View Full Version : Getting enough calories

I am fighting chronic fatigue and have been "going raw" for over a year. Then I went raw for 2 weeks straight. It was great. But I slipped away from 100% raw. I've leveled out on my energy level and want to be able to keep going for a full day so am now working on getting rid of candida yeast in my system. The alergy testing that I had done showed candida yeast. There's a great book out there that explained what is best to eat. So I stopped eating all fruits and any other natural sugars. My question is: how do I get enough calories eating all raw to be well? I'm at a good weight and can't afford to lose many more pounds.

Hi Mom of 3,

There are a number of ways to rid yourself of candida. One of them is to cut out fat but you're able to eat fruit. Here is a thread that discusses 3 different ways of ridding your self of the candida. Maybe one of them may suit your needs better than another:

You might try just doing 100% raw and not cutting out any fat or fruit sugars. I had chronic fatigue and candida and they both disapeared when I began to eat 100% raw foods. All the rules change when eating raw b/c your body is getting exactly what it needs!

Hi,

I have had Candida in the past. I eat several pieces of fruit today and could not feel better. Three yrs ago, I stopped eating fruit for over a year and was very tired. :( This IS only MY experience, but I would not cut out fruit again--Maybe just try a variety. I do very well on berries and green apples and ripe pears. Good luck:)

Thanks for the input. How long did it take to get rid of the candida? I don't mind if it's a long time, but it's good to have an idea of months or "years?"

From what I understand that proper diet suppress candida, but do not kill it.
Probiotic bacteria foods are very beneficial in fighting candida.
Actually low calories diets do help.

Hi Mom of 3,

I only know the approx. time for one way of overcoming the candida and that is what I've learned from Dr. Doug Grahams board (and with a lady I corresponded with that tried it and it worked). It takes 3 weeks to a month of no overt fats. Again, this this is general and I'm sure it could take longer.

Here is one of Dr. Grahams posts:

Candida can have more causes than just food. Chronic fatigue, adrenal exhaustion, pancreatic fatigue and other issues can all play a role in candida.
Still, the overriding factor is the overconsumption of fat.
I recommend that total fat in the diet be limited in order to consume sufficient carbohydrates.
Whether you focus on covert fats or overt fats is a fine tuning that can be dealt with later in the transition phase.
Certainly overt fats should not make up more than 10% of total calories consumed.

Covert fats are the small amounts in all food that you generally might overlook because you don't think of it as a fatty fruit. Overt fats are the obvious ones such as nuts and avocado, the foods that're outright fatty.

Hopefully someone else can give you a general idea of length when going another route on ridding the candida.

I continued eating fruits and cut my fat intake -- and it was just a matter of weeks before the candida was gone. This was in the early months of being raw. As I've described elsewhere on this forum, the candida was definitively diagnosed by stool tests, not by symptoms alone. Doug & Roz Graham's recommendations resonated with me, so that's the path I chose rather than the candida diet that my holistic doctor recommended. The proof for me was in the results. I do believe that different methods work for different people -- and for where a person's body may be at that particular time.

I do want to make it clear that what I'm referring to is ways to eliminate candida while being all raw.

Best luck, Mom of 3. There is an end in sight -- and it doesn't have to be all that long in the future!

Thanks for the new input! I'm craving sweets something aweful so I read up on the other threads and maybe I need more calcium. It would be great to eat all that fruit again!

Also practice food combining. Because you don't want to mix fruits and fats within the same meal. It is better on your system to eat fruits first, and let the sugars naturally go through your system. Fats will slow down sugar assimilation which might be where the problems lie.
