PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!
Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!
There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.
And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!
Here's my commitment:
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!
This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!
Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?
Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.
I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.
And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!
So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.
I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

I am starting a 30 day water fast on June 1st. I have been trying to transition to completely raw for almost two years and have been failing miserably! I think I need to do a fast in order to detox and get the cravings under control. I plan to break the 30 day water fast with a 7 day juice fast -- so I may need help with that. Happy drinking everyone!

Hola!
I'm planning on water fasting until June 16th. I'm fasting with my hubby (he's on juice). He's having a severe reaction to a tetanus shot and, of course, the doctors won't hear a thing about it. So, I'm having him fast. I hope and pray this helps him.

Day#2 of juice feasting for me. Not sure how long this is going to go for but so far so good! I am feasting for many reasons one being that my body is asking for it. This is my third fast but the weather and delicious juicy fruits are already making this very easy. Happy to be here with you all.
Have an amazing day, fellow fasters!

I will be starting a 16 day fast tomorrow! I was going to start it today but I figured I would eat light and that way I was not eating heavy meals before a fast. Ill see where I am at when day 16 hits, and if I am still going strong I might go for 19. Just a few days more, I have had dreaded severe eczema for most of my life. Right now I have the worse flare up on my hands and they are next to useless at this point. I believe I have traced the cause to leaky gut syndrome. So we will see if fasting will help.

Day#3 here. Been a tad bit 'short tempered' and emotional LOL :weird This is definitely a different feeling from my past two feasts. Nevertheless, this is the road to bliss. 'All is well' :)
Some friends and I are going tubing/camping this weekend. Not sure how I will pull that off with juices since I cannot take my juicer. I'll make juice before we leave and wing the rest of the weekend. Off to search for Coconuts for the weekend!

Aleesha,
I have been reading the current and past fasting threads in preparation of doing a juice fast. Please advise how you make your tomato juice as I actuallly blew out a bag on trying to make it with the Norwalk. The tomatoes did not go through the Greenstar very well, either. A great success with melon, though--I adore your cantaloupe, mint and ginger juice recipe.

06-04-2011, 02:25 AM
I make the tom juice usually with my champion but... if you put through one or two quarters of tom and then another green or veggie and then another tom... the greenstar will do it. I just use way less toms when I make it in my greenstar.

Hi everyone today is the first day of my 21-30 day water fast. I am new to the forum and in need of some support. I have completed a successful 14 day water fast last july/august. This year has been very difficult though. I can't seem to get back to my raw food. I was doing so so well and them bam I just didn't have the motivation or support to keep going. I try and try to start and complete a fast but seem to fail continuously. It has really been very hard. I'm going backwards and its so strange. I do know that this is the time to fully transform my life for the better or for the worse I must complete this and continue on the path God has chosen for me. So I'm here and I will need some help. Thanks

Aleesha, Thank you so much for the info. I will be making your tomato juice later for my dinner.
I am joining in today for a juice fast until the end of June--maybe beyond.
Several reasons have urged me to welcome this adventure:
Fasting to cleanse my body
Fasting to stabilize my emotions and feel my true feelings
Fasting to grow closer spiritually
Fasting to further regain my bodie's proper balance
Started my day with pineapple, cucumber and ginger juice. Very nice.
Just had some pineapple, apple, lime, ginger, cucumber and beet juice. Have to say this is the first time I have really enjoyed beet in my juice.
So glad to be here.

Up until a week ago I was doing well transitioning to raw -- up to about 80%. I felt really proud and inspired. Then last week we went on a family vacation to Disney and totally regressed. I mean really. So now I feel all bloated, gross and nasty and want to get my system/body/spirit back in line. The problem is I will not be home this coming week - a family member died and I am headed back out of town on Monday. I will be gone for a week. Any suggestions about how to fast while out of town. I don't think it is possible to take my big juicer although I am considering buying a small portable blender for the road. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think if I can figure out how to juice while on the road -- It may be easier to do this while away from my family.
PS going to Chicago and think I will only have one chance to make a grocery store run.
Thanks in advance!
HUGS!

I am starting a juice fast tomorrow. I have been struggling with my diet recently and have gained some weight that makes me very uncomfortable. I am going to fast to get my diet and my emotions back under control! I have tried to do this several times over the past couple of months, but always start eating after a couple days. I have done juice fasts in the past and always feel great. I am determined to make this one work (with y'alls support!) I plan to do this at least for 5 days and the will re-evaluate to see if I feel as if I can go longer. Excited to feel better soon!!

Hello fellow fasters! Glad to see you join in! :throwhearts: Glad everyone is doing well and trucking along. Best of luck to you all in your feasting/fasting journeys for health. :)
Today is day#7 for me and I made it through camping/tubing this weekend. It was a wonderful time and feasting and being outdoors is simply amazing! We ended up staying for an extra day and unfortunately I had only prepared juice for 1 day. I drank water and a bit of cold herbal tea. Props to you all who are water fasting. WHEW. All is well here!

Hi all. Day three started out with grapefruit juice. Need to look for a juice idea that has lots of greens for lunch. So enjoying Aleesa's tomato blend for dinner.
I am only drinking about 3 litres of juice a day and water of course. Will this change as I progress?
Happy juicing.

Hi Everyone,
I'm closing in on day 2 of my juice fast. It's been a while since I've been on this thread, but I always feel so good coming back to it (just like juice fasting)! I'm really spoiling myself this time around with some lovely fresh pressed juices from a local juicery. I also have a massage and colonic scheduled! This makes it even more rewarding to fast and cleanse (and move those toxins out)!
I'm living in Los Angeles now, and I can't get over how common juice fasting is out here. Everybody seems to do it! When I lived in the Northeast, florida, and even Hawaii, I always got the confused and concerned comments, people not understanding how anyone can "not eat" and be healthy. Here, I told a friend I'm juicing and we went out for a juice date (even though he isn't on a fast). I love that there are so many juice bars in my neighborhood and so much acceptance! My husband just completed a 7 day master cleanse, which inspired me to jump back into juicing. I love this light, happy feeling.
The only negative side effects I feel so far is headaches (which is no doubt caffeine withdrawal) and tiredness. I am sleeping soooo so much, even napping, and I'm still tired! I guess the body is healing?
Aleesha, are you fasting right now (or about to)? I've missed you!
Aleesha Sattva
06-07-2011, 10:21 PM
No I'm not. I'm in a space (at this time) where fasting just isn't something I can do. My hubby and I just separated and I'm moving - getting my condo ready to live in etc. Too much going on to start a fast. If I was in one... I could totally continue but I just can't focus on fasting right now.
It'll be awhile before I'm back.

Thanks mystic! It is so helpful to know someone else is going along on the journey with me this week!
It's day 3 and I feel great! I already feel some weight being released! I am wanting to eat, but at least the thoughts are mostly of good healthy food! But the great feeling I have is keeping me centered and on target to finish the week!

I love you guys... thank you so much. I could use some love and support right now. It's a lot to balance every one's needs and take care of myself through all of this. Today I'll be doing a bit of that. I'm off to a crystal shop to soak up some energy and then to a long hot bath in the condo. I painted the bathroom first so I could use the tub LOL
Then... more painting. Faster I get it done the faster I can get the tile guy in and then the carpet people. Should be in the condo in the next two weeks!!!
Yipppeeeee. Fasting will come... until then I'm not gaining weight (this makes me very happy) and I'm feeling good about my new life.

That's great to hear that your are making progress with the condo, not gaining weight, and feeling more comfortable. And it's very good that you are taking some time out today to take care of yourself! It's not easy to find that time, but oh so important. I'm sure this is a painful and stressful transition... but it is a brand new chapter, a new start, a fresh life. We all love you very, very much!
Today is the beginning of day 4 for me and this is a very easy fast so far. No hunger pangs or food cravings. The worst was the caffeine withdrawal headaches, and that's done now. I am really quite content. I think this fast was at a perfect time for me... I didn't have to force myself into it, it just naturally happened. I had a lot of energy yesterday and found it hard to sleep. Today I am having some radiating kind of back pain, and I wonder if my kidneys and liver are releasing some toxins? Either way, I'm about to have a strenuous day at work, so I hope for the best!
How is everyone else doing?

Hi all. Day 1 again for me with strenghtened fortitude, more awareness to being better prepared, and better deflect the current stressors in my life.
Love starting my day with grapefruit juice--am enjoying some now. Seems I have not tired of this juice for quite awhile.
I like variety, too so want to make the effort to rotate between some of the wonderful combos that have been shared in these fasting threads.
A couple other recent favs are the pineapple with cucumber (I plan to expand that one today to include cilantro, a bit of shallot or garlic, ginger and a touch of jalapeno or cayenne). I also adore Aleesha's tomato blend and have played with that a little for variety--adding cucumber juice one day, red bell or beet another. Fun and tasty experiments.:8
Hope you all have a great juice-filled day.

A very nice day off today and leisure to make juices all day--which I did. As stated earlier, started the day with grapefruit juice. Had an early lunch pineapple cucumber. Later afternoon was my first really 'green' drink since starting--kind of a kitchen sink juice with carrots, cucumber, yellow beet, red beet, red bell, ginger, lime, asparagas, celery, and a nice amount of greens from my garden--chard, turnip greens, dino kale, reg. kale and collards. Forgot to put in onion or garlic but it was good. Had dinner later of tomato combo with heirlooms, celery. zucchini (also from garden), cucumber, shallot, garlic, lime and added smoked paprika, kelp, chipolte, curry and some celtic sea salt.
Cannot believe I had all that juice today! Found the beets were very cleansing. Note to self to use less for awhile.
Hope you all had a great juicy day.
GoodCat, looking forward to you joining back in next week.

Cathy, I'm glad you'll be fasting with us too. I'm pretty bad about checking in and haven't been here a lot lately. I just have SO much on me. And it doesn't help that hubby brought home a puppy two weeks ago tonight, without telling me he was going to do this! Insert crazy smilie. He works at night so guess who gets to get up in the middle of the night to crate train her? Yes, that would be me.
Lady Green, that juice you were describing sounds absolutely heavenly! And all from your heirloom garden! Oh yum. This is my first year to garden and it's taking me forever. I'm late doing it. I'm doing an organic heirloom one too. I think I may be to late getting in my rainbow chard but will have to see. Anyway, so glad to hear your fast is coming along well and it sounds like you are getting some very good quality produce in you. Yea!
I would love to find some local watermelon that is organic with seeds. I planted some, but again,...did so very late so hopefully it will grow in to some good watermelons. It's very exciting to start growing our own food. Finally!
Cathy, I'm going to email you sometime in the future about those spices. It's that whole, have to much on my plate that leaves me frozen that has gotten in my way. If I can just knock a few big things out, I will order those yummy spices and things for my family. Once I figure out what to order. I may have a few more questions for you when I do. :)

beauty4ashes, Really enjoying the juices. Heirloom tomatoes aren't from my garden yet. Will be coming, though as I put in 6 tomato plants! The greens and zucchini are. Have lots of other things growing but, like you, got mine planted kind of late. Have raised bed sqare foot gardens (3 that are 4x4).
Will be heading south this morning and then stopping at the farmers' mkt heading back home. Not needing too much as I still have a stockpile of on sale $.99 pineapples I am so joyfully working my way through. Also picked up an organic seeded watermelon that I want to open today. I just adore all the summer fruits.
Will catch up later and post today's juice lineup. Enjoying my a.m. grapefruit juice now.
Hope you all have a great juice-filled day.

You aren't the only one fasting, I'm still going! Day 6 today. I haven't been checking in too much. I'm feeling great so far! Day 4 was a heavy detox day, but other than that I'm still going strong. I work a double shift today, so i feel super tired. So far have had some fresh apple juice and a greens and ginger juice from the juice bar.
I'm craving that pineapple/cilantro/cucumber juice you speak of! I once did a fast last year where I obsessed over cilantro. I couldn't get enough of it in my juice. That sounds amazing!

Forgive me from detracting from the real purpose of the thread, but since having been a part of the fasting circle of friends in the past, and knowing how spiritual you all are, and that we are often more in tune with the powers that be while fasting, I want to ask......
Would you please include Flagler County, Florida in your thought and prayers? The brush/wildfire situation is still looming large and we are in need of much rain. Evacuation orders could very well go out if the winds pick up and shif directions before things are under control. Flyers advising of potential evacuation orders were just about to be handed out by the police to citizens on the roadways when one major fire rekindled and caused the officers to be dispatched elsewhere.
The wind is picking up as I type, but fortunately it is blowing toward less populated areas. It may be blowing rains clouds away as well so it's a double edged sword. As of my friday inquiry at some of the fire response team staging stations, no firefighters have been admitted to hospitals or hurt in this immediate area.
Thank you very much for your time, thoughts, and prayers. I hope and pray you will all achieve the things you desire during your fasts and gain great health and spiritual improvements as well.
Sincere thanks and much love, on behalf of the rest of Flagler County and Palm Coast
Ronnie (aka streetsurfer/strider)
p.s. maybe it's best if we don't take up much space with replies and lengthy discussion regarding this so as not to detract from the threads purpose. If you will instead take one minute to consider through prayer and positive energy, those who are working hard at saving lives and property here, I have faith it will have a positive impact. Thank you kindly! Thank you Aleesha for allowing me to post.
p.p.s. If you'd like to follow the reports to see how your prayers are helping, you can go to the palm coast observer or flagler county emergency services websites. I am two/three miles from the white eagle fire.

Day 8 . Feeling great! Today is the first time I have some slight hunger pangs. I've been working a LOT these past few days, as a server I'm running around for 8 hours nonstop... so it's been pretty exhausting. I don't get a break to drink juice (nor is there a way for me to bring some and store it at work). Normally I feel like I need to eat in order to up my energy for work, but in this case I have just been drinking more juice before and after my shift. My goal is to make it to day 10 (wed) or day 12 (fri).

Day four for me. Feeling very good physically. Mentally it seems I already have a little more clarity. With the start of the new week, I am determined to be prepared--brought two kinds of juices to get me through the 9-hour workday--carrot, apple with ginger and a pineapple cucumber with cilantro. For now am going with the pint jar method that I saw on here instead of the Stanley thermoses I bought and see how that goes. Thought that might be the edge to ensure the juice stays as fresh as possible.
NYbutterfly, Lady Laka is a nice name. I picked Lady Inslet. Do you by chance know how to add these to the profile?

Ronnie, I will certainly pray for your community. It looks like the evacuations are not needed at this time but that drift smoke and ash fall are a concern.
Not good. Between the tornadoes across the country and the drought in the south, this has been a trying year for many.
Lady Laka you are doing great! I can imagine it can be quite a challenge being a server while fasting. But you are doing so good! :cheer:
Lady Green Jeans, you're doing fantastic too! Woo Hoo! You're emerald green drink sounds delicious. I may have to try celery ginger, greens, and apple.
To add your name, which is what I still need to do (once I go back and find my name)you click on User CP in the green bar towards the left side of the page and then click edit signature. I think that's what you do.
No, you're not alone in this fast. I'm here too, and I think Lady Aredhel was planning to start today. Cathy-Goodcat are ya here with us?
I've had strawberry, blueberry, orange juice so far and am about to go make a sprout juice drink with ginger lemon, cuke, and apple. I have not been able to find any lambsquarters around my house so my neighbor gave me some of hers. I have it planted now but wish I would have picked all the leaves off it before they started to wilt. I've never juiced lambsquarters but I understand they are very nutritious and I love that free factor about them.

beauty4ashes..... Again...WOW!! I'm so happy for you. You have an amazing story. I really believe you will reach your goal. Have you experienced any health benefits, weight loss, ect. so far??
I do feel somewhat defeated in trying to eat/drink the way I need to to experience health, but stories like yours and Aleesha's really do encourage me to keep going forward!! Thank you!
Blessings,
Cathy
Thanks for being happy for me! :hug I have experienced health benetifts and weight loss. I haven't had any real serious health issues to overcome but little things like joint pain in my hands and a sore foot have gone away. It just feels so good to not have to carry around all that weight anymore! Mainly, I just feel better about that, and that is huge, since I was HUGE. I'm almost at my prebaby weight. My goal is to keep it between 103-107. I don't know what I started at. I chose not to weigh myself and it's been years since I've even looked since it would have discouraged me to get on the scales. Let's just say I was in fear of being harpooned if I went to the beach.
came back to edit because I KNEW I left something out. I had two kids around me chatting and moved on to Aleesha's post before finishing what I wanted to say to you.
Cathy, I am very familiar with the feeling of defeat in trying to reach my goals. I was overweight for as long as I've been a mother, when I was expecting my first child.
That was over 12 years ago. Fasting helps. I love something that Stormie Omartian said in one of her books,... it was somthing to the effect of, the quickest way to bring an out of control appetite, back under control is by fasting. We know from experience that it's true. Hunger can be an issue for sure. But I just tell myself, yes I'm hungry and I like it. :) You will reap those rewards if you can push thru the hunger and cravings. I also like what Aleesha said about not quitting her fast for emotional reasons or cravings. Remember she says, she won't break her fast because of an impulse, (ok those aren't the exact words, I'm parapharasing here) but she doesn't break it at night and tells herself she can break it in a day or two if she still feels the need. I think that's good to keep in mind.
Anyway, I know you will reach your health goals because you are NOT giving up! You keep coming back to fast. Plus, you look pretty healthy and vibrant to me. It's not like you have a long way to go, friend. You most certainly are not obese. And to anyone who does have a lot of weight to release or lose, however you want to say it, don't give up. You can do it!
from Aleesha: (end of May thread)
"I had no idea you were that deep into your fast. I would have loved to have heard more about your experience since you are the longest faster I've known! You are inspiring me to do another long fast but I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do at this point. I have some major life changes happening and I'm not sure if I want to fast through them or eat. Probably fast though... knowing me LOL
dancing, twirling and feeling so good with these antibiotics in me. I had forgotten how clear urine can be! although mine is neon yellow... but it's clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
Well, I'm not going anywhere, I plan to keep in touch with ya'll and stay close to my beloved fasting thread...so I'll share whatever I can. I want to talk to you to because you're the longest faster I've ever known and the inspiration for me to go this far. First Aleesha, when you get a chance, please let us know to what extent you're comfortable sharing....how you're doing. You are on my heart. I tread lightly when I say this cuz I don't want to butt in to your marriage or personal life, especially here on a public website. But I do want to say again, there is always hope for a marriage. There is help to be found. I can imagine you've been very distraught so, sending a big comforting protective hug your way. How is the painting going?
AND, how is your bladder? Oh my gosh, hows that for a personal question.
Sorry, just know I'm thinkin bout cha and care.

beauty4ashes... You are always so very encouraging and uplifting!! Thank you.
I did want to fast, but we've had a little financial step back. My hubby took a new job (which is great), but his old job didn't pay us for 2 weeks of work (which is a good amount). They said no one ever requested a final paycheck :confused So tomorrow they will continue to work on it and figure out when we will get paid. So until I have the money, I can't buy any groceries for eating or juicing.

A little update on me... not fasting... sooooooooooooo want to fast but unfortunately living in a tiny RV at the moment and doing renovations on the condo isn't creating an atmosphere where I can fast.
My weight has gone up a tiny bit... I'm not pleased. ugh. Anyway... I want to fast, get clear and focused and feel that lovely zone again...

I'm closing in on day 9 now. Today was... wow, lots of hunger and boy was I cranky! My poor hubby had to put up with me... just kept reminding me to "drink my juice and I'll feel better". He's an experienced faster so it's nice that he understands :)
I was originally going to stop at day 10 but now I'm definitely going for an extra day or two. I have a busy schedule and I don't like to break fasts when my mind and body are rushed and stressed.

NYbutterfly, Nice post. I am so glad to be here, too. It sure does feel like the spot to be for awsome support and feedback.
I believe this is my day 6. I'm finding making juices in the evening takes a true commitment. I had a late evening yesterday and got home too late to make Aleesha's tomato blend--quite addicting so I know I will be enjoying it tonight. Have been making a variety to bring to work and happy to report have not struggled at all or had any major cravings or hunger to deal with.
I have been gassy the last two days so I don't know where that is coming from.
I have been working my way through a list I made from some of the older threads and most have been quite good. I have been getting comments on my how nice my skin looks, which is really nice to hear.
Hope you are all having a great raw day.

streetsurfer, ya'll stay safe. I was just reading again about the fires again. I'm sad for Florida and hope they get it under control.
Goodcat, sorry ya'll are having to deal with getting your husband's paycheck that he worked hard to earn. That's really good news that he has a new job though.
Aleesha, don't worry about the tiny bit of weight gain, the precious is waiting for you. So glad you'll be in possession of your juicers again so you can get back in the zone!
Mysticshore, NYbutterfly, and Lady Greenjeans, awesome job on the fasting!
I am in awe at your commitment to fasting and how you are able to do it while you work!
Today is day 200 for me. I was going to stop my fast when I reached this point but I don't want to now. I have a few stressful things I'm dealing with and once I get those out of the way, I'll feel more like ending my fast then.
I agree NYbutterfly, I want to break my fast when I'm more at peace. I just can't do it when I'm stressed! I'm enjoying my fast and don't really want to come off of it. Maybe I'll break it when the locally grown organic watermelon is ready.
Oh, I do have a nice ripe pineapple, strawberries, and oranges. Maybe I'll make some of that!
I love your siggy line, LGJ...it's so true and good to keep in mind.
Aleesha, you wrote a beautiful statement on what fasting is. You should post it again when you get a chance. I think it would encourage all the fasters and get you in fasting mode quick!

I haven't been here in some time and recently came to the conclusion that it is the raw food I have eaten in the past that made me feel so great. I want to fast then go into my raw diet. I need to lose a lot of weight and have had problems with food allergies. I am planning to start friday night and go until wednesday. Just about five days. I will be using mostly water and some juice. I might do all water on tuesday because it is my day off from my job and I want to see how I do with water alone.
I haven't had a chance to read too many of the previous posts yet, but I am happy to join all of you. :throwhearts:

The sig line was from a comment someone here made years ago and it so resonated with me I had to use it as a gentle reminder to self. Some days it becomes a mantra. :)
Wow! to the 200 days. You have made an amazing journey. Have you tracked your fast on a blog?

Hi all...I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been perusing these forums for a while but finally decided to join today.
I have been thinking about juice fasting for the longest time, but never had the will power or determination. I'm hoping by joining this forum and actually stating as fact that I will be fasting, I will now have what it takes!
So, today is Day 1 of my planned 14 day Juice Fast. I'll be juicing mostly greens, with a little bit of fruit (1 piece) each time to make the juice a little more palatable. Eventually I hope to be juicing just greens. Here goes nothing!

Just a quick follow up question: What are people's views regarding supplementation during a juice fast?
For example, I am currently taking a B-complex vitamin as well as some Flax seed oil. Is this technically 'cheating' on a fast? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome Kid and Stawberry!
Beauty, wow 200 days?! I can't even imagine how that feels! Congratulations!
Aleesha, good to hear you checking in and so glad that the condo is moving along!
Today is day 11. I've already gone an extra day from what I planned. I remember my first fast ever I planned on 8 days and went 25. When it feels right, you gotta go with the flow! I do plan on breaking it tomorrow though. I'm visiting my family in a week from today for 8 days and need to prepare my body to eat solids again. My family, while loving and supportive, are sensitive to my juice fasting. Plus, I feel 100% ready to start a journey of healthy raw eating again!
I'll keep checking in! Love to you all!

Welcome Kid, Some supplement and some use a bit of oil on top of their juices occasionally from what I've read. Lots of great info on the sticky thread from Aleesha. Check it out.
NYbutterfly, Congratulations on reaching your goal. Awsome to instinctively know when to break the fast and honor your body. Glad you will be looking in occasionally.
Today is day 7 for me. Clarity is coming to me and is so welcome. Also so thankful to not be struggling. Have been preparing plenty of juices so prepared for each day. My consumption seems to be decreasing over the last couple days so just going with what my body says.
So glad to be here.
Hey ladies! I just ended a four day water/master cleanse fast with 10 ozs of the most beautiful orange juice I have ever tasted. I could not stomach the lemonade and the water fast left me to tired to play with my three little ones. Oh street, I hope you get your juicer replaced fast! How sad that your juicer finally gave up the ghost. If you have a nut milk bag and a good blender, maybe doing it that way can carry you a bit till you get it replaced? I do hope you find something soon. Let us know when you do!
Strawberry, Kid, and jma, welcome! We're happpy you're here too! Jma, awesome job on your lemonade and water fast! And don't worry about not posting much. We love hearing from you, but there are no "shoulds" here. When I read Aleesha tell someone to post as much or as little as they want, I needed to hear that.
Because I'm an introvert, and like Aleesha does (although she does not seem like an introvert to me, she can be very effervesant and animated)but she said sometimes when she's deep in to her fast, she just pulls in to herself and away from the world. Don't let me put words in your mouth Aleesha, I never can remember exactly word for word when I try to quote her.
Anyway, I did the same thing on this fast. I knew I needed time away in order for me to heal so I just was a long for the ride here. I wasn't here all the time lurking away but I did draw a lot of encouragement from the words spoken here.
Strawberry I know you can do this. I also had a lot of weight to lose. I think your plan will be a great jumping off place for getting back in to raw. If you haven't been getting a lot of nutrients in your body or have been living on extreme junk/SAD food,...it might be a little rough to do water for that day.
But everyone's different and hopefully you're not starting in as bad a place as I did.
Yes Kid, as Lady Green Jeans said, supplementing is good. You're doing so well LGJ, I'm glad you're not struggling too.
Butterfly great job fasting. I know you feel better too! And have a fun and safe trip when you go visit your family. How wonderful that you have a family that cares so much about you.
beauty.... wow wow wow congratulations and wow. i'm soooo blissing for ya... so blissing. i did 209 days... you should try to go to 210 at the least... not that it's a competition but i'd love to share that with you... have you surpass my personal longest.

welcome strawberry!!!
Awww. Thanks so much Aleesha. That is so sweet. Yes, I should be blissing too and I am about the fast and weight loss, but for some reason I've had really really bad depression lately. I know it's temporary and these things will pass. As to surpassing your personal longest, I want to say, no way! I'll stop at day 209 too, so we can be the same. :heart I never EVER would have gone this long had I not logged on here and found you.
Then I realized it's never good to set things in stone. Like if I'm in a stressed out place and am afraid I'll go down that slippery slope because I'm struggling or don't have good organic food, (I don't want to be disappointed with when I end a 209 day fast!...I may go past day 209, just to be on the safe side. Which is pretty much why I extended my fast past 200. My longest fast before this was 56 days. That was back in 2005. Right when hurrican Rita was blowin thru Houston! It was scary. And guess what? 2 weeks after breaking that fast I was way off track! I KNEW I had to get off of it slowly but it is just. so. hard.!
I won't go in to details cuz we're in this thread here but it really came down to me not having food in my stomach for 8 weeks and then when I ate something, it felt like a rock in my stomach and I felt HORRIBLE.
So stuffed. ugh. So, that frustrated me. I just somehow lost it all and before you know it, my neighbor was bringing me leftovers from a big party and I was eating junk again. :( So I gained that 50 lbs back and then some.
I sure don't want to repeat that again. Not after working so hard this time.
Sorry for the ramble...am going to bed now. If I can sleep! I have a bad patch of poison ivy on my side. I hope it goes away soon. I want to feel good when I end my fast.

Anyway, not feeling hungry today and am sipping me juice, as i found when i drank it fast i felt quite light headed. i am not sure about how much water to drink too, as i don't tend to get thirsty. Am quite worried with juice fast as i have not done one before and i don't trust my common sense! Anyway, will be having another juice in a while.

Today is day 21 and I feel miserable. My mum said I look worse-paler, sicker looking. I am anemic to begin with. Should I stop juice fasting? I initially planned for 30 days of juice fasting but all I can see is my condition getting worse.
Good morning ladies! Day 7 of this fast and sitting here sippin on some straight up OJ. Probably will have OJ again tonight and then start branching out and mixing it up tomorrow.

Hi there,
I am on a trip to Europe and my husband decided to do his first juice fast. He called me today and he is very sick. He throws up, his body aches, kinda flu symptoms, some headaches too. He is on day 5 and was hoping to feel better by now. I have a hard time telling him what this could be because I have not ever had any detox symptoms after 3 days. I told him he would feel great after that but obviously that is not the case? Anybody has any experience with this? I would just like to keep supporting him even though it's just by phone and email.
I will be joining all of you again as soon as I come back because my new juicer is waiting for me!
Thanks all, I love you and miss fasting with you!

Thanks Aleesha!
Luckily it's weekend now so he can rest a little. He has a very demanding job so I'm pretty sure that if it's still the same on Monday he'll stop fasting. So I actually hope he will be able to work through it and feel the good things I am always talking about :))
I am very proud of him and he completely surprises me. He is a big coffee drinker and he daily drinks alcohol. Which probably also explains the heavy detox symptoms. But I seriously never expected him to start fasting and actually follow through with it. I love him!
Apart from drinking lots of water is there anything else anybody can suggest to work through the detox?

i'm on day 1 of my first juice fast (only ever done 1-2 days of green smoothies). i'm feeling a little tired but i suspect it's from a busy weekend, and not the fast.
i feel like i'll be doing lots of green juices - they're my favorite juices and also seem to agree with my body best. my goal is to fast through this week and see how i feel. headed out grocery shopping tonight so i can take advantage of the recipes thread!

quinielong, I don't know about fasting and anemia. You did good to go as long as you did, though. If you google it, maybe you can find specific things that others do to give them the support they need or at your next dr.'s visit, ask them about it? That's if you have a good dr. who won't automatically think you're nuts for fasting.
Hanneke, I hope your husband is doing better too. I know it can get rough. I remember fasting years ago, and throwing up a lot. Ugh. My boyfriend at the time, was out of town and came back to find me so so sick. Weak, clamy, shakey, and miserable,...unable to even get up and make myself juice. He was a health care practitioner and I remember him saying something about how he thought I was throwing up bile. I'm sure if your husband drinks daily, his liver was doing quite a cleansing. I hope he doesn't get to discouraged about fasting.
Lady Green Jeans, I hope you get this job if it seems like a good fit for you. Good job on the fast!!! 10 days is enough to make ya feel great isn't it? And yes, being prepared is so essential to getting where we want to be.
Kelleh, welcome to the fasting thread. We're glad you're here. :) That's awesome green juices are your fav.

beauty4ashes, Thank you for the well wishes. The interview went well. Lots of prayer in this so if it is for me, it will be. I cannot believe how fast these days have gone and I have not struggled. Your fast is truly incredible!
Today was an assortment of juices--more green this go around. I picked a bunch of greens from my garden and put all of them in with carrot, celery and cucumber. Tasted pretty green! I drank it all, though--thinking a gold star should be stuck somewhere for that effort. :)
Wanting to look up some recipes for celery root and a few different ones for fennel. Got a good price on both and thought they would be a nice change from the regular. Still addicted to the tomato blend for dinner most every night.
Hope you all had a great raw day.

Joining in tomorrow with a Master Cleanse fast. Actually, technically, that would be "today" as it's the wee hours of the morning, :::::wink:::::.
I've been dealing with some really huge life issues for about a month now, the most recent of which derailed me two weeks ago (see the MC thread). There is a lot of very big unavoidable emotional pain in my life right now, and a need to just let it all go. I like the allegorical symbolism in fasting during this difficult season an letting it go from my gut, from my cells, from my mind, which is prone these days to fall into circular thinking patterns.
Seems appropriate to anchor myself like the roots of a tree physically and spiritually on this summer solstice.

thanks, beauty4ashes :) i'm happy to be here!
well, day 2 is about halfway through and i've got to say i'm feeling pretty good! i haven't been wanting nearly as much juice as i thought i would, though i've been enjoying the juice i do have. i'm feeling a little spacey and have a cottony mouth, though.
my sleep the past two nights has been awful. but even with very few hours of sleep between the two nights, i don't feel as exhausted as i normally would. i feel like my body was really ready for this and my mind is taking it pretty well too :) food hasn't been much of a thought, and when it was today, it was easy to identify that i wasn't actually hungry - it was the point in the day where work slowed down and i got a little bored. i thought points like that would be really hard for me, but i just kind of shrugged, like, oh, neat. i know all of this may change but i'm loving it all at the moment!
i hope you've all had a great day!

Day 12 and doing well. This juice fast has been nothing short of amazing to me. I love the feelings of being in my body and all the feelings that are surfacing.
Made a great discovery yesterday that almost equals Aleesha's tomato blend. I was thinking about what kind of juice to make and remembered one of my favorite summer recipes--cucumber gazpacho, but juiced! Well, I left out the nuts and oil and it was incredible. It is a must make and often.

Oh you so deserve a gold star. for drinking the ultra green drink. I had one of those early on in my fast. I choked it down but decided I can't do them when they are THAT green. I don't do well with kale.
Wow though. Greens from your garden must be so yummy. I know kale would taste so much better right out of the garden.
I hope you get this job! That would be awesome. :) Prayers going up for you to get your hearts desire.
D'vorah, I'm glad your headaches and cravings are only slightly bothersome but may they leave you soon! Keep doing this in baby steps and you will find that freedom thru fasting. I can SO relate to every word you said in your previous post! I have been going thru some very difficult emotional times as well. That is why I didn't want to end my fast when I had planned to, a few days ago. I just did not want to end it in the midst of all this turmoil. I want to be happy and really enjoy the freedom from what the fast accomplished.
Lady Green Jeans, about your gazpacho. That's what I do too! I call it my veggie drink.
What do you put in yours?
This is what I do and I've had this drink almost every night on this fast.
cherry tomatoes
cucumber
celery
sunflower sprouts or broccilli, radish and alfalfa or sometimes I throw them all in
two peppers, yellow, red, and or orange
carrots
purple onion
garlic
lemon
cilantro
hemp oil
himilayen sea salt
red curry spice
and cayenne pepper
It is very good and satisfying.

beauty4ashes, Wow, your drink sounds really good. Will definately have to try that one. Aww, thank you for the gold star (proudly prancing around wearing it).
I used the Raw Food Real World's recipe but not nuts or oil. Two nice size pineapples, 1 and 1/2 hothouse cucumber, 1 jalapeno (removed seeds and most of ribs), piece of shallot the size of a green onion or just use a green onion if you have, and a nice handful of cilantro. I put the lime on the side in case I wanted it but haven't used it yet. Seriously addicted to this. This made 4 pints and I drank them all throughout the day.
D'vorah, I didn't get any cravings on the MC, either. Broke it only because I missed the chewing on something. I remember after 3 days it was a lot easier.

What is it about fasting that makes me want to clean everything on the outside of me too? Just got through cleaning out a pantry and a nasty fridge cleaning up spills of everyone else's food that I don't even eat.

Starting day five of my master cleanse. Yesterday was a tough detox day, bad dreams last night abuot real-time issues (really heavy ones) that are stacking up in my life.
I've had some cravings, but for whatever reason, my cravings smaller and are much more maneagable when I MC than when I'm just attempting 100% raw. Late afternoon / early evening cravings for baaaaaad stuff is overwhelming when I'm shooting for 100% rwaw, no matter how much I eat during the day.
I don't know if that's a mental / psychological thing or a physical one. I'd love to be able to unpack that. . . .
Feel a little better today, but weak. I hope I can carry out my plans for the day - it's time for the Highland Games, but it involves a bit of a walk . . . .

Glad to see everyone still here. I am so amazed to be on day 16 of my juice fast. Have gone through several layers of emotion and so many things have surfaced in my thoughts. I have been pondering that and figure it is the perfect opportunity to forgive it and release it. Very freeing.
I felt sensitive about making sure I always have juice available, but the last two days I took plenty of water with me on my shopping and errands and was just fine. That also feels soo good.

Hi everyone. I'm kind of new to the forum. It's so encouraging to read about everyone's experiences with fasting.
I'm finishing day five of the master cleanse. I have heartburn tonight, not sure why- maybe too much cayenne in my last drink. I am loving the cayenne.
My daughter and I went to a store and they were cooking something, not even sure what it was, but it smelled amazing... even though I wouldn't have eaten that kind of food, even if I wasn't fasting. I was disappointed in myself for even finding the smell good. I wouldn't have caved over it, but it still made me feel uncomfortable with my thoughts. I guess it's all part of the process. :/
I've water fasted many times before and I juice a lot, but this is my first time on the master cleanse. I'm amazed at the cravings I've been having on it. I never had them on water fasts.
I am hoping to go to a juice feast when I'm done with the master cleanse, but it will depend on the drama in my home at the time. :heart

Adobe!!! As you know, I'm finishing up day five of MC as well.
I have a different take on the smelling of foods than you do. There is much pleasure to be had in life, drinking in beauty through our senses - the sight of an eagle riding the thermals above a serene lake, beautiful flowers (both visually and fragrance), the taste of a sweet, fresh, juicy peach, lovely music . . .
One of the lessons Master Cleanse has given me is that I can enjoy food wtihout consuming it. I went to the Highland Games today and was surrounded by kinds of meat based foods I haven't eaten in years, but I have to admit that I do still enjoy the smell. But I don't have to have it.
That hasn't translated to all non-raw foods for me (yet), but I hope to get there.
Don't beat yourself up, you've got five whole days under your belt, congratulations!

Thanks, Deborah. :)
You have wise words. I do struggle with enjoying life just to enjoy it. Seems like I always have to pursue a goal or become obsessed with some sort of perfection. It does make it hard to enjoy the moment. Thank you for your encouragement. I will definitely work on relaxing a bit. :heart
Heading into day six of the master cleanse. The salt water flush awaits me. In the beginning, I thought that even by the end, I would hate the salt water flush, but it's not so bad anymore. :excited:

Not sure my post was clear. By this, I meant, while I can enjoy being around but not consuming foods on MC, I don't do as well on raw. Through the day, yes, but late afternoon and evening, the lesson of MC hasn't yet translated to raw life where I can be around unhealthful foods and enjoy the smell but not have them. It especially applies to packaged junk foods.
Starting day six.
Expecting to hear tomorrow from Assisted Living as to whether or not Dad's going to sign the paperwork to move, then I'll decide how far MC is going to be able to take me.

Phew, what a day. It's like I felt every emotion about 100 times more intense. I quit the fast about 10 times in the space of 4 hours, but I didn't actually do anything other than say I'm done, lol.
Day six is done, thankfully. This fast has been an emotional one for sure. I have never experienced this on water fasts or juice fasts.

Me too, Adobe, onn both counts. I like your name, by the way.
I had some surprising clarity with regard to how things are playing out with Dad, and the spiritual / healing implications for me. God's a mystery. Good stuff.

So, it's looking increasingly likely that I'll be moving my father, which makes an extended MC far more challenging. I'm sure it theoretically could be done while traveling, but it's many hours of travel and no way to carry product through security, plus the awkwardness of dealing with it while taking my father to restaurants, so . . . .decision made . . .
I'm going to finish up the full ten days of MC, and do a July challenge.
It's been hard making the decision. MC is actually far easier for me than raw at home.

Starting day 8 and feeling crummy. I usually have a detox day around this time, so, no surprise.
Thinking I'll hit the grocery and fire up the dehydrator for some post-fast snacks.

Hope everything goes well with your father D'vorah.
Will write more later; heading out.
On day 8. After day 6, things seem to be smooth sailing here. Physically feeling well and emotionally stable, lol.
Do you guys notice as you gain more clarity and awareness that everyone around you moves and thinks slowly? Been experiencing that a lot the last couple days.

Well... I'm leaving town with my kiddos to visit my sister for 2 weeks. When we get back my hubby and I are going to do a 10 day fast/cleanse. So I'll be seeing you all soon...

Adobe, glad you're experiencing such clarity. I'm much better this afternoon, just a tiny little detox this AM.
I'm gearing up for breaking the fast, looking forward to a challenge I'm doing on another site.
Cat, happy travels, and hope your fast is as good as mine has been!

GoodCat, Good luck when you do it. :)
Thanks, D'vorah. I'm sorry you aren't able to do it as long as you wanted, but I'm glad you will have the 10 days. I was thinking about dehydrating some things but I'm not sure my will power would be strong enough to resist them after the fast. I want to give myself a good 3 or 4 days to get back on solid food. :excited:
I used to do a detox drink every morning that consisted of apple juice, apple cider vinegar (with the mother in), cayenne, ginger, garlic, and olive oil. I think I worked my way up to a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of oil and the garlic up to 5 cloves (and then stayed at 5) and the ginger, can't remember, up to a good spiciness. The cayenne I used drops and worked my way on on that as well, but can't remember how many I used. I do remember it was pretty potent. I just blended it up in the blender. I used to crave that drink when I didn't have it.
I think I'm going to start that again. I don't have cayenne drops at the moment though so I'm just going to put the powder in. It seems to work fine with the master cleanse so I think it should be okay for now.
I have these mixed feelings at the moment. My brain has definitely slowed down as far as emotions (that was quite a ride), and seems to be going into more of a contemplative state- kind of like it sounds like yours is doing D'vorah. In the past, I haven't done so well with that state of being as it brings up a lot of past experiences that weren't all that pleasant. This time, I seem to be okay with it and am sitting with it. Maybe I'm progressing. :throwhearts:

Adobe, I've done a lot of self-healing work on past garbage, if you want to chat about that in another thread.
I'm thinking I'll do a once a week one-day fast while doing the raw challenge, just to keep me in the mind-set more. I'm so prone to slipage.
My dehydrated goodies are probably going to get shoved in Tupperwares for the upcoming trip, if that does happen. So, I'm not tempted, they are for later. Besides, garlic kale chips would be a horrid way to break a fast.
I'm going to break fast with watermelon or orange juice day one, green smoothies day two.
Good stuff here.

Thanks for replying, D'vorah. It's hard stuff, but I'm more ready to process than in the past so I might be able to do that. :)
I was thinking about doing one-day a week fasting as well. I do well with eating raw foods, but I was wondering if a one-day fast each week would help me with the emotional eating (albeit raw) aspect of things and keep me more focused.
The grocery store here has watermelon on sale. Daughter and I bought 4 of them. I can't wait to juice them. I haven't decided whether to juice oranges or watermelon the first day. I bought oranges as well. Right now I'm leaning toward juicing oranges on the first day and watermelon on the second and then adding some green juices either the second evening or the third day. It's making my mouth water, lol. :)

On day 9. Have to say, I will be glad when day 10 is over. Rough night for some reason. Today is better. I am amazed at the people who do this cleanse for 21 days or 40 days. This was much harder overall for me than a water fast. I definitely want to do it again, and perhaps longer, but I am looking forward to being done with this one. :heart

Adobe, for whatever reason, I have tough days around day four and around 8-9. I guess that's how my body schedules detox.
I was going to go ahead and re-feed today in preparation for the upcoming challenge, but I just don't feel ready after all, so, I guess someone else will have to eat the fruit I bought. :-)
Still no word on travel plans from the other end, so, I guess I'll go day by day now.
So, off to the store for lemons. Silly me.
