So today i went and revamped my fridge. Threw out all my old SAD food to give to my co workers and restocked with lovely organic fruits and vegetables. Now i don't mind paying the extra cost for some organic fruits and veggies but these nut prices are a little ridiculous.
Raw Almonds 15.99/lb
Raw Walnuts 13.99/lb
Raw Cashews 12.99/lb
Just a pound!!! I mean i eat a pound in two days!? So i didn't get almonds like i planned and got some other nut/seed varieties that were cheaper like pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds(2.99/lb) and even brazil nuts/macadamia nuts were ok prices(8.99/lb) will purchase those in the future. Any particular reason these nuts are soo expensive and how are you affording them for all these recipes?

My advice is eat simply - lots of fruits and vegetables/greens. Nuts are way too expensive and high in fat to be a long term staple in ones diet.

I buy nuts a little at a time to stock my pantry. Now that I have just about every kind (except macadamia, which I can't seem to find anywhere ... and probably won't use anyway given how much they cost!). Anyway, I don't use that many nuts really, but now I have them in my pantry for when I need them and just replenish as I use them.
I get raw cashews at Trader Joes and they're a much better deal then what you're finding. Even Whole Food's raw cashews (in the bulk section) are a lot less expensive.
That said, I think the advice to eat more simply is probably a good one. I have been eating nuts all along and while I haven't gained a pound eating raw, I've only lost a few and have more I want to lose. I plan to cut out nuts for two weeks staring on Monday to see if I can't drop a few more pounds.

Thanks for your responses. I agree that i might have to go sparingly on the nuts. Seeds on the other hand sunflower, pumpkin, chia were not that bad price wise and i have a few recipes where i can incorporate them. It's just i was gonna follow alissa's 30 day food challenge on point but i just don't think i can afford it as i feel a lot of her recipes call for nuts? maybe i'm crazy. I do love the amazing variety and will dabble occasionally but for now with this college life i need to keep it simple.

Nuts are way too expensive
Unless you buy dirtectly from farms
and high in fat to be a long term staple in ones diet.
Unless you sprout the nuts.
I take it easy on nuts, but to save money I do buy in bulk (generally 5# at a time) from Azure Standard and I keep them in the freezer. Here are their prices:
Almonds, Raw, Organic 5# $27.90
Cashews, Raw, Large White Pieces, Organic 5# $28.50
Walnuts, Raw, Organic 5# $37.55

One thing we also do is look for broken pieces of walnuts and cashews. We've found that the whole nuts cost almost double than the broken pieces. Our health food store sells them separately. I've also found them online cheaper, but haven't ordered any from them yet.

Awesome prices! I really just want some almonds honestly so this buy wouldn't be soo bad and i wouldn't have to do it often :) i may look into this soon thank you!
About the almonds - they state that they are "flash pasteurized" but that they're still considered raw and will sprout. Well - I can attest that this is true since we found an almond tree growing in our compost pile! We transplanted it into the garden bed and sadly it didn't survive the move... But - that shows that these almonds are still alive! *Ü*

Really, wow... Just to be on the safe side, i will make cheese or yougurt with the almond, so this way, i know they become alive.

You can also find some good prices on Amazon, a lot of the time. I tend to split my raw purchases between Amazon and Azure Standard (thanks to DebB - I'm waiting on my first shipment now!).

Not sure if there are maybe better prices on the Internet but shop around...
Me personally, I get nuts from Arabic grocery stores around me.
Im pretty sure theyre from Lebanon mostly meaning they showed be raw, no?
I get a huge bag of almonds and walnuts for 4.99 a pound, and there are a lot of other choices too.
Another place has almonds still in these green pods from the mountainous areas of Lebanon...wonderful...

I bought pecans/walnuts/macadamia/cashew nuts all in 50lb bulk last year and vacuum-sealed them in many packages, then froze many of them.
I wanted to know how much I was paying per pound for all the nuts. I don't have the correct totals in reach but I know they ranged from only around $3-$7 per pound or somewhere very near that. And that is all taking any shipping costs into account as well. I still have a seemingly infinite supply of most of them.
