View Full Version : 5k while fasting

I am on day number 6 of my fast and I signed up to do a 5k months ago. I'm an avid runner but have never run during a fast at all. I loaded up on 4 quarts of green juice today and I'm drinking right now a wonderful blend of orange, pineapple, and grapefruit. I ran only three miles today and my energy was not where I would like it. Day 3 during a 5 mile run it was great. Anywho. To adjust to my lack of energy tomorrow monring I was thinking of consuming the same fruit juice above that I'm taking in right now two hours before the run. Do you think this will help or hinder me. I ask because I never vary what I do before a 5k and that means I don't eat or drink anything other than water the day of until after the race. Does anyone have any experice with fasting and running. ( a good drink before and after) or should I just stick with what I know and have my juice when I cross the finish line..I have cut back my runs greatly this week while fasting so 3 miles is a pretty easy milage for me... Thnaks.

I don't know if I'll be too helpful, but I have an idea!
Whenever I've fasted, I had lots of energy, and had I been an avid runner, do believe I would have been able to do it just like I normally would.
Perhaps it is the greens you are lacking? Maybe all that sugar from the fruit is giving you highs -then-lows? Also, perhaps adding a little good fat?
Just some thoughts.
Best of luck and let us know what/how you do!

Thanks Mary Kay, I didn't change anything. I just drank some water with lemon and let a date sit in there as well. I finished with 26 min and second place for my age group. Not to bad on a juice feast for sure...

Thanks Ladies- what I did notice later on that evening is that I eventually got really really tierd. Kind of like when you detox from caffiene and you can't keep your eyes open. It was very strange but felt so good to go into that kind of a deep sleep.. Now i'm up this morning bright and early..
