I tried making Ani Phyo's Buckwheat Crispies last night. In her book, she said they can triple in size when you soak them. However, after draining them, rinsing them, and dehydrating them, they DID get the Crispy texture, but they are STILL the same size. . . very small.
What could have gone wrong?
Have you made these, and had them get bigger?
Could it be because they were frozen when I put them in the water to soak??

I have made them as well.. and not to mention they almost broke the dehydrator because the pieces at the back popped into the fan, so don't put them too close to the back ^_^. Mine did not expand either. They looked the exact same size to me.. I'm going to guess that either we didn't soak them long enough, or she has some sort of special buckwheat (not really).

While I haven't made that recipe, I soak, sprout & dehyrate buckwheat all the time. You didn't do anything wrong - mine never triple in size. She must have buckwheat from TEXAS!! (j/k) *Ü*

Curious, although they didn't expand, were they good? Have not tried the recipe for quite awhile. Sorry to be off orig. topic.

Yep. I think Ani's had too much hemp protein ;)

Buckwheat doesn't expand.

Thank G-d I'm not crazy. LOL

As for taste, to me, they have a rather distinctive taste. Not bad, just noticable. I like to put them on my fruit in the morning for just a little crunch.
