestions for good veggie-heavy juices?

I'm super excited about this fast and it feels good to talk about it, so if you're reading this...thanks! :)

nuova, read the stickie in this section... it has juice suggestions. but on the other note... nothing wrong with consuming sweeter fruit juices. it's easy to add a little spinach or kale to a sweet juice (or spirulina) and bam - your juice is on the green side!!!

also... try to limit the ingredients in your juice. you'll find (as a novice juicer) that you'll make better blends that way. 3 items per juice. ;)

and don't forget... ginger and garlic are your friends!

welcome!

Day 10 here... struggling a bit. :(

I wanted to go 14 days, but I'm just losing so much weight. I want the detoxification effects of a longer fast but I'm whittling away down to practically nothing... I probably weigh less than 100 pounds right now (I'm 5'7)and am starting to look pretty anorexic... ribs sticking out, shoulders bony, stomach sucked in.... I was maybe only 110 pounds to begin with and I have an extremely fast metabolism. I know it'll come back and everything when I begin eating but it still kinda sucks. Becuse it's hard for me to keep weight on even when I eat a lot.

Since last night I've been extremely cold too. I'm all bundled up like it's winter lol.

I also want to eat, so bad. I didn't, at all, in the beginning. I'm not sure what changed, other than it's getting pretty close to my period and I'm normally starving during that time. Not sure if I should break it early or what. Either way it's the longest fast I have ever done in my life! So I'm proud of myself. I'd like to keep going but I'm starting to have those doubts in my head.....

Other then that Im trying to read up on stuff related when time permits, and keep a positive outlook. After reading a very interesting article Im def going for 30 days. I just wanna do this once, as a major cleanse and then 3 days out of each month there after..The juice is getting old but is doable.I mean its a mind-set anyhow either you are or your arn't right...

Energy is high though an im soooo not doing good with sittting around even after work . My mouth feels nasty most of the time, and Ive been kinda out of breath along with a few other problems....So BRING IT ON Mc-toxin nasties(Im ready) :) !!!!

Thanks Aleesha. I decided it was right for me to begin breaking my fast today. Key word, begin. I ate my first solid but I will continue to juice throughout today and then add a little more tomorrow, and continue to juice, and keep going slowly back to my normal raw diet over the next 3-4 days. This was the longest I've ever fasted and I'm incredibly proud. :) I feel I worked out a lot on this fast, physically *toxins*, spiritually *realigned myself with my relationship to Jesus, God and mother earth* and mentally *working through that traumatic experience that happened mid-fast with EFT and meditation*. It was just such an incredible, moving, emotional and wonderful experience, my best yet. I amazed myself and amazed those around me. My boyfriend told me he's never been so inspired by anyone, and the fact that I could have been hiking up mountains on day 8 of a fast really blew his mind.

He's venturing further and further into the raw diet and vegetarianism *a few months ago he decided to give up all dairy* and he says I am his guru, lol. What a wonderful gift to be able to help him learn as I learn myself.

I woke up vibrating with love and happiness today and it just felt like a good time to end this round. :) I have so much love for all of you, and wish you beautiful fasting times. I will likely do another fast in early fall so I will be back then and probably a little bit here and there in between.

Blessings and light.

Hi all. Day 38 today. Still feeling amazingly well and plan to start breaking my juice fast on Wednesday, which will give me 40 full days. Cannot believe this has been so long and brought such clarity and balance--what wonderful gifts. There is also less of me which is nice, too.

Reading a lot of the older threads and they have so kept me inspired. So much wisdom and support here.

Okay, so, I've been following the monthly fasting threads and have finally decided to take the plunge. Tomorrow I begin my first juice fast!!!!! Got lots of good stuff in the fridge to start with - kale, parsley, spinach, watermelon, pineapple, pink lady apples, ginger.

Have chard and collards growing in the garden so I'm in pretty good shape first thing in the morning till I can get to the store and get resupplied.

I also have lots of dandelions growing in the garden. The bees love the flowers and the sparrows love the seeds. I have juiced the greens before but not sure if I'm on the right track.

Are dandelion greens more nutritional or perhaps less bitter if they're picked before the plant flowers or does it matter. Most of them have flowered by now and the greens are huge.

Wanted to give a big thanks to everyone that posts here. It has been truly inspirational to read your stories. And Aleesha - you are amazing. Hope I can attain the level of bliss that you talk about. You rawk!

Thanks ya'll. See you tomorrow.

dandelions - you want the very small new leaves... the rest are super bitter. even the small are bitter but some people love them. (i'm not one of those people LOL)

so glad to see some of you are reading the old fasting threads. they are so inspirational. i know i read them myself. really helps me keep on track and reminds me of things i've forgotten.

today is day one for me. i had a severe allergic reaction to something yesterday. not sure what came in contact with my food but i just woke up from 16 hours of sleep. almost needed to go to the hospital. so i'm looking forward to fasting and allowing my body some time to heal. i so need it.

so... here's my commitment:

I will not consume solids while I am choosing to fast. I either fast or eat - there is no middle ground.
I will not allow my thoughts to focus on eating solids. That is counterproductive to the state of mind I choose to be in. I will instead focus on honouring my body, my life and my choice to consume pulpless raw live juice at this time.
I am fasting for health.
I am fasting because my body appreciates the sacrifices I make for it and the high level of nutrition I provide it while fasting from solids.
I am fasting for mental clarity.
I am fasting to connect deeper with my spirituality, my surroundings and my life.
I choose to be here to mentor and share my journey with others in the hope that they will do the same and I will get the support and inspiration which assists me so greatly when I fast.
I - Lady Light of Awen - walk this path, the path many have walked before me - with pride and in a mindful way. Focusing only on this moment and leaving the other moments to their time. This is the only moment that counts. I will assist this moment to be peace-filled, honoured and cherished as it deserves to be.

I will not break this fast on a hard day.
I will not break this fast while detoxing.
I will not break this fast today or tomorrow - I can, however break it on the third day if I choose.
I will not let myself down by eating on a whim. My actions will be mindful and considered.

I choose to meditate, practice Reiki and have plenty of long walks and warm (not hot) baths. I will skin brush, and - if needed - assist my detox with detox baths. Otherwise I will allow my body to do what it knows how to do. I will not question it, I will not doubt it. I trust my body 100% to do what it knows needs to be done. I will step out of the way and allow it do just that.

Lady Green Jeans just posted this in the fav juice thread (stickie)... I'm going to make it for dinner tonight.

-One pineapple, topped and bottomed and skin removed
-1 to 2 english cucumbers (Costco pineapples are BIG so usually use 2)
-1 jalapeno (remove seeds and ribs if you don't like it spicy) or use cayenne instead, to taste.
-nice size handful of cilantro. Around 10 average stems or more.
-piece of onion or shallot (about the size of a lemon wedge) gives it a little presence.
-Lime juice (I usually just squeeze it in after juicing the above, to taste. Or you can juice it too if you like.)

(I pretty much took the recipe from Raw Food Real World's pineapple gazpacho and left out the nuts and oil and just juiced the ingredients as it is one of my favorite recipes).

how about making your own? it's always important for me to make a commitment when I fast. This way I don't forget why I'm doing this.

Fasting isn't easy. it's a commitment. It's a challenge. So when things get hard (and they will) you need to be ready for it.

I never learn..should know my thoughts jump around alot.I had wanted to do 30 days.Going to stop at 10 now, that is what I had initially was shooting for,and for my very first fast I think thats pretty darn good!!!

I diddnt detox too much small things here and there, along with energy. But there is diffrences I cant really spell out at this time.Hopefully entering back in the raw world will open my eyes to some of it.For sure its a good way to boost my health more an I will be back.
Actually makes sense right now with fiance doing the 30day raw thing for me,Ive been uncooking for him off an on,so that he will appreciate and adapt more, leaving him wanting more fresh foods at end of his journey, but while your fasting you really dont care to see food at all.Im so proud of him an surprised he is doing it.
Thought it over hard and just feel now that Ive done my 10 day fast.I should start helping him with more choices, poor guy when I dont give him a suggestion he just sucks down a smoothie cuz he has no clue what to make.My brother who helped me to make this fast choice, began the same day as me.After his 10days,he is now considering raw food as well.I want to be able to have him an his wife over an help with suggestions an meals.

Actually the timing and everything is PERFECT and I couldnt have asked for more.I learned alot for sure,it is a bit pricy to juice but I learned if you ask the right questions at farmer markets you can get boxes of goodies for deep discounts :D

Also I lost 2 days somehow somewhere lol Im actually on day 9 today,How I missed two days is beyond me ,hope I had fun :)

The years that I was on those presciption pills did a job on my brain.I will never regain my memory or quick thinking skillz. For this I have been humbled,Blessed and saved. This fast was just another grace along the path.

Actually bought a pineapple to juice,ty for the recipe I will try that tomorrow.
Probbly will make it back again long after my fast is over so Take care everyone and enjoy the ride :)

I can't sleep. It's too hot and too cold. Hubby has the a/c on in the bedroom. Yuck. And, it's sticky in the rest of the house. Mmmm. What to do. First day of fasting was a breeze. It always amazes me how my body will just go into fasting mode with no problems. It just knows. Bought a huge watermellon that will probably last me a few days last night. Going to juice a few blueberries with it and see how that tastes. For sure it will be pretty. I am wishing for a nice purpley color. :excited:

Alrighty then...I've been reading through the fasting threads for the last few weeks and am ready to go. This is my first juice fast and I know I still have a lot to learn but am excited for that and looking forward both to the journey and for being present in each day and what it brings. I've been adding more juices to a mostly raw diet lately and was planning on staying raw and then juicing but just can't wait to dive headlong into cool, nourishing juice.

My goal is 30 days. I'm starting with a larger abundance of fruit and gradually adding in more greens as I get used to the stronger taste. Will be trying lots of the suggestions you guys make and learning from what works for you and how my body reacts. I have several things I'd like to heal... back issues, mild depression, pain and excessive weight.

Welcome Lady Allura. Add your name in your sig line so we can all remember and use it. It's absolutely beautiful!

I suggest you add a tiny bit of greens to your fruit juices. It's like a green smoothie, you don't notice the taste. One leaf of kale... a small handful of spinach... easy peasy stuff.

I woke up and got into my water right away. Today will be a high water day for me since I had to be in the car all day yesterday so high water wasn't possible. So my first litre is in me and I'll continue to drink a 1/2 litre every time I pee until noon - perhaps even a bit later. We'll see how I'm feeling. I want to have the water assist me to get into this fast in a deep way quickly - which I find it does. Water is so wonderful. mmmm I love it!

Yesterday was pretty much a breeze. I have huge support here for fasting. My new partner met me while I was fasting and has been with me while I was eating and noticed the change in my energy yesterday right away. He said the clarity and peace that was emmanating from me was beautiful. So I know even moreso that this is the right time to be doing this.

Not sure how long I'll go but he wants to do a three day GS feast so I'll fast till he's done that (Th-Sat). I would love to go for a nice long time (you know me I love those long fasts) but I'm not pushing myself to do anything... just going with the flow of the moment and allowing. Nothing more, nothing less.

I also know that if I'm going to do a fast longer than 10 days I need to set a goal. Otherwise it's too easy for me to say "Okay I'm done". I don't push through those hard times when I don't have a goal. So if I continue past Sat. I'll have found the 'number' that I want to fast until. Meditation always brings me great clarity... so I'll be spending some time sitting and discovering my path.

Ahhhh it's good to be back!

Thank you both for the welcome...day one going fine. Aleesha I will start adding some greens to the fruit juices tomorrow.

Plan for the day..

carrot/orange..this was great.

apple/red grape/ginger/spinach

kale/celery/apple/lemon

Will have roughly three qts over the day...have some more reading to do to educate myself about suggested amounts, combinations, etc...

I've read in several places now that fasting for weight loss is not optimum. I am doing this for several reasons, but loosing weight is definitely one of them.
I think veggie juices would be better for that since they are lower calorie but I also need to be able to stay with it for the long haul.......I am hoping the fruit juices will still be okay...I guess my reasoning is that, especially at first, I need to just do what I can to stay on it and go from there.

I really appreciate the support and love here...thank you all~

Welcome Lady Allura,

Wow, seems like alot of us are starting our juice feasts around the same time. Great for ideas and support.

Day two here. Had watermelon and lime this morning. Think I like the cantaloupe and lime better.....

Right now:
Large Pink Lady apple
4 stalks of celery (LOVE celery!)
one romaine heart
4-5 kale leaves
chocolate mint
half a bag of cranberries (which my Breville doesn't do very well on:mad:)
handful of black grapes.

Very tasty. Made about 16oz. Wish it would've been more.....

Working tonight so will drink lots of water for the rest of the day.

Bought lots of tomatoes this morning. Can't wait to try Aleesha's Tomato Juice. Got some jalapenos and garlic and sweet onion.......:woohoo:!

Ciao for now!

Hello, Fasters!! I've been reading through a few of these threads and would love to join you on your juice fast journeys!!

Today is day 4 for me and I'm love love loving it!!!! I completed two water fasts earlier this year, one for 12 days and one for 9 days. They were great, but terribly difficult. The hunger NEVER subsided and I pretty much white-knuckled my way through them. I also did a couple of weeks on Atkins shakes, but those get old pretty quickly.

I've been struggling with food lately something fierce. Even resorted to going back on phentermine to help control my appetite (been taking those off and on for many years). I took the pills the first two days of my fast. Between the juice and pills my energy was pretty off the charts! I really want to "feel" what these juices are doing for me, so I stopped taking them yesterday. So far, so good. I was worried the fasting was so easy because of those, but I'm doing just fine without them! :woohoo:

I chose my name because that's my intention for this fast. To take it slowly. I have no goal as far as number of days are concerned because the last thing I want to do is countdown until the day I can eat again. I'm thoroughly enjoying what I'm doing and have no desire to stop. This felt amazingly "right" from my first sip of juice and I would love to make it a lifestyle, not a temporary fix. I'm sure the desire to eat will return eventually, but I'm sure enjoying it's departure!

I'm being purely spontaneous with this fast. I've stocked the house with produce and just drinking what sounds good. I'm making no rules for myself. Just drinking as much, or as little juice as I want. Made from whatever I want.

The fruit juices have been my favorite. Watermelon/pineapple this morning. Drinking carrot/celery/apple/lemon/ginger right now. That concoction caught my palate off guard after the really sweet juice, but after a few sips the sweetness of the veggies came through and I was quite satisfied with it.

I'm down 9.2 lbs so far in three days! :woohoo: all water weight, but it feels really nice to not be so bloated!! Haven't had a bm yet...that's kind of a bummer, but I'm going to give it a couple more days then drink some senna tea if I have to. Trying to put that off if I can.

On a side note: I've seen there are several homeschoolers here. I've been homeschooling my 13 yo son since he was 7. :)

Hey everyone, I'm on day two of a 90 day feast. I have a couple questions:

My girlfriend and I will be traveling to Seattle for five days to visit her family (there's no way to continue to juice while there). Basically, we'll be fasting for 9 days, then a five day break while there, then back to fasting for 80 days or so. Do any of you have any recommendations about this short time off? Obviously, we'll be eating lots of raw veggies, but I imagine we'll indulge in some great cooked food as well as my girlfriend's mom is a great chef. Is a five day break okay or will we be interrupting a necessary cycle?

Also, we bought an Omega VRT 350HD. It's wonderful so far, but I'm concerned with the amount of pulp in the juice. I've read some feasters say to have absolutely no pulp. Should I strain the extra pulp, or is a little okay as far as fasting is concerned?

Thank you.

-Dan

CathyA.
07-19-2011, 06:11 PM
amplee--If you are concerned about the pulp then strain, if not then do not bother. I don't get a lot of pulp in my juice though. Just a but of stuff on the top. Sometimes I just mix it in and sometimes I spoon it off. As far as the break from fasting goes, that is your call. I would try to make the majority of your food raw. You may feel as though you don't want the cooked foods. Also...can you bring your juicer and try to get in more juice than foods?

Lady Judea--I think that making no rules for yourself is a very smart "rule". It gives you more opportunity to enjoy this fast.

Lady Judea be sure to add your name into your sig line so we can all remember it. It's lovely!!!

Welcome everyone...

Dan, a five day break is a complete break. Please remember you'll need to break your fast so perhaps do that a few days before you leave? It sounds like it's going to be a food-fest while you are there so when you begin fasting again... it'll be a brand new fast. One fast doesn't carry over to the next when there's days of food involved.

I had a little bit of a tough day today. I didn't get a chance to make juice today as I was so busy with renovations and inspections. I did walk to the juice bar and get some juice and a double shot of wheatgrass. Big mistake. Put me into detox and it's not what I needed today. A short warm bath made all the difference though. Also a few lovely walks outside. It's not warm but it's not freezing here at the moment... so this is good. We really haven't had any summer yet this year. :(

I'm sipping on my leftover juice from last night's dinner. It's not very good but I'll consume it regardless... my body can use the boost.

Lady Aredhel... I soooooo love fasting with you. (((hugs)))

Oh and I did a lot of water today... very pleased about that!!!

Thank you, ladies! :heart

Having a few more symptoms this evening. Feeling a bit sick...I'm thinking those nasty diet pills are leaving my system.

On a positive note... fasting is making me very cold, which is bound to reduce my energy bill. Gives me more $$$ to buy veggies! :woot:

I was getting SUPER hot at night while on SAD. It's nice to not have the AC running 24/7.

I'm ready for day2...I was so tired last night but took a very long time to fall asleep. Woke up at 5, an hour earlier than usual. Had an exciting morning with my husband rescuing two baby lizards that got in the house somehow, before the cats got them. Only an inch long...poor babies. But they are out in the garden now and on their way~

I may be crazy but I was lying in bed this morning and I swear I can breath deeper. Is that possible so soon? AND...I am down 6 lbs....that after three days of all raw, lots of juice and yesterday all juice...I'll take it.

Somehow I feel liberated. Not having to make food choices seems so much easier in a way and I am psyched to be giving my body a healing spell. I hope everyone has a blessed day~

GlimR: Sounds like you're already getting some great benefits! I'm looking forward to comparing notes with you!! :)

Ahhhhhhh....it's another beautiful morning here on Biscayne Bay!! I moved down here to Miami Beach from Orlando almost a year ago, and not one day has gone by where I haven't stopped to appreciate its beauty. I live in a high rise on Biscayne Bay with a view of the ocean as well....heaven.

Today is day 5! I feel odd counting the days as it does not feel like I'm fasting. I'm still having so much fun exploring the different concoctions I can make and have a feeling that I've only scratched the surface. I'm sure it will get monotonous at some point, but I'm hoping that point is very far off.

Had a headache last night, but it's gone now. I'm sipping on a mix of green grapes and green apples. It's a beautiful color and wonderfully tart. I've found the really sweet stuff very easy to chug . I burned through my watermelon/pineapple concoction pretty quickly.

Everyone have a glorious day...that's an order!! ;)

oh...btw....had a bm last night ( I know you all love the poop talk lol). It was nothing to write home about, and fairly difficult to pass, but at least it's something, right? haha I'm going to give it a couple of more days before I try the tea. I'm already dehydrated and don't want to add to that if I can help it.

Your home sounds beautiful. I'm at the beach outside Jacksonville, about a ten-15 minute walk. I injured my back a number of years ago and since then haven't gone much. I used to walk about 25 miles a week, to the beach always and look forward to being able to do that again.

Have spent some time since starting thinking about my bowel function. My body is usually like clockwork and I always go about 5 minutes after waking up and three more times through the day..hopefully not too much info....I like to go. So...have been hoping I won't get constipated. I did go this morning, less and more compact. I guess we'll see...would prefer not to have to choke down psyllium.

Made a green juice this morning with kale, cucumber, celery, apple and lemon.
Also made some carrot, orange, spinach & ginger for later........following Aleesha's suggestion to add greens in.

Breathing deeper so quick is wonderful... (for whoever asked about it). Often I feel some lovely effects of my fasting quickly... such a treat.

As for bms. Ladies... you are fasting. You will have fewer bms. You have no food coming in! So relax... your body knows what it's doing. Trust it!

I'm off to do more renovations... the kitchen floor is FINALLY getting sealed this morning. *whew* Now I'll be able to juice with peace of mind. So worried about staining that floor.

Wow, lots of great activity on the thread. Yesteday I reached my goal of 40 days. I had juice this a.m. and am enjoying cut up cantaloupe for my lunch. I did so well on the juice fast and feel amazing but almost sad it is ending. I will continue transitioning slowly back to a solid raw vegan diet. The support here was so wonderful.

Wishing you all a juicy journey. Hope to fast again with you soon.

WHO'S DRINKING THEIR WATER EVERY MORNING? DON'T FORGET YOUR WATER!!! :juicy:

Me! Me! Me! Waving my hand.....warm water with lemon first thing in the morning.

Got a question. I have a Breville but it doesn't seem to work on berries.....used a whole pint of raspberries this morning and got maybe a half teaspoon full of juice. On low speed, like the book says......same thing with my cranberries.

What is the secret? A better blender?

WHO'S DRINKING THEIR WATER EVERY MORNING?

*sheepishly stares at desk in hopes of not being called upon to answer the question*

I'm actually a huge water drinker, but for some reason it's been very hard to drink lately. I guess I'm getting all the hydration I need from the juice? I'll try to work on the water consumption ;).

Good job Lady Green Jeans! Woot woo for you.
Water is something I can't get enough of. So YES! YES! YES! on that question.
GlimR--hang in there. There are usually some not so great days while fasting. Make sure that you are getting enough water. Detoxing is very taxing on the body and it needs its water more than ever at this time.
Cynthia--try putting them in a leaf of romaine or lettuce and wrapping it up before you juice. I seem to get more juice out of my berries if I do that.

Thank you Cathy. I am doing great, went to bed early to relax. Starting my day with a qt. of lemon & water.

Lady Inslet- What a fantastic gift to yourself! And a great inspiration to me.

Cynthia-I run soft fruits through the juicer several times to really wring all the juice out...

Well.....morning everyone. It's day #3 and I am so happy to be doing this fast and I appreciate you all being here. I'm feeling good. Some nausea yesterday and a little fatigue but nothing too bad and I take it as a sign I am moving in the right direction. Woke up at 3 and had a few swallows of cold water which hit my stomach like a brick. I thought I was going to throw up but didn't.

One thing that I have really noticed is that I am more aware of my body and its sensations. Maybe with all the effort of digestion out of the way I can actually hear it!

After this qt of lemon water will be making-
Watermelon, kiwi, lime & kale

Has anyone every juiced plums? I have a dozen very ripe and juicy ones I don't want to waste. Not sure what to combine them with as they will make pretty thick juice I think. Any suggestions?

CathyA.
07-21-2011, 07:41 AM
I think that plums would be quite good. Watermellon is always a good thinner. Last night I made red bell pepper with watermellon and romaine. It was really good. Woke up this morning and the humidity has left the air. WOW!!! What a relief. It has been very sticky here in MN. I can finally get some yard work done without melting. It's going to be a great day!!

Hello fellowship! Today is day 6 for me :cheer:!! Pretty smooth sailing so far. A few headaches, some sleep loss, but nothing major. I'm in awe of how easy this has been. Water fasting was pure torture for me. I was starving the whole time.

Had some celery, romaine, green apple earlier. The green stuff isn't really doing it for me at the moment. I'm sipping on some pure orange right now. Much better! :) Will probably juice up a watermelon later.

Hope everyone is doing well!! :heart

I know everyone is different, but there is a minimum amount of juice we should be getting in?

Hi everyone...
I know everyone is different, but there is a minimum amount of juice we should be getting in?

I honestly don't think there is a minimum. I've been tirelessly reading through previous threads and it seems as if just drinking as much as you're craving is what's called for. I see so many people who have several days with only water, and people who are drinking a gallon. I'm not sure how much I'm getting at the moment as I'm not measuring or setting rules for myself. I've found that to be very freeing and think that will help me be able to do this for a very long time.

I'm certainly no expert, however, so someone else might have a better answer ;).

CathyA.
07-21-2011, 07:34 PM
Agree with Lady Judea. This is a very freeing time. It is nice to get a break from food. I think that it is an "up to you" answer. I guess for me I just follow what my body is telling me. When I did my forty day fast there were days that I consumed a LOT of juice and there were days that all I really wanted was water. I do know that for me the key to staying on my fast is not limiting my juice intake. If I feel that I need the juice, I just drink it. Even if it is a huge amount. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I think it may help you on your fasting journey.

Thank you both...just finishing day 3 and I just haven't been hungry once. I've been drinking about two qts of juice a day, making more but not getting around to drinking it. By mid afternoon I just don't really want anything. I am so amazed so far that this is so doable for me!

Detox -
sore tongue tip, crack in corner of my mouth, cheeks were red and hot to the touch this afternoon and a lovely zit on my cheek...felt a little back pain but nothing much and other than that I feel fantastic........energy but in a low key kind of way and even though I feel fatigued on one hand I feel really good on the other and as far as emotionally goes this feels so freeing.

Anyway sweet dreams my lovlies....thanks for sharing this journey with me.

All the women in my family have chronic post nasal drip, even my grandmother had it........am hoping that will go away for good. But no stuffiniess. Looking forward to each day and that feels great. Going shopping tonight to restock my fruits and veggies....need apples and ginger!!! I could blather on and on here. I feel excited and hopeful and present. I've definitely found this to be true myself. Once any sort of restriction comes into play it's over.

Lady Allura:Sounds like you're in a great place...glad to hear!

Aleesha: how exciting that it's done!! :cheer:

Lady Aredhel, Cbowden, and CathyA: Hope you all are still doing well. :)

Hope I didn't forget anyone.

Today is day 7 for me. I went out last night to check out a juice bar I have right up the street. It was closed, unfortunately, but there was a sushi bar right next door so my son got some dinner. Wasn't a wasted trip I guess. It was amazingly easy to watch him eat his dinner. I've gone to two restaurants now for him and wasn't the least bit tempted...so freeing!!!

Down 11 lbs now in 6 days. Feels soooooo good to NOT be carrying around so much water weight! TOM is scheduled to start anytime now. If I can refrain from eating the week before that, I can refrain from eating anytime. I'm usually so hungry that week!!

My skin is finally starting to clear up. I had been really broken out before fasting. That was definitely an indication that a fast was in order. Overall I'm feeling really good. No hunger whatsoever and plenty of energy. :woohoo:

Day 5 for me. I have released 8lbs so far. Got my jug o' water and heading out to enjoy another beautiful day. I got a lot done out in the yard yesterday and am ready to soak in more fun in the sun. I wish I was one of those people who loved gardening, but I am not. However, I do love being outside and getting that fresh air. I must have hit a little bit of a fasting high yesterday. I cleaned the heck out of my house in addition to all my outside work. Scrubbed walls and everything. :)

GlimR-- I know what you mean about the congestion. I spent most of my life with a pocket full of klenex because of my sinus problems. (I didn't cure that from fasting. I gave up dairy before becoming raw vegan.) It is wonderful to wake up and be able to breathe through your nose. Glad you are feeling so wonderful.

YAY Allesha. Happy new floor!! ;)

Another beautiful day here in the West.....although I think we're headed for 90's later....the rain teased us yesterday. Sky got really dark, the thunder cracked, it spit a few drops and then moved on......Rain! I need some rain! (one of the things I miss about Florida is the thunder storms)

On Day 5. Yay! It's been pretty easy so far.....a couple of times I fell into the 'I'm bored, what's to eat' trap but just made myself get busy doing something else and it went away very quickly.

Fasting is so liberating!!!!!!!!! To not have to think about food is so freeing! I think I'm starting to feel the 'bliss' that Aleesha talks about. I just feel happy. Not a feeling I've had in a long time.....

I am drinking herbal sun teas in between my juices. That seems to help because for some reason water just isn't speaking to me. I do have a glass of water with Chlorophyll before going to bed but that's about all the water I'm doing.

I'm using my old honey jars (16oz) with two tea bags. It makes a nice glass of tea. The rest of the jars I keep in the fridge for when I want something. It's been easy and I'm definitely drinking more water this way.

Okay, off to prep fruits and nuts for hubby's GS tomorrow.....

Happy feasting everyone!

Ciao!

I spent hours this morning juicing. I made some nice green juices... so I'm set for today and probably tomorrow as well. Nice to be able to spend the time doing something you love and you know is going to bring such great health to your being.

namaste'

I just finished up a Reiki session with my new guy... it was his first session and he loved it. Nice to just relax and do something I love. Great way to christen the condo as well!

I'm curled up with a blanket... knowing I need to get up and do more around here. Feeling lazy and relaxed. Perhaps I'll just sleep for a bit first? *giggling*

*the precious calls and i answers... you knows i do... you knows i need to... you knows i love it!*

I popped into the juice bar up here. Amazing to have one in walking distance! Anyway the owner was there for the first time and I got to introduce myself, let her know that I need her to buy a strainer for my juices and that I'd like a discount. She agreed to all of the above. Ahhhh what a treat. Great juice and 10% off. I love that!

So I'm hooked up. The market up here has agreed to sell me all my produce at cost plus 10% and the juice bar is selling me juice at a discount. This mama is HAPPY!!!!!!!!

I am having an amazing day. So full of energy AGAIN!!!! I have been dealing with low energy for a long time now. I am truely delighted that I am finding it on this fast.
I had a rather embarrasing episode at Target today. I was standing there minding my own buisness, looking though the clearance rack (because I am a cheapo), when suddenly my tummy turned a little bit and I knew I just better get there. Wouldn't you know it the bathroom just has to be full of old ladies, small romping children and their mothers. Oh great. Some things I just like a bit more privacy for. (but I have no problem posting about it;) ) Well..... I didn't have a BM.... I had an explosion! And it was loud to boot. They probably heard it at the $ section. Even made me jump a bit. And that is no good. If you know what I mean. Okay...well enough about that. I just thought it was kind of funny. I always share funny. Even if it makes me look like and idiot.

Water all day today. So super productive I did not even want to stop an make the juice.

Cythia--Glad to hear you are doing so well on this fast.

Lady Judea--Take what you can get. Any elimination is a good thing.

Allesha--Nice. I'd love it if there were a juice bar here.

Happy Fasting. See you on day 6.

Hello fasters!! :kisses:

I'm still laughing at the "explosion" stories. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but hilarious in retrospect! I've not had that situation as of yet. Everything is small and hard to pass. Hasn't been too pleasant but things seem to be getting better.

Confession time: I've never been to Costco. I just ran up there and got myself a membership. O-M-G!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's awesome!!!! I haven't found one good place to buy produce here....until now!! It was all gorgeous with great prices!! Woo hoo!! I know this is probably very old news to most, but I'm still on cloud nine about it!!! :throwhearts:

Today is day 8 for me. One whole week down! It's been a fantastic week. Symptoms have been minimal...hunger has been as well. If I do get hungry, I have juice and that takes care of it. :)

I had 10lbs of carrots to get rid of (carrot juice hasn't sounded good this week), so I juiced them up and am drinking it straight. I've never had it that way before and I love it! They're so sweet on their own. Not sure why I was always under the impression that something needed to be added to make them palatable. The color is gorgeous. I'll probably just drink these today. Like I said, I have 10 lbs to go through.

Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend!! Enjoy your juice! (or water or MC)

Oh btw...down 11.4 lbs for week one...I'll take it!!!! I'm probably going to just weigh in weekly from this point on. I really want to make this a lifestyle instead of something I'm just doing to drop some quick weight. Weighing everyday is pretty counter-productive.

I am having a good day....100%delicious juice now for 5 days...may be a drop in the bucket to experienced fasters but I am thrilled to bits with it!! Have only had a 16 oz juice at a juice bar today and one bottle of water...was out shopping w/daughter all day and there was just no where to get anything else but I am feeling fine and will make some juice in a little while. The juice I had was wonderful...apple/lemon/ginger/carrot...so good, enjoyed every drop while we were waiting for the tow truck. Our van blew a water pump while I was in the hfs and DH was waiting outside with the air running to keep my other produce cold....life is so interesting but all is well and the day was good.
I was down 10 Lbs this am!! Another 10 and I will really be feeling good!
I'm tired from running around all day and being on my feet but realy so peaceful at heart, grateful for my life and just happy.

Just one word for me today. TIRED!! Going to bed.

Hang tight ladies!

Hope you slept better than I did! I couldn't keep my eyes open last night, then went to bed and lay there awake for hours

Bad night...hungry...cold...hot...itchy...miserable. Hungry this morning as well. Going to be slurping down the juice early and often. I should be starting my period any second now (tick tick tick tick tick)...I'm thinking that might be the cause of some of my discontent. Just going to try to stay out of the fam's hair today so as to not bring them down with my terrible ju-ju. They are also on their own for food today. They both have leftovers from yesterday, so that should get them through for a little while.

I broke my rule about not weighing more than once a week (didn't even last a day lol) and really learned my lesson. Up .6 this morning. Okay, Universe, I won't do that again. Once a week it is. Message received loud and clear.

Anywho...today is day 9. That sounds pretty cool to say. I've attempted juice fasts in the past and was never very successful with them. I'm glad this one is going so well. I guess we all just need to be in the right place, emotionally speaking. I've hit my first stumbling block now. Still not tempted to eat....just feeling crabby (which is when I usually turn to food for comfort). I'm taking a cue from other fasters and vowing to NOT break this fast in a bad "place" (again...emotionally speaking). I will break this fast when it's planned...and I'm completely ready to do so.

Have an awesome day everyone!!! I'm off to get a big glass of orange/apple/lemon/lime juice. It's oh so deliciously tart!!

Peace,
Judea :kisses:

Lady Judea~
I hope the day smoothes out for you. I too really embrace the idea of not breaking the fast on a "bad" day. There is so much wisdom in that because #1...you want the experience to be positive and breaking on a down day can squash that vibe. And #2...that angsty feeling will probably pass and then you won't have done something rash you might regret. Sometimes it just really helps to hear something that is simple and so profound put into words that ring so true.

The maiden voyage of the OmegaVert was a success. I am gonna love it. Made some Carrot/Orange juice for breakfast this morning and it was delicious. The pulp is very dry and there is no separation of the juice at all and there was minimal pulp. It's another hot, hot day here but at least in Florida we expect that this time of year...keeping cool inside as much as possible and making lots of juice.

I look different, even to myself...more open...more at peace...relaxed....wow...I am so grateful~
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Day 7 here too! I am surprised with how easy this has been. I think having a variety of juices is definitely the key for me. Not just the same old Green Lemonade that I drank a few years ago when I first went raw. That got boring....

Congrats to everyone for hanging in there. Aleesha, what is this thread if you aren't here supporting us? That will be weird.....

I've worked two catering jobs this week and wasn't tempted at all to eat! Usually I nibble something.....but, I'm very satisfied with my juices. Not sure how long I will go for. Hello...hello...HELLO fellow Fasters!!!!! Lemon Nee here...ready to start fasting again!!! My goal is to break my 18 days this time! I am starting with the MC, then I'll probably move over to juicing.

Perfection will come later! :). So, here I am! I've got all of the tools I need to get started! I will drink my Detox Tea this morning and then start on my Gallon jug of Lemonade.

I will go back and read this entire thread for inspiration.

So I'm on day eight and I feel great. I've decided to take my juicer to Seattle with me on Wednesday and continue my healing process. There should be a lot of temptation in Seattle, but I'm fully committed to doing 60 or 90 days and I'm excited at the early results. My girlfriend will be ending her feast at day nine and she'll probably pick it up down the road a bit. It's been great doing it together, so I'll miss that, but she'll still be juicing everyday. Anyway, I've lost around 10-15 pounds and have tons of energy at this point. Day 2 and 3 were fairly tough but it's been smooth sailing since.

Day 5 I bought a paint strainer bag from Home Depot ($1.29 for two one gallon bags) and have been using them to get all the pulp out of the juices. They work fantastically, and if you're in the market for a nutmilk bag, I would highly recommend saving some dough and getting these. It maybe adds an extra minute or two to strain the juice and clean the bag, but it's well worth it and makes the green juices a bit more pleasant.

Day 10 today...hunger is gone...thank goodness!! Yesterday was really rough as far as that was concerned. I ended up going to the movies last night with hubby and the boy. Took the boy to dinner on the way. Everything looked and smelled great, but I wasn't tempted to eat in the slightest. It's nice to know that I can be hungry and not be in danger of falling off the wagon.

Today is better. I had a bunch of oranges I had to use, so I've been sipping on orange juice all day. It's super sweet and oh so satisfying :juicy:.

I did hop on the scale again (can't seem to help myself on that one) and my weight was back down again after the little jump yesterday. So I'm down 11.8 in 9 days.

Happy juicing!

Hey everybody. Glad to see a couple of new people on. Today was good. Lots of energy. Released a couple more lbs. Down 12 now. Yippee. Fortunately for me, the smell of food doesn't get to me. I think it's because I always bring my own food to work anyway and I just don't think the other as "food". This juice fast is turning into a "mainly" water fast. I had 1 juice yesterday and only 1 today. So we will see what the rest of the evening brings.

Happy fasting.

I had a good day...was tired from being wide awake most of the night. Am hoping to sleep tonight. I know taking supplements isn't a good idea for healing and digestion, Does anyone know whether herbal tinctures are the same. No digestion required. I've taken valerian tincture for sleep issues before. Any thoughts?
Cooked a big family meal for the first time tonight since I began the fast and that was interesting. I had a green juice. My grand daughter was sitting next to me and said, "Gramma where's your plate?" (she's 3)
I'm feeling pretty good but a little...I don't know, hard to put my finger on it. My husband keeps looking at me as if he thinks I might not be okay. I am okay but just quiet, thinking.....getting through...I don't know...can't really say. Anyway today completes my first week juice fasting...haven't so much as licked my finger when preparing anyone else's food. Am proud of myself and looking forward to this next week.
Hope everyone is doing fine~

GlimR, I know what you mean about not being able to "put your finger on it". It is a feeling that is difficult to describe. You are doing a great job.

My hubby made fun of me tonight because I was telling my juice how pretty it is. He sure got a laugh out of that. He was like "did you tell your juice it was pretty" and I said yes. Well that was all it took for him to start talking to his salad and being a big butt head. LOL.

Lady Judea-
You are doing fantastic!! You must be thrilled with the weight loss. I cook for a family and my day care group and that's probably the most challenging. You are meeting it so well.

Cathy- But your juice IS pretty!! Glad you and your husband both have a sense of humor! *s*

Today is day #8 for me...down 11 lbs this morning and generally feeling great.
Making some green juice for later in the morning. I slept great last night. I'm 54 and for the last year I wake up drenched in sweat most nights if I even sleep. I say if I wasn't so wet I'd burst into flames!! But the last few nights I haven't been hot like that...and it has felt so good to snuggle under the comforter....I'm liking it! Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks amplee for the tip. My Breville, while it does great with greens, apples, celery and such, the softer fruits are not extracting as well. Perfect (and cheap!) solution.

Good morning all you happy juicers! (somehow I heard Ty Pennington in my ear as I typed that - lol)

Day nine for me. I'm still cruising right along. It helps so much that my husband works out of town and is only here every other weekend. I don't know how ya'll do it when you have to cook for your family. I have absolutely nothing in the house to eat other than my juice stuff. It helps keep my honest.

CathyA, I too, have only been doing one juice a day. Drinking lots of herbal sun tea and kombucha. Not so much plain water.

GlimR, hang in there. Not sure what's going on with you but you should break thru it if you keep on your path. Do you have any time at all during the day just for you? Sounds like you're pretty busy and surrounded by family and kids? Do you have an opportunity to walk in nature? Sit quietly somewhere peaceful and just 'be'? Take a long uninterrupted bubble bath?

When I first started on this fast I made a commitment to drastically limit my TV watching. To be more mindful about it. I haven't missed it at all. Have read several books in the past week. I've mostly had the classical music station on which has helped create a calming atmosphere. This has really worked for me.

Lady Judea, are you drinking enough water? I've been making herbal sun teas using my 16oz honey jars and two tea bags. It's perfect for a tall glass of tea. Also, have read that celery is known for quieting even the toughest of headaches. I love celery. Apples, celery, ginger and some greens...yummy. I don't ever get headaches but if you try it let us know if it worked.

Lemon Nee, welcome! Another 18 days? I can see why everyone does this. It just feels amazing.

Welcome to amplee and OCGirl. Hello Mystic Tree. Sorry for anyone I missed.

Have a great day!

Cynthia...
Thank you for the suggestions...actually I am feeling great...peaceful, no stress...just some "things" that are coming up but no worries at all...am loving this fast...and am just going with the flow...ups and downs as they occur but embracing them all and happy to do so. I do have some quiet time, the children are all gone by 6..doing some Qi Gong breathing, etc...I think everyone is watching me because I seem "different" and I guess I am~:wuv

Day 9 for me. Woke up starving. Had a glass of juice and ready to move on with the day. My hubby and I are off to the zoo. That will be fun. Then to my grandsons last t-ball game. How did that go by so fast?! Seems like t-ball just started, and he loves it so much.

Cynthia--I've been having a kombucha here and there also. I love kombucha.

GlimR--Yes we do like to laugh around here. :)

Sounds like everyone is doing well.

i'm falling in love with this thread!:heart i am not fasting yet..i started gathering info last weekend, bought a juicer, gathered recipes and while trying research how much juice to consume daily i was lucky enough to find this wonderful thread! i can't believe how much info there is here! I'm going to begin my fast on Thursday, i'm really excited about it! i picked thursday because i've read that you need to rest for the first couple of days so i'm hoping that i will be on the road to recovery when work comes back around monday. My goal is 10 days, and maybe more!

Woot woo!! Welcome kellliek1986.

Hungry today. Drank lots of juice and water. I am wanting to break my fast, but my goal was to fast until friday. I am a head strong girl, so I am sure that I will be here until then. Just hitting one of those fasting moments. I will be fine tomorrow. I have to work the next three days, then on vacation. It is always easier to get through the last few days if I am working, even though I run a restaurant. MMMmmm. How does that work? I don't know, but I am glad it does.

Good night fellow fasting friends!!

Wow, this is an absolutely fantastic thread! I have done water fasting in the past, the longest for 5 days and lots for 3. Now, I'm ready to try the juice feasting. I spent a month in Uganda and have been back in the states for just over a week. I was raw before I left, but it was impossible for me to stay raw there. I'm missing Uganda but thankful to be back on a raw diet! Since getting back, I've been drinking lots of gs, juice and eating one huge salad a day. Greens were rather nonexistent or looked inedible in Uganda, so I was and am craving salads. Fruit though was abundant and I ate as much of it as I could. Avocados, too, were the largest I've ever seen and soooo smooth!

So, that's what has happened for me this summer so far and now I'm looking forward to it becoming even better with a juice feast! I'm thinking of starting either Thurs or Fri. I was thinking I want to be home on the 3rd day when the hunger pains are most likely to hit, but maybe I'd be better off if I was at work. Oh well, I'll get it figured out. I'll be starting within the next week, hopefully sooner rather than later. It has been wonderful to read this whole thread and see and feel all the support.

Cathy~Funny how accepting the ups and downs of fasting is so easy this time and you just have to roll with what comes along. Vacation will be great to look forward to I'm sure.

Hey everyone!! I've got a lot of catching up to do on the posts, but I wanted to check in real quick on my way out. I ended up eating yesterday...just felt like I needed a juice break. No digestion issues, no tummy problems. I did poop a lot (yay!) ...I think I just needed some whole food to push things out lol. I'm up about 4 lbs due to water retention, but expect that to be gone within a day or two. TOM also started today, so that might help as well.

No juice yet today as I'm still feeling very satisfied from yesterday. If the weight takes too long to go back down then I won't do this again. If it drops right away and I get back to losing I might make this a regular thing. Not sure yet...just flying by the seat of my pants. It would be nice knowing that I had a day of eating to look forward to about every 10 days or so. We'll see.

Heading off now...will catch up with everyone's progress in a bit. Love you all!! :kisses:

Welcome kelliek and Amber!

Wow, seems like most of us are fighting the hunger urge. Really tough for me yesterday. Even this morning I'm thinking about it.....today is day 10. My goal was 7 and maybe, just maybe 30. Now that I'm on ten I'm not sure how much longer I can go. My energy levels have dipped. I'm wondering if I'm not comsuming enough calories?

I'm jonesing for a GS......I'll finish my glass (or two) of cantaloupe, cucumber and lime and then go from there.....

Question is: does my body need to eat or am I just bored with juicing........hmmmmm.........

Ciao!

I made a lot of juice this morning...

One with kale, romaine, beet greens, red chard, celery, cucumber, apple, lemon & ginger....not too bad. Trying to get in a variety of different greens.

One with pineapple, oranges, carrots, spinach & ginger...delicious!

One with cranberries, black grapes & apples..om goodness!!

Am more than set for the day.

Welcome Amber.

Hang in there Cynthia. This could just be one of those "fasting" moments. Follow what your body tells you to do.

GlimR--You are a juicing maniac this morning:excited:

I am still here. I am committed to my friday end date. But I feel very hollow today. Good...but hollow.

Happy fasting!!

Thanks Cathy for the encouragement.

I think a part of me is scared what will happen when I break my fast.....will I undo all the good things that have happened in the last 10 days?

I think I need to come up with a plan. A structure for eating. Maybe juicing (or GS) in the morning, raw at lunch and either raw or juicing for dinner....maybe if I thought I'd have as much control over my eating as I do juicing.

Alright, day 10 and still juicing....

Thanks for the warm welcome! I decided to go ahead and start my juice feast today since there's really no reason to wait. I have the day off, so I was able to make lots of juice this morning. I really had a great time putting things together and experimenting. Right now I'm drinking watermelon juice. I used 1/2 watermelon, 1 lemon and a small handful of mint leaves, very refreshing! Sorry to see quite a few of you will be leaving/stopping your fasts soon, but hopefully more will come along.

Cynthia~
I think to continue in a positive way having a plan is a key idea...at least determining in your own mind what you will and will not do so you have something to focus on. This is my first fast so I know for me I am going to def. give this a lot of thought.

Amber~
I am planning to go at least 30 days, today being #9...I love watermelon w/kiwi & lime. I bought some mint the other day but haven't tried it in anything yet.

I've had a low day..feeling a little weak and tired, had a second green juice and that seemed to help some. I figure it just comes with the territory and am okay with that...going to bed early to read. Did some dry brushing last night for the first time and had a decent night's sleep. Love the high energy days, taking the lower days as a good sign that toxins are being released.

Day 11. Reduced 14lbs. My clothes are getting very loose. I am looking forward to ending this fast. Although I have felt good through most of it, I am feeling ready. So...for today I will fast. Starting with a BIG glass of juice today. Watermellon, celery, cucumber. Tastey. I have plenty for work today. That is what will keep my on track. Slept like poo last night. A combo of a rumbling tummy and being excited for vacation. I am hoping to wear myself out today so that I get some good sleep tonight. Tomorrow is my extra long day. Usually about 12 hrs. Then I am off for a week. I am so in need of a break it is crazy.
Everyone have a good day.

Happy fasting!:hug

Good morning everyone. I only slept about 6 hours last night but I feel great! Started to get a slight headache last night but it never blossomed and got bad, thankfully. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Well, I broke down last night.....just couldn't stop thinking about eating. I wasn't hungry just wanted to EAT. I juiced Aleesha's tomato concoction but it didn't satisfy me. So I finally succumbed.

Did I eat fruit? No...........and boy did I pay for not breaking this fast gently. At 2am I woke up with the worst stomach ache. Very painful. Learned my lesson.

I fasted for 10 days. Had planned for 7 and maybe 30 so I'm gonna be happy this time with 10. I'm gonna do some GS's for a couple of days, eat some this weekend and then see where I am.

May be back soon. A 7 - 10 day fast a month would not be a bad thing.....

A plan. Gotta have a plan!

Ciao for now!

It's all a journey. 10 days a month sounds like a plan to me....I think finding what will work for us individually is key...how to make it part of our lifestyle...yup....

Having a better day today than yesterday...trying not to weigh myself till day #14 but boy am I tempted...it's hard to tell where I stand at this point and I don't want to focus on weight but instead # of days and how I feel...a very different way of being and thinking about change for the better.

Day #11-
I think one of the best things about this fast is that I am actually sleeping. I have a major back problem/injury and to not wake myself or my husband up moaning in pain is such a relief. I forgot what it was like to actually rest and sleep in bed. I think there must be less inflammation in my whole back and so less compression to the nerves in my legs....hence less pain..wow!! Thank you, thank you, thank you powers that be~
Since I hurt my back I have had to stop doing all exercise because of the debilitating nerve pain in my legs, even and especially walking which I loved. I live only a fifteen minute walk from the ocean and was doing 20-25 miles a week. I've gained 80 lbs since then, at least 11 of which I have lost since starting the fast...I feel hopeful that I can reclaim my self...be more in tune, inner and outer being.
Anyway...I am looking forward to another day...one in which I allow my body to heal, to rest, to be.
Hope you each have a blessed day~

Day 12. My last day. I am ready to be done. Funny thing is that I will probably wake up and make myself some juice for breakfast tomorrow. Took the dogs on a nice long walk this morning. Last night was another on and off sleep night. I got woken up by a bat circling my bed. EEEKKKK!!! I hid under the covers and let my husband take care of that. Didn't really sleep well after that. Mmmm wonder why?!:)

Great job on your 10 day fast Cynthia. Next time you will know about breaking in gently with food. I'd bet most of us repeat fasters have had to learn the lesson. Doesn't feel good when you bomb your tummy with real food too fast.

GlimR--Glad to hear that you are sleeping. Pain is such a horrible thing to live with. I pray that you find the relief you are looking for.

GlimR, how awesome to be healing your back! I have noticed that I am sleeping better too. But for you to not have any back pain - wow! What a great feeling that must be. Maybe you can eventually get back to walking the beach again. What a goal to have. Congrats!

Cathy, 12 days! Good for you. Since my painful experience with real food I haven't eaten anything solid. Been drinking GS's and herbal tea. Kind of scared to eat. lol I'm hoping the GS's will assist my body with transitioning. Then maybe have some fruit.....then salads.....hopefully.

See ya'll back here soon.

GlimR - keep up the good work!

Hi everyone! Im new to all this healthy eating and I plan to join the next fasting thread....I need to do some research first. I plan on going on a 10 day fasting...juice fastng followed by a completely Raw diet. Im overweight and unhealthy and hoping this will all work out for me before my weight starts to make me very unhealthy. Anyways...I had some questions...

Does it matter what I juice? what I start with or what I mix up?
Is 10 days to many or too less for me? I want to detox my body before starting the Raw diet and this is how I plan on doing it...I weigh about 250 lbs if that helps (not sure if u need to know that or not)....

CathyA.
07-29-2011, 09:43 PM
Cyntia--you should do well with the gs.

Jolene--Welcome. This is a great way for you to start healing your body. As far as the juices...keep it simple to start. Find out what you like and go from there. 10 days could be perfect or not. There is no answer to that. Everyone is different. Listen to what your body is telling you. Just drink enough to make sure that you are able to keep on track. Don't skimp on your juice to try and push weight loss. It is counter productive.

Happy Fasting!!

Sounds like everyone is doing great! Today is day 4 for me and I'm so surprised to have gotten this far without any trouble other than a few hunger pangs. I drove to Elko, NV and back since Friday morn. (left @ 2:30 am). 27 hours on the road was tough, but I was able to stay on my fast. I made lots of juice to take with me but had to get it drunk on Fri since no refrigeration, and than I drank water after that.
