Suitably galvanised by Mr Raw's awesome pictures of sprouted rice, I have set a jar to sprout (after first soaking overnight).

This is day two of rinsing 2-3 times a day. So far nothing so I am hoping I got the right rice! If not, my bf will eat it cooked and I will source something more suitable. I know I am being impatient and that rices takes more than two days to sprout in these cool conditions.

I'm longing to know what it tastes like and how it is texturally. With just a teeny root tip showing, will it be a good bulgar wheat substitute in Tabbouleh for example. I am doubly excited if it is! I am hoping for something that is al dente and satisfying/filling because the weather has turned chilly.

just had a text message from home saying the rice is sprouting ... I really wasn't expecting it to be that quick!

Mr Raw, if you are reading this ... do you keep your rice in the dark?

l have never come to this section before but l am here.

Sprout rice in the dark for 7 days, maybe even less is it's a warm week. lt's easy to get impatient with rice but stick with it.

lf the bf won't eat raw rice, steam it for him for only a short time. Try 5 minutes, if it is still too hard try steaming for slightly longer.

Luckily bf likes it as it happens :)

The next batch is coming along and I will try not to eat it quite so quickly this time and so give it at least another two days sprouting time!

Hi All,

First post. I am on a master cleanse right now and am going to take the plunge to fully raw when I get off it. I am wondering if rice that is soaked overnight but not sprouted is bad for you. I have looked all over the net and can't really find anything. I know that the enzyme that rice has is taken away when it sprouts but I like the texture of the soaked rice and it seems a lot easier than waiting a few days and all the work of sprouting.

Yes, I am lazy about cooking. Thanks...Ian

I don't know is the honest answer. It would be too hard for me. I might try that russetty-red-brown rice next.

I am going to try this when my wheatgrass is done sprouting, looks like fun!

I found that as the weather warmed up and the sprouting of the grains generated heat, they needed much more frequent rinsing. Next time I will use half the amount in the same very large jar.
