I know with yoga, you are supposed to do ujayi breathing throughout the entire practice. However, due to sinus issues, I can barely breathe through my nose, especially in moves like downward dog where my head is hanging down.
Does this mean I'm not getting the full benefit of yoga?

Has your sinus issues improved since going raw.
Are you 100%.
Maybe you could get them cleared up and then the problem will go away.

I'm not 100%. More like around 80%.
Unfortunately, they haven't improved at all since I changed from eating mostly packaged/processed foods to the way I am eating now. I currently use a neti pot to help some, but I'm worried that I will become dependent on it in order to breathe. :-/

Going 100% raw would obviously help but I think possibly even more than that would be to lose the work-related stress you are under.

True. The stress is definitely there. Probably why I can't lose the 10 lbs or so that I'd like to get off.

Yoga will eventually help with your sinues and it doesn't matter that you don't do ujaji breathing (this is only i some styles of yoga, i.e. vinyasa flow) if you can work on normal breathing though the nose without forcing the breath you will be doing yoga brilliantly.

It depends on the type of yoga and also how much weight you have to loose. If you want a really physical workout aim for vinyasa flow, power yoga classes thet will make you sweat! Also yoga works with the mind so you may find that if the actually yoga doesn't make you loose weight it will help mentallyas you will feel great, want to eat healthy foods etc and help with any stresses in your life.
I've found yoga helps to lenghten my muscles and tone and I can't recommende it highly enough - give it a go and see how you feel. You will need to practice regular ideally 2 -3 times a week. Once is great but you will feel much better with 2 times!

I, too, suffer from sinus problems. I did a 10 day juice fast in August and guess what? No sinus congestion whatsoever!!!! First time in years I was free and clear.
Planning another 10 day juice fast later this month. I'll let you know if the results are the same. At the moment I have a horrible sinus infection.(?) Stress?
Off to my first yoga class this morning. Must remember to take kleenex.....
Ciao!

I had the same problem with a clogged nose making it hard to do Yoga and other stretches associated breathing.
When I went 100% raw almost 2 months ago I lost the clogged nose and I've had no trouble breathing since.
Its my understanding that cooked food is treated like an invader by our immune system. We produce mucus from its consumption.

Hi Raynne,
Yoga brings flexibility in body, sooth stress and helps in better breathing so yoga is great for sinus also. Increase water intake as drinking water is a natural way to hydrate the body.
