View Full Version : I cant find raw food interesting when hungry.

I cant find raw food interesting when hungry. no idea how others do it.
I have the book and the dvd. I have the kitchen packed with goodies (aka fruits veggies seeds)
Help!

I think that during times like these are when you really must try to not look at food as entertainment (i.e. finding it interesting) and eat for sustainance. I'm sure there must be things you like that are raw such as a certain kind of fruit or a favorite salad dressing that you can eat on salad or something...eat that. It might not "knock you off of your feet" at the moment, but this is a temporary thing you're going through right now that many go through when we get less interested in the raw dishes or nothing in the fridge looks appealing. It's really all a mind thing.
But just keep focus on WHY you are doing this in the first place. Always keep your goals and nutritional expectations within view, esp. during these challenging moments.
This isn't uncommon, though. I've seen threads here before where members mentioned being bored with raw food but then a day to a week later, they say that it was a temporary phase that didn't last.

Have you tried any of the prepared foods from Alissa's book? I find those sometimes help me when I'm hungry. And then sometimes simple is best too.
Here's another thought...I can't remember where, but I read that we should only eat when we're truly hungry, and that when we're truly hunger then we'll want to eat whatever we have. Sometimes when I start to feel disatisfied with my choices, I go on a juice fast, let my body relax, and reflect on why I'm on this raw path in the first place.
I've found that our bodies are pretty intuitive, even if we can't always understand what their trying to tell us. Hopefully I helped some... Good luck

My first thought is to get rid of your TV, and any magazines with food pics in them, and any old cooked food cook books, etc.
When you first start to eat raw, it does take some will power the first few days, until you get the wheat, dairy, meat and caffeine out of your system.
Also, what are you craving exactly?
If you give us a guess, we can help you tackle that challenge.
like if you are craving pop corn, it is probably something saly and crunchy, so we can give you some cracker recipes, some salty recipes, etc.
If you are craving ice cream--we got you covered, with the best frozen sorbet in the world.
If you are craving a hot soup, we can give you some fantastic recipes for soups and ways to "warm" them and keep them raw.
If you are craving chewy, gooey candies, we can help, we've got some great date nut torte, fudge balls, chewy gooies, that you will love.
so, give us a clue, as to what you are craving, and we'll do our best to give you some truly fantastic raw super tasty alternatives.

Oh.. is this stuff wonderful, or what??
No dairy, no added refined sugars, ..just wonderfully cold raw food - that.. HONESTLY tastes better than store-bought.
Try it!

Right after I first turned raw, I saw this quote somewhere on the internet (may have been on this forum, even), and it struck me, so I wrote it on a yellow sticky and put it where I would see it many times per day, and I believe it really helped me, especially in the beginning.. Here it is: "If you are not hungry enough to eat raw food, then you are not really hungry."
When you're really tuned into your body and giving it what it really wants (needs) (difference between what you think you want in your mind and what your body wants), it's EXTREMELY satisfying to eat. Especially when you're keeping a proper balance between fats, greens & fruits (the Triangle).
Also, when I first started, for some reason, I was always craving guacamole (or avocado), and that would always satisfy me when very few other things would.
I also agree with what everyone else said -- sincerely hope it all helps.

Im vegan, so I dont crave any animals stuff. been vegan for about 3 years now. raw off and on various times.
Im not really sure what I want when Im hungry. I open up the fridge and wait for me to grab it.
right now Ive got pineapple and bananas in the dehydrator with honey drizzled on them. I cant wait for that to be finished! I printed off the raw chili recipe and plan on making it tomorrow!
I guess like what was said earlier by vicki, perhaps I really wasnt hungry.

I think this is an example of dealing with food and how it's tied to our emotions. I've felt this way before, and for myself it means that I need to ask myself some questions as to why? What is going on...is it really boring food or is it missing SAD food, or is it that the food intake isn't where it should be, or whatever it is? What's the underlying issue that brings this to a head?
I believe those of us who were heavy SAD food eaters have lots of emotionally tied issues to food that we'll be dealing with for a long time. I'm starting to think about the food I eat now and how which foods are tied to my energy, positive attitude, and those types of things as well as pleasurable eating. When I look at how I'm feeding myself the right things, it tends to take the emotions out of it...that doesn't mean it isn't hard however. I deal with it every few days.
I'm rambling so I'll cut this off. Just some "raw" food for thought.

everyone has responded with excellent advice. WHen I get those "I dont wanna eat raw today kinda moods" I grab a book on raw food and read other people's success stories or other books on why eating processed food is bad for the body etc, I usually find after reading that I want to be good to my body and will head back into the kitchen and eat some fruit or grab a few dates or an avocado etc which satisfies the hunger (more times than not its not hunger your craving just the mind trying to trick you back into eating processed foods).
Just some food for thought.
