Do you think they would be useful? I started taking digestive enzymes before dinner and it has helped ease bloating. However, I cannot afford to take them for every meal (Digest Gold ain't cheap). Should I try to find the specific enzyme needed to break down leafy greens and fruits and use a product tailored for this purpose?

It should not be necessary. Green smoothies are semi-digested by the blender and should digest easily. Have you considered that you may not be food combining properly.

I don't use any overt fats in my smoothies. It's just sweet fruit, leafy greens, cucumber, celery. Perhaps I drink them too fast but I always chew before swallowing.

I do wonder if taking in too much air can cause indigestion. My smoothies are always thick so I slurp instead of sip.

It does not sound as if you are doing anything that I do not do myself. I am not perfect in the chewing my smoothies department but `i` do not have digestion problems.
I could make 2 suggestions.
One would be a juice fast.
The other would be to simplify down your smoothies to start and perhaps doing just one fruit and greens and then gradually adding more ingredients as you wish.
My smoothies these days are just greens, celery and either mango or banana or papaya.

I rarely do smoothies but those ingredients sound do good :)

I am getting really great organic romaine in Tesco these days. So happy with that as it is really easy to wash and prep and I am very fussy when it comes to washing my greens.

I'm starting to get most of my greens from the garden which is rather good. I have seen the tesco romaines but I have also made a decision to support the green grocer about 2 miles away. He's very reasonably priced and the quality is good and he opens up at 6am so I can always pop in on my way to work if need be. I got a romaine from him this morning :)

I would make simple green smoothies to start with as Sport suggested. Green smoothies should strengthen your digestion and help to raise HCL over time. I always make my green smoothies at about 6am and drink them at about 10:30am. The air has time to settle out and I like them much better that way. You might try that route too. And yes, always chew your smoothie!
