I have a water filter system at home, and because I'm renting I have opted for the ones that sit on top of the kitchen sink, so I can take it with me should I move elsewhere. The only problem is, my filter doesn't remove fluroide, just found out that a reverse osmosis would be a better option but the salesperson said you should only purchase one of those if you are seriously ill, therefore on diaylsis machine due to kidney failure etc. I'm really confused because the RO removes absolutely everything including the nutrients in the water which our bodies need, but if the water has absolutely nothing in it for the body to use then why would that be a good option for someone who is seriously sick? I wanted to purchase an RO because it removes a lot of nasties incuding fluroide, but I dont know what to do now, does anyone here use an RO in their home? and how do you find it? also does the water still have any nutrients left in it?

Thank you

Jo-anne,

We purchased a RO unit this past summer! I am so thrilled with it. Our water tastes great... well, make that it doesn't taste at all, which is GOOD! LOL Trying to describe the "taste" of water is interesting! Anyway, our system fits under our kitchen sink and so far is very, very low maintainence. Everyone loves our water because it tastes so good. I grew up on distilled water and so drinking tap water is not an option to me just for the taste alone. I can't stand to drink water that has a taste to it.

I don't know about any "nutrients" in my water, but I get plenty from fruits and veggies, so I don't think my water needs any.

Anyway, hopefully that helps!

Thanks Rawadventures, what brand of RO do you have? it sounds great, I've often been told that people can taste the difference. As far as the nutrients go, iam not sure either about whether water does contain any, I hope some others on this board can shed some light on that for us. But, Iam with you that we probably get all our vitamins, nurtrients etc from the fruit and veges.

Well the under the sink model with 5 filters is the best you can get. I have had this for many years and it is what you need too. Fruits and veggies have all the organic water that you will ever need. So don't worry about getting Minerals in your water you will get many on the Raw way of eating. I hope this helps you Douglas in Calif........ :) ;) :)

Thanks Douglas....it gives me a better idea now of what to look for when I go shopping around for one this weekend.

Have a nice day :)

I have an RO system (Culligan), and we love it. I figure I'm getting the vitamins and minerals from all of the right foods I eat now...still investigating b-12 though. Also, only a very small percentage of minerals our body gets is from water. Most are from the food intake.

Not sure why the sales person told you not to buy it unless you're ill. That's rediculous. BTW, flouride isn't just the only things RO systems remove...many many more beneficial things. Google this subject, and you'll find tons of information regarding this.

Thanks Tim, I actually did a google search and couldn't believe all the information that was out there, my current filter removes a lot of nasties but not fluriode which they say can only be removed by RO. I was thinking, if my family and I are going to be taking in approximately 2 litres of water a day, I don't want our bodies to be full of fluriode, I've since come across some RO products and will be making some phone calls to check out their pricing etc.

For some reason, I just can't drink water in the morning unless I put a slice of lemon in it and warm the water up slightly otherwise it makes me wanna puke, I dont know why, but I once bought this bottled water from a special place, all the impurities taken out (pretty expensive little bottle) but I had no problems drinking it in the morning the way it was without the lemon, so maybe my body just doesn't like the fluriode, iam not sure but the way I look at it, either way, the RO has to be the healther option. Thanks Tim, catch ya later! :)

Hi Jo-anne,

I have a Rainsoft RO system. I got this just because I wanted the Flouride out!!! I have been very happy with it. I think we have had it for about 13 or 14 years. It also helps with getting the smell of cholorine out too. We have a high level of cholorine in our water and it SMELLS, but not with my system.

When you get an RO system, the water tastes kind of sweet. I never taste that with bottled water. I think you'll actually like it. I'm sure you read the bottled water vs. RO out on various Googled websites...most of them say that bottled water is essentially tap water, because of lax regulations. They're making more money selling water (the big drink companies) then any other product...if you search for that you'll find out what I'm talking about.

Be good to yourself,

Tim

Thank you so much Tim and Helen for your feedback. I've just ordered a 5 stage RO system (under the sink version) and can't wait to try the water, should arrive in about 4 days time, will have to get a plumber to install it though.
