I ate a egg mcmuffin and hashbrown this morning. :( I had been fighting the craving all week and I finally gave in. My memory must have triggered something in my taste buds because that's where the cravings have been coming from. I wasn't even hungry because I had a smoothie.
Oh well.....Toya

Don't feel bad Sol...we've all been there and done that! I used to LOVE those things...hoping my memories and tastebuds don't dig up a craving for those!!

Just keep on keepin' on and try not to dwell on it too much. It's done and over...keep going!

Absolutely. I have a FEROCIOUS craving for potato chips sometimes... I mean the "get in the car to drive across town in my pajamas" kind of craving. No kidding.

I always feel yucky afterward but somehow that memory completely vanishes form my noggin at the time of my acute insanity.

Go figure.

Cheers,

Oh I just experienced the potato chip thing last night. Did they taste good? Nope. Did they make me feel better? Nope. But did I HAVE to have them? Yep. But oh well, I say. No point in stressing over something that already happened. I'm sure that in the future, the longer I'm raw, the less strong these cravings will be and the more strong my body's resistance to such ideas will be.

Burritos are calling my name lately, lol! Haven't given in and don't plan to, but of course two people at work sat down across from me with burritos yesterday!

A couple months ago my husband and I needed to meet someone from out of town at a half way location between our houses. We arranged to meet at the I Hop because the other person knew where it was. We were waiting, and I was hungry, so I ordered a side of hash browns. BIG mistake. I was severely ill for the rest of the day. I was in agony.

Never again.

I ended up in the IHOP recently for a business lunch (not my choice of venue). Nothing on the menu to eat. Their salad was made with iceberg lettuce - no thanks. Then I saw the fruit bowl on the menu. Perfect! The waiter assured me it was fresh (not canned) fruit. Great! "No - no cottage cheese, No, No toast - just the fruit!" I get it - and there was a lot of fresh fruit in the bowl BUT they had poured syrup all over the fruit!. ARRRGGGHHHH!
I didn't have the heart to return it so I scrapped what I could off. But I was so sick after - heart palps, shaking....Never again.

It's ok. Just try to learn from this mistake and think of ways you can avoid this in the future.

Don't stress about food. I once heard that the only difference between a SAD eater who lives to be 90 and a raw foodist who lives to be 90 is that a RAW foodist stressed over what to eat their entire life. :D

Most of the time you get the cravings because it is your body cleansing out. The thing that you liked the most is what comes back to you in taste, smell and in your head. As you cleanse more you will see tastes come back that you had liked years ago but haven't had for years and years. I have had this happen to myself and many others.

I hope this is the case for me, flutterfly.

I have started a 3 day water fast on today. I hope this helps with the cravings.

The cravings won't stop and its getting harder not to eat cooked food. It's wild because when I started eating raw 12 days ago I wasn't getting these urges. I am going to meditate on what you said and I think in the end I will do a 10 day fast. Thanks for the info.

I found the same thing! I was raw for a couple of weeks with no problem - barely any cravings at all - and then all of a sudden WHAM! Can't stop thinking about cooked food.

Solchile and qetta: Not to get too personal or graphic, but how are your eliminations? I remember reading on http://therawfoodsite.com (I think that's the URL) where he advocates the Master Cleanse, he mentioned that during the cleanse one might experience old cravings as a part of the detoxification process and that with the morning's elimination the cravings will be gone. (You know with the MC one drinks that herb laxative tea at night and does the sea salt water flush in the a.m.) but I'm wondering if perhaps doing an enema or some other type of cleanse might help you.

I'm also in the process of starting a juice fast myself because I've been a "bad girl" and I need some healing in my body and it needs to rest from digesting too much.

Hi Solchile and qetta,

I am in the same boat. I was really raw for the first couple of weeks and now all that I crave is cooked. When I was raw for three weeks, my mom had her b-day and we had pizza. I had a couple slices. I went back to being raw the day after and was fine for a week. Now I can't stop thinking about pizza!! All I notice are pizza restaurants while I am driving around the city. I had 2 small bean burritos from a taco place yesterday and afterwards I felt really sleepy and weak. Bad part is, I still want some darn pizza!! It's a journey that's for sure. As long as I remain high raw, I am not going to get down on myself for eating cooked once in awhile because I don't want to stress myself out about food. Sooner or later we will find the balance that we need.
In the beginning I think it's easier to be raw because it's something new. Even though we feel great, the excitement boils down and that is where the real work begins. But take it easy, it will come to you and even though there might be some slips, embrace them and continue to be high raw!!

All my best,
dstar

Rawkinlocs - Thanks for the info! I'm going to check out that site right now and learn more about MC. What you said makes sense, because actually I haven't had much "elimination" the past few days anyway. Makes sense that there would be a tie to cravings. Joke told me how to do a salt flush and I was already planning that for the morning.

dstar - Thanks for the kind words!

This may only help those who felt AWFUL before going raw (like me, with 20 yrs of fibromyalgia, ugh) ...What I do to stop cravings is to focus on how bad I've felt and how determined I am NOT to go back to that place. I'm on day 25 of 100% raw (first week was a juice fast) and I haven't slipped and don't even let myself entertain cravings because I just tell myself that that food is INEDIBLE for me. It leads to my sickness and I am walking away from inflicting harm on myself. My 20 year old stepson came home from college to visit yesterday and, before he arrived, I was instructed to go to the supermarket and buy his SAD favorites for him, so he'd have something to eat here. The shopping cart was hilarious, should have taken a photo:carrots, kale, mushrooms, avocados, Doritos, Frozen Pepperoni Pizza, Donuts, Soda. I walked through the whole market feeling like I just landed on this planet and was observing the diet of this species...the Holiday Baking sections with marshmallow fluff and white flour and candies, the aisles of sugared stale cereals, the plastic covered meats...It all just means sickness to me so I have no cravings. I do crave flavors in Indian, Chinese and Mexican food but that turns out to be a matter of spices...I made a curried young coconut soup last night. I've made moo-shu vegetables with a plum sauce. All raw, all delicious because of the spices. (I'll never be a no-spice purist!) Anyway, hope this helps someone. So far, so good.

Melissa I think that's a great approach to take to cooked food, it being inedible. When I knew I had to go vegan for the sake of my conscience, that's the approach I took. Today I am going to start taking that approach to non-raw foods as well.

And, lol, your cart when you were shopping for you and your son is probably what my cart looks like for my husband and myself, sadly. Actually, I just found another reason to be strong with raw - to become a good example for my husband! I worry about his health way more than I worry about mine.

You're doing great, by the way! A great inspiration :)
