No, don't worry, i know that SAD means Standard American Diet, but my mom gets really offended if I say what she eats is that. My mom doesn't consume SAD of fried foods, meat, breads, pasta, ect...just wonder what you would call my mom's diet: lean chicken, fish, brown rice, quinoa, stoneyfield plain yogurt, organic eggs, whole grain wheat/soy products (sh'es becoming sensative to one of them though, she won't admit it haha) fruit, and steamed vegetables.

You really don't have to label her diet...but here are a few things that came to mind:

THAD (Typical Healthy American Diet)
SHD (So-Called Healthy Diet or Standard Healthy Diet)
SHAD (So-Called Healthy American Diet or Standard Healthy American Diet)

;)

sounds like she eats a very healthy *cooked* diet.
Yes, I can see where she is offended if you called her diet SAD since she is making a concous effort to raise the quality and standards of her food.
I consider SAD foods to be more in the line of fried foods, lots of chemical/preservative/additives "enriched" processed
foods, junk foods like chips and twinkies, FAST foods, along those lines.
Referring to her diet as SAD could be discouraging to someone making efforts to improve their diet.

before I went 100% raw, I was eating a vegan diet but cooked, and I really thought I WAS eating healthy, but once you switch over to raw vegan, there is nothing else like it.

To me, all other food is simply NOT food, so I don't even call it that.

I mean to me cooked food doesn't exsist.

But, obviously your mom is trying to make good food choices, based on her beliefs, so when someone doesn't have the right information, they will make choices based on the information they do have.

I would certainly leave alot of raw books around, especially Raw family, and just leave it at that, and if you DO have to call her food something, just say, "that food I used to eat, before I became enlightened about natural foods." LOL

That may put a small spark into her mind.

In fact, I think I will label MY foods, natural foods, sounds so much less ominous, than RAW foods. hummm, I like that natural foods. YES.

I like that too, natural foods it is! Well, she has information about it and sees the transformation in me, and my lecturing lol (well, just saying how good it is). She says' "when she's ready" but she's in so much pain from fibromyalgia and i *know* raw will help her, but she won't help herself, frustrating! Maybe she'll make the switch some day. She won't admit she's addicted to dairy, animal proteins, wheat, and soy haha, oh well.

Dream,

If you've Alissa's book, you can read where she and those whom she personally counseled ( even made their food ! - wow.. what a dream ! ) - said that unless a person is REALLY ready - it'll not stick. This was the scenario she used for a few people who really had a bunch of weight to lose as well as a bunch of ailments.
I think sometimes the impetus needs to sink lower down the body into the heart once the brain stops objecting to it.

As far as refined grains ( even unrefined with some people ) and soy are concerned, all you can do is present her with the information - good anecdotal and scientific information - of how it effects certain people and why and then allow that to stew ( ferment we now say ) within her to help her make her own decision.

If she's still reading information prescribing soy, refined grains, different contexts of dairy, et al, then her intake of information be unbalanced and she could still be thinking that any ailment she's suffering with is permanent ( because that's what people are being told ) - and therefore, why go through all of the trouble of a "different diet" to cure it ? ya know?

Maybe that could be her version of Standard American Diet. My mother does the plain yogurt, fish, chicken, salad, fruit and pasta thing too. Does your mom know my mom? ;) She's a Trader Joe's girl.

JAD - Jewish American Diet (that's my mom)
CAD - Cooked American Diet (general term)
AAD - Alternate American Diet
WHAD - Wannabee Healthy American Diet

How 'bout Schizophrenic Sorta Healthy American Diet (SSHAD)
Sounds like how I was. I'd drink wheat grass, but have chocolate. Had green superfood, but still ate ice cream. Dieted all week, then would have pizza or something, then start the diet again the following Monday. Would drink ginger shots, but still ate dairy. Was sort of a vegetarian, but once in a while would have a piece of this or that. I thought I was eating healthy too, but I was getting SICKER & SICKER. But everyone has to come to this in their own time. And, probably no one could have told me until I was ready, and because I was so sick & tired of being sick & tired, I was finally ready.

Now, after over six months 100% raw, I've never felt better in my life. It SADdens me to see people suffer, to see people sick, to see people frustrated with their weight -- it frustrates me that I can only "help" people who are open to it or ready to hear it or what-have-you. In some cases, some people need to do it gradually (like my husband); other people need to do it all or nothing (like me now).

Good advice given re: leaving literature out. Little bits & pieces here & there, like, here's a gem: Heard a guy give a lecture who was from the Tree of Life, and he said, "Go home and tell all your friends and relatives, if they only gave up white starches (breads, pastas, etc.), THEY WOULD ADD ANOTHER 10 YEARS TO THEIR LIFE." Miracle of all miracles, shortly after hearing that, my husband pretty much gave up all white starches up (and he was a HEAVY pasta eater).

I'm rambling, but wanted to put my two-cents worth in.
Thanks for letting me share.
Sincerely,
Vicki
