The VM just lost it's main (and only?) advantage over the BlendTec, they now both have 7 year warranties, so consider that before making your blender purchase. You no longer have to sacrifice the extra features of the BlendTec to get a long warranty.
I doubt it will change much other than BlendTec's sales which is the reason for the change as I haven't heard of many BlendTec failing like you hear about VMs and I'm passed half of 7 years without problems so far and don't expect any problems in the next 3.5 years either.
