I am making Alissa's broccoli soup and it requires avocado, and I never used them before. When I opened up two of them they both had brown spots on the inside meat part of the avocado. Is it safe to use?

Thanks,
Dave

If it's just a few brown spots but most of the avo is still green, I was told you can just scoop the brown spots out and use the rest. If the majority of the avo is brown, then you don't want to use it.

WOW,, you have never had an avacado?? Amazing,,, that's a huge part of what I love about raw is that we experience so many new fruits and vegies that we otherwise would have never tried :)

Hope you enjoy,, I had that soup twice last week for dinner,, yummy :)

That soup was "Dyno-Mite!!!"

I have to be honest, I was really sketical about the recipe at first. I am the type of person who will look at a recipe and then do my own thing with it. Most recipes don't suit my taste without me doing some twiking to it. :)

Well, after I made it and took a bite, I knew I found a new favorite. In fact my gf and I both said the same thing and that is hey maybe we can do this raw thing after all. :)

This soup is truely terrific!!

Jamie, I could see how you had this twice last week, it's that good. :)

Hey Jamie,

I've never eaten an avocado either, I tried one bite of quac once, a million years ago, and one very tiny teensy eensie bite when I was at a raw thingy, and I hated it both times.

So, I've never actually eaten one, only maybe a total of 2 tsp in my entire life. ICK

But, I know there are many many people on this board who love them :o)

RP I was the same with tomatoes. I've always hated them. Now I can eat them (inadvertantly, not purposely) and enjoy it.

Have you ever thought about giving them another chance? I've heard you use the term slimy, but they aren't at all. A good one is thick and creamy and rich. They are delicious.

Oh, won't you give the ol' Alligator Pear a chance? They like lemon juice.

Avocados are great with a little cummin and celtic sea salt sprinkled on them and then misted with braggs (no braggs for you anti-braggies).

I have to say that if I did not have avocados in my diet I would not be able to stay raw. I find them extremely satisfying. What I get from them goes way beyond the taste or the convienience.

sport, I agree with you. It is a toss up between the pesto and avocado, as far as a heavy satisfying raw food option goes.

Samuel and Sport,
I totally agree! I eat probably 2 avo's daily! I put them in everything! raw would be a lot more boring without avo's.

As long as we're talking about avocados, I have a beef. I'm having a hard time finding avocados at the supermarket that aren't ripe or nearly ripe. I usually can't buy more than two at a time which is frustrating since I too depend on them rather heavily right now.

Not sure if there are any solutions, just wanted to rant I guess.

Grab the produce manager and tell him you need several avocadoes that will last through the week and all they have out are ripe ones. Ask him to check in the back to see if there are any hard ones you can get.

Great idea, Sharon. I never thought to do that.

Thanks!
