Hello!
Now that I've rested up a bit, I wanted to share the excitement: I ran my first marathon on Sunday, and finished!

I ran the Chicago marathon, along with 40,000 runners from around the world. I trained for six months with a fabulous program, and raised money for the AIDS foundation of Chicago. Before I started training, the most I had run was a 5k.

The marathon was sooooooo much fun! I saw many different sites and neighborhoods in Chicago and smiled the whole time. By the end I was achy and tired, but happy. I had a blast!

Since I eat raw, I ran this with no power bars or gatorade. My breakfast was bananas, celery, and fresh dates. During the run I ate fresh dates and celery. I did really well. I'll post some pictures soon.

Just wanted to share the joy! i wore my finisher medal to work all week =)

Have a great weekend everybody!

If you're thinking of doing it again next year, I'll join you :) I worked out my plan to increase my milage and train for it. I've heard what a great race it is!

Thanks, everyone!!!!! =) Here are the pictures! Kmik, I highly recommend the AIDS marathon training program, if you would like to train for it. The support was amazing. I would not have been able to train for it on my own.

I ran the Chicago marathon 3 years ago for the Leukemia Society. It's an experience you'll never forget.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is an amazing, fabulous accomplishment!

You are certainly well-schooled on proper raw nutrition, I see, too. You knew exactly how to prevent electrolite imbalance with your bananas and celery - that's a perfect potassium/sodium source! Well done! We've all seen a lot of marathoners fall apart near the finishline from dehydration and mineral depletion. I certainly hope the running world takes note of your achievement and appreciates the intellegence behind your diet/nutrition system. Many runners could benefit from your celery/banana regiment.

A+ and 5 stars from the raw nutritionist!

Congratulations Bethany!

Quick question: Where did you stash the celery and dates during the race? I usually pin my race food to my shorts, but can't imagine how that would work with celery, lol!

I'm so excited to hear about your marathon!! I've been feeling very led to train for something like this, too. I started running over the summer and I love it!! I'd love to hear more about your training process. I'm in the Chicago area as well and would like to get information about other marathons you (or other fellow Chicago-ans) know of or are involved in. Congratulations!!

Question - What was your experience with your trainer in regard to your diet?

Fantastic! Wish I could do that, but I gotta lose 220 lbs first. You, however, are an inspiration to all of us wanabes.......... thanks!, and keep up the good work. Are you gonna do it again?

Hey Bethany, Congratulations!!!!

So much for raw and low energy. You're an inspiration for us all. I'd love to hear what your normal diet is made of. I've been having electrolyte problems and bothered by that nagging dogma of the SAD world that I'm not eating right.

So I guess if you ran 26 miles I should be able to get through 4. Thanks for the boost.

Thank you so much, everyone! I really wanted to share that success to let you know that this IS something you can do on raw.

If you are in the Chicago, DC, San Francisco, or San Diego areas, I really highly recommend the AIDS Marathon Program!

I'll try and post more pics when I can.....

=) Good night all!

Congratulations! What a great accomplishment, you worked hard for this and yippee you did it!

You are a great motivation for me as I've been thinking about walking the Seattle Marathon next month... it is a very walker friendly event and I just have to get up my nerve to just do it I guess!

Again, great job!
