I'm just starting out and I've been eating avocados almost daily (love them), my question is they do have a lot of fat and I have just been eating half a day. Should I be eating a whole avocado per day? I just was wondering what is best. Right now I'm eating mainly fruits and veggies and if I eat nuts its a little bit maybe 1/4c.

thanks!

Yes,you are right the Avocado is rich in Fat.
Fat, 14.66 g
saturated, 2.13 g.
monounsaturated, 9.80 g...
I think that half is enough for one day...

It depends on the size of the avocado. I often eat two small avocados a day.

It's up to the individual and the other things they are eating.

When I was starting out I would eat the entire avo so if you want to eat it then do but it is not ideal.
Plenty of time to improve when you are well on the road and the cravings are gone.
On the other hand if you are ready to go that extra bit then go for it and reduce the fat.

I feel you should eat what you want, when you want it. Your body knows. It'll stop eating it when it's ready.

Funny, (and this is not about you ~ I'm generally speaking here) people don't ask if they "should" eat a box of chocolates or drink a 52 oz. cup of soda, but they'll ask about something as healthy as an avo, or a pint of strawberries, etc. Eat it! Maybe your body needs what it provides now. When it's happy, it'll go for something else!

Enjoy it w/out guilt! Love the avo! :)

Some feel that you should eat more fat and less fruit (sugar). Others feel that you should eat more fruit and less fat...others feel moderation in both. Either way, you've got to get your energy/calories from either or/both.....

Without going and researching, but from just what I'm recalling, avos have all the omegas - Omega, 3 6 and 9 and I think? are a little high in 6. Generally when just starting out, most people need the omega 3's the most. And after you are eating a clean, high raw diet for a while, then you need to incorporate some of the 6's and 9's.....

I'm not much help...LOL, just telling you what some believe. You're going to get different answers from different people, so you need to be the judge.

There's also a blood test that measures the amounts of omegas in your blood. Try out whatever you feel comfortable with, then maybe test, and see where you're at.

someone like Robert Young thinks that you SHOULD eat an avocado a day, whereas I'd assume someone like Doug Graham would say no.

I'm one of the people who believes in testing yourself/being scientific about it --seeing how it affects you.

HTH, in some small way?!!

Seems to me that we are afraid of food. Even food that is good for you. If eating an entire avocado works for you, then by all means eat it. Are we so brain washed from all the improper eating we have done in the past that we forget that we are eating REAL food now?

Many are.

You never need to think about 9 because your body can make that from the others.
They say that the ratio of the 6 to the 3 is what is important and not the amounts but when you research the correct ratio you are told anything from 1 to 1 all the way up to 1 to 4 so it is hard to know what is best.

I usually eat a whole one, several days a week.
I love avocados and usually eat what I want. I've NEVER thought about how much to eat. I'm with Revell on this one.

Seriously, I could never eat just a half avocado unless I needed to ration my food. I love them so!

Listen to your body. It knows what it wants.

Well said and sadly true. People laugh at me when I eat a whole melon for breakfast but think nothing of the two donuts a co-worker is eating.....

To OP - just start eating, you're body will know

"Really!!! You ate a whole pineapple." Hah. Makes me laugh when I get questioned about how much fruit, salad, or whatever, I eat. Apparently eating a half pound of burger, on a bun, with salty ketchup and a mound of fried potatoes is a normal serving. But not a whole pineapple. :confused

I completely agree with Revvell. Just listen to your body, and, as long as it's raw, you'll do fine.

I certainly eat 1 avocado per day if I feel like it. Quite frequently I will use an entire avo in a salad that I have for lunch.
