PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!
Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!
There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.
And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!
Here's my commitment:
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!
This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!
Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?
Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.
I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.
And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!
So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.
I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

ahhhhh I love a nice new thread. It always brings in more fasters and I loooove a nice big group of fasters!
I'm here... 4 weeks today. Loving this fast. I have 35+ weeks left to go. It'll be nice when I'm 12 weeks in... that feels like a nice place to be. LOL
Anyway... in this moment... THIS is the right place to be. This is the space to be. I am in this space and loooooovin' this fast.
I'm so in the zone. So lovin' this experience. I looooove it when my body wants to fast - like it does right now. mmmm wonderful!
Had a yucky day today... but I know that with patience and kindness... the situation will be resolved and peace with flow back into my life again. (((hugs)))

I love the end of a highly productive week. Worked the tush off, but well worth it. I kicked back and enjoyed a virgin mary. first time juicing tomatoes, not bad. was full from that drink, but for calories sake, I had another delicious concoction. It's so nice when the mind is off food. I have all the makings for practically anything, so before each 'meal' I can just ask the body what it wants. so satisfying !
I asked in my evening prayers/meditation after having a dialogue, to be visited in my dreams as confirmation for our conversation. I had a dream with the #45 in it which stood out from the content of the rest of the dream, and I remembered it when I awoke in the AM, which is rare. Adds up to triple trinity ( for me). I love it ! Feels comforting and reassuring to know I ain't doing this alone ! I'm excited to see what it brings from the dialogue we had.
4 weeks, Aleesha, that's fantastic. You are an inspiration ! I was only going to do 5 days, but will go on for 10. I have a feeling that alot more happens to the body mind spirit connection than meets the eye !
I'm curious about the master cleanse and SWF (not sure what that is). I saw the thread for MC experiences, but not an explanation at the beginning. So where shall I go to find out about both ?
I'm having trouble having a BM, I know it's there -left over from who knows what year !( I had one the 2nd day) I haven't had any problems during my raw eatting time. I'm doing massages but mostly gas comes out. And I feel like it's time. Any ideas ? It's only 5 days into the fast, do things take more time. Plan on going 10 days, and probably more. I notice I'm not eatting as much greens as my GS, perhaps that is why, but I'm drinking loads of water, more than before. Suggestions welcome ! Now that the weekend is here I'll have more time to do more juicing. I'm pretty sure I'm having 2 liters a day.

Doing well, Can not belive how much energy I have. I have done the M/C several times but my energy level was not like this . Last night I drove 5 hrs to lake tahoe arived at 1am and stayed up untill dawn watching the royal wedding. Went to sleep for about 2 hours and woke up feeling very refreshed. Not sure if this is normal or not.. I also spent several hours rakeing and bagging pine straw. I have been having heart burn anythought from anyone that would be great.. Not sure but I have been enjoying a lot of pineapple juice . I especialy love the one in Allissa new book pineapple , carrot and orange, so not sure if that is the problem ..Oh and I have been doing a 15 to 20 mile bike ride 3 of the 4 days. I am speending my 48th birthday with some amazing ladys, we went to dinner me my fresh juice Celery , dandoline, lime, romane, cucumber ... Yum .... They were so worried I was not getting enough food in me .. I just smiled and said , I have to go by the way I feel.. and I feel Very good..:throwhearts:

Lady Awen is loving it!!
Hey Cycle, Happy Birthday!!!! :throwhearts:
Change ~ Radish Juice gave me some bm for sure. (Natural laxative) Make sure this juice is diluted and blend with other goodies. It really has a bite.
Day 10 for me today!!
Made a yummy juice yesterday!! Melon/Vanilla beans/raw honey/water Heavenly!!!!
Now I'm having a kiwi/vanilla water/ginger/sea salt/raw honey.
I feel like I'm getting unto a warrior mode of claiming victory for all areas in my life. Powerful feeling!!
Going on a fast is really easy on my budget!!
I need to make up my mind if I want to go on a Lemon Cleanse in a couple days or continue my juice fast since I need to go to the market soon. It'll be interesting to go to the market on a fast.
Keep it real!

I'm blissing out... again. Oh wow... what a beautiful life I'm living!!!
*my precious... it calls me... it wants me... i want it... i am so fulfilled...*
M/C... I know nothing. Sorry. Google is your friend though. ;)
You can drink a tea to assist with a BM... or you can just trust your body to do what it's doing. I find that a litre of straight apple juice ALWAYS gets my bowels moving within about an hour.

Well.... my hubby wants to fast with me and he wants to do a longer fast. Maybe with some extra support at home I'll be able to go a little longer...
I really want this!! I really do!! I must have the precios.... yes. yes...
We are going to start on Monday since that is when I'll be getting our produce order. So I'm ordering lots of goodies...
I am being "prayfully" hopeful this time around

I'm thankful for miracles everyday!! Really we see them everyday in small and big ways!!
Just enjoyed my kale/tomatos/green pepper/cayenne/sea salt/black pepper.
Decided to put off the Lemon Cleanse off for several more days or maybe the next time I fast.
I noticed that everytime I fast, my eyes always gets blurry, Is this common or not when fasting?

Good morning everyone - this is day 7 for me. I told my husband yesterday that I feel really good, inside and out. Between this and my wonderful hairdresser I no longer sob about my looks and age.
I look and feel 40 again. I'll be turning 58 in a couple more months but I am no longer depressed by the changes, physically, that came with it. I'll have my callenetics DVD next week and can firm back up !
My eyes have been blurry as well. I was wondering what was going on. Why would it affect our eyes though ?
I was a little hungry last night - attributed it to Saturday night hanging out where I'm used to making some treats (raw lately). So, I dipped my finger in the honey - I think the hunger may also be from drop in blood sugar. And drank loads of water and forgot all about it. I must have p'd atleast 4 times during sleep time !
A few of my last drinks have been watermelon mixed with other fruit - it's not yet the sweetest but still delicious and fun ! The others have been the basic mix of carrots, beets, cuke, celery, rainbow chard, apple, lemon, ginger.
Fruit drinks have been a mixture with the base as pineapple.
I told my husband I'm headed for 10 days. He's so supportive. After all, a man knows he'll be happy if his wife is happy. And my hubby adds to my happiness a thousand percent ! He's even been more spontaneous - sure you know what I mean ! :heart
Have a wonder day swinging around the maypole !

it is May Day!! :throwhearts:
*putting baskets of flowers on everyone's door steps in the fasting village, ringing the doorbell, running to hide behind a tree, and peeking at everyone receiving their flowers! A gentle breeze blowing through the village and everyone knows it's from Lady Winday with love.*
Love the scents of flowers!!
I've decided to continue my fast. Today is day 11. I'm not in the mood to break my fast. And I'm just hoping that this blurriness will pass. My eyes are keener than it was before after each fast so that's a good thing!!
I danced this morning to one of my dance DVDs. Dancing makes me feel so beautiful!!
Feel beautiful today and everyday!!

Mystic Warrior... yes... life is good!!!
change, I love love love callenetics. The am pm program is my fav. Very yogaish. I'd love to get a dvd of it but I haven't ever found a copy.
I feel amazing this morning. My period came yesterday and I didn't even know it was coming which is amazing in itself. Normally I get bloated a week before... crampy etc and then it comes the next week. This time... nothing. nada. And I have no cramps, no bloating... ahhhh I love fasting. I love the way my body bleeds during a fast compared to when I'm eating. I have wild cravings, grumpiness, huge bloating, back pain when I'm eating (yes raw) and when I'm fasting... sometimes a little uncomfy but many times nothing. This time is the most gentle it's ever come! Tells me I'm healing deep within my Self. ahhhhhh
Sipping on water... getting my first litre of water into me and then I'll continue drinking some each time I pee. Hydration is a good thing!!!

Lady Aredhel, I know it's frustrating when it's not happening... I was there for a few months between my last extended fast and this one. But it does come. You just have to be patient and wait for that switch in your head to 'flip' and you are magically in the zone.
May the zone come to you my sister... soon. Tomorrow would be nice! LOL

juice for the day:
Karen Knowler's Green Goddess Juice
1 ripe pineapple (only needed 1/2 of my pineapple)
2 apples
1 cucumber
8oz of greens (used baby spinach and kale)
5 celery stalks
1/2 lemon
1/2 lime
AND...it is a GORGEOUS RAINY DAY here in the Ozarks....candles lit, incense burning, new age music in the background, home ALONE, good books, dogs and juice!!!!
I am reading Marianne Williamson's Course in Weight Loss....it is very good.
The Principles:
1). Your body is neutral
2) Mind is cause; body is effect.
3) The cause of excess weight is FEAR, which is a place where love is blocked
4) Fear expresses itself in subconscious urges like unhealthy eating and/or resistance to exercise.
The fear must be rooted out....there is no other way to sustainable health.

i just copied it from the favorite juice while fasting thread. it seems like it would be awesome on a hot summer day.
getting ready to whip up the tomato juice blend also to take me into this rainy evening.
I feel SO optimistic about this fast!
I wonder...a question to all you fasters...do you ever have a feeling going in to a fast if it going to be a strong one or that you may only be entering in to it half hearted?
Aleesha Sattva
05-01-2011, 12:21 PM
i never do. i always go into with the hope that it'll be extended (beyond 111 days) but i just go with the flow. if i really want to fast... then i make a commitment to get beyond 10 days no matter what. that often helps me to keep going.

Aleesha - I thought I saw the AM/PM on ebay or amazon.
which one do you recommend to start - they all sound sooooo great - I need the usual places - underarms, thighs tush, belly.
Whoa - I love dancing to the Talking Heads DVD - if that doesn't get someone moving they have to be dead !
The recipe with the pineapple, etc is perfect for later. I love when someone reads my mind when I wonder what to juice and it gets posted !
It's beautiful here in St. George, a bit chilly but nice fresh air. There is this bush with yellow flowers that gives off the most incredible smell. Perfect scent. MMMMMI'm in a trance !!! think I'll do some of that dancing too.
My husband said this AM in our vows it said dance and sing together - sometimes we don't get work done because we're dancing around our office. :excited: :excited: :excited:
Enjoy the day everyone - I'm headed into the real air !
Have I gone a bit crazy or have I lost more body fat in the 2 days since ending my master cleanse?
I broke on Friday night and I've been back to 2000+ cals of cooked food due to being at home, but I just tried on a pair of size 8 (US size 6) jeans and I could get them OVER my hips today whereas on the day I ended, I couldn't get them completely over my thighs. Is it possible I have lost more body fat since then despite my calories shooting up? :)

Today I have had the luxury of doing nothing but laying in bed with my two dogs and my books and lap top and reading and journaling and focusing on the journey.
The busy week ahead seems daunting but diligence will win. I am thinking how thrilled I will be with myself when the next weekend comes and I have been loyal and steadfast.
So far today I have had almost two liters of green juice...next up the tomato blend....cannot wait. My earlier fast attempts did not include this much juice and I can see where it really matters so I am not famished.
Added the coconut oil and it makes me smile.

yes yes yes let's celebrate day three jhodi, it's a parrrrrrrrrtaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i water fasted yesterday. totally 100% good till about 9pm and then a wave of yuck washed over me. left shortly after though. i dropped a few pounds yesterday (which is always nice) so i'm at 134.4 this morning. that brings me under my weight of ending my 209 day fast. i'm happy to release another 20 pounds so my weight in not a concern of being too low at this point at all. i'm sure that at some point in this fast i'll have to up my juices to maintain my weight but i'm not there yet.
i walked so much yesterday. spent the entire day in the sun with my iphone playing music and me walking. it was such a great day!!! AND... i stayed hydrated. in all... i drank over 4 litres of water. :encore: which is so good for me. i can 'forget' to drink when i water fast.
i'll be having two young coconuts (water) later this morning. i have no desire to spend the week on water. i didn't intend to water fast yesterday... it just kinda happened LOL

Still drinking water. I've had 3 qts. so far. I have a slight headache, but still getting lots done today.
jhodi... I don't consider myself a long time faster, but I do enjoy fasting. I started fasting the beginning of 2010, and I couldn't even do one day. I would come here and read the fasting thread and it totally encouraged me. Finally in June 2010, I did my first long fast. I fasted for 29 days. It was great and I loved it. I was totally hooked. I've done a few short fasts since then, but I'm really wanting to do a 30 day fast. Thats what I'm hoping for this time around.
Back to work...:excited:

I was just looking at zucchini at the store and wondered if it can be juiced. How does it taste ?
Aleesha - congratulations - I am in awe of how you do this. You're an inspiration.
I'm on day 8. Didn't prepare well enough for lunch - brought juice to office, but it wasn't enough. So I pretty much drank I think it'a a half gallon. I'm swimming. I also find if I dip my finger in raw honey, it satisfies the hunger.
Headed into day 9. I'm actually feeling quite great ! I love who I see in the mirror (finally). Love that I only need about 5 - 6 hours of sleep most nights.
In the evening I sit in front of our aquiriums in the dark (their lights are off) and enjoy their floating, and slow movements. And the plants swaying in the water.I'm there with them. Soooo peaceful, feels soooo good.
For dinner I had cuke, romaine, apple, pineapple, strawberries, mango (yellow) and mint. I feel like I'm on an exotic island sipping away in a lounge chair, enjoying the sweet air.
After day 10, I am taking a short break and will be back to do it again. I already told my husband that I may MAY, join you on 30 days. Oh, I said it out loud. He's all for what ever is helping me feel good about myself and my health is better.
Good night everyone. One of these days I'll get my husband to put my picture up.

tomorrow will be 4 out of 30...let's see, that leaves 26 days to my goal. WOW. Can I do this??? Everyone else does it all the time it seems!!!
After this fast, I may just fast for three days at a time and do what I consider the 30 day fast my "extended" that I do maybe once a year....I know....that is a cake walk for some and not considered extended....but for me...if I can accomplish this once a year then WOW.
ok, enough of my blogging kind of post.

The only down side is last night I kinda went off on my husband AND my best friend. Oh my god. So not like me...wow. It was like a hair trigger. Working on a little damage control today. One of those rightfully justified being offended but reacted a bit more intensely than maybe the situation called for...i think. oops. What is getting cleared out here???
SO.....27 days to the finish line.....wonder what I will find there?
Good luck to all my fellow fasters and a word from me.....keep yo sheet togetha!!! hahhahahha

Ah the fasting grumpies... yup... they happen. Be sure to warn those around you that your fuse is a little shorter than usual and when you feel them coming on... just remove yourself from the situation. Take some deep breathes and... get some juice into you. Juice really helps lessen the effects of the fasting grumpies.
I've got my apple juice made for the day and I'm off to enjoy a gorgeous day in White Rock. It's a beach community with little shops... it'll be a great way to spend the day. Hope it isn't too rainy...
Happy fasting all!!!

On my first water/juice fast, well first any kind of fast really! I have been using Juice Fasting & Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz to guide my 3 day fast. Some people don't recommend jumping on a water fast with out any fasting experience but for some reason my body seems to be wanting mostly just water? So I thought I'd just go with it and see what happens/how I feel...
Day 1 - empty feeling inside stomach, occasional food cravings, lots of water intake on the hour.
Day 2 - after a deep sleep I woke up with flu-like symptoms (nausea, hot and cold sweats, weakness) I actually induced vomiting I was so nauseas and following the book saying to let it out. As the day went on and a needed fresh air bath I felt much better. I also drank two juices when my body asked for it.
Day 3 (today) - after another great deep sleep (but with some weird dreams) the empty stomach feeling has finally left. i decided to jump on the scale just to see whats going on and let go of 5 pounds. one juice this morning, maybe one later depending how I feel. Still lots of water.
Today is my last day, now I feel like I could continue this for more time but I am going to live on my dad's boat for about a month now working for him doing some strenuous labor. Now its time to transition back and break the fast... also looking forward to trying to keep up my raw diet out in the middle of the ocean! We have a generator so I just bought a little personal blendor to make smoothies. We dock about every other day so I will be able to run to the grocery store and stock up on fruits and veggies!
Hopefully my transition off this short fast will go smoothly and I look forward to trying maybe a long juice fast after I get off the boat!
yay for my first fast!

Congrats Yograw on your first fast. I'm sure you'll be back for more. How lucky to be going to live on a boat for awhile. We have been looking into getting one but the more we look the more expensive it seems. Someone told my husband boat stands for "Break Out Another Thousand". For the time being it looks like we are staying in the campervan.
My Water during the day and greens at night is going well. Here to a new day full of promise. Even though the grumpies have been landing here as well it's all part of the process.

Hello everyone...
Having a pretty good day so far..
I believe Aleesha likes to use papaya for breaking a fast. I like to have blended soups or smoothies... with just fruits or veggies (no nuts, seeds, ect.). Way to go by the way...yograw!!!
rawmom... Great job. I did one day of water fasting...lol..but I was happy with that. I've never done a water fast before so hey :woohoo:
mysticshore... we too would love a boat.. but we'll settle for hiking and camping.
Tonight I made my tomato/veggie juice, but I made it very green. Its "okay"..not my favorite, but nice still. I know the greens are good for my body and so I like that.
I'm hoping for a better nights sleep tonight.

Hi all;
I had the fasting grumpies in the beginning - once I realized what it was I kept to myself - I hate having to apologize, better still, I hate causing a ruckus.
YoGraw - Way to Go !! Congratulations. I wrote down Steve's name to look it up.
I've been up to the point where I don't even have time to juice or, so I'm thinking long and hard about doing what you've done as a starter.
I wasn't juicing many oz thru the day, so I was drinking a gallon atleast of water. Seems like I was always thirsty, anyway. I'll give it a shot - not crazy about vomiting ! uck! Are you planning on doing it again sooner then later, if so, I'll do it with you.
Well, because it is 'rent time' (property manager) I have been working since 4:30 AM and still going strong at 9 PM. But, since I couldn't get home to juice, I kept the fruit whole (I was getting very hypoglycemic and wasn't functioning well). I juiced 36 oz for breakfast and that pretty much carried me thru until 7P, but needed something besides sticking m finger in the raw honey jar.
Well, I made it thru 8 3/4 days !
I'll start all over again on the weekend after I read up on water fasting/juicing in the meantime so I can get myself psyched up to do it.
I'll still read your posts, your all fabulous to be with. perhaps I can prepare better for tomorrow.

I'm so tired... that I'm just going to share and hope I'm not missing much. If I do... ask me again please.
Breaking a three day fast... have a soft fruit for breakfast, a salad or fruit for lunch and salad for dinner. Eat normal the next day.
Long day... went with juice but left it in the car as we were walking a mile and didn't wanna carry it. There was a juice bar so I wasn't worried. Got there and they said they had NOTHING to juice. NOTHING at all. Ugh... great. So I wasn't feeling too good about that. But I had an amazing, magickal, wonderful day regardless.
Bought myself a pair of cowboy boots... and I'm soooo thrilled.

Hey checking in. On day 14 so far, mainly had grape/coconut oil/ sea salt/raw honey uesterdau. Very filling.
Yeah, I had the grumpies for the past few days. It's wearing off now, I can tell. I bought interesting items to juice which is turnips, asparagus. broccoli. Of course I'll be mixing it with apples. I have more purple grapes to juice so will be juicing that today.
Good news it that my reading is normal again like it was this whole time. so it's REALLY nice to know that I can fast to reset the balance in my body to work on whatever it needs. Plus I like this feeling of fasting. makes me feel so close to home!! And my skin looks younger and tighter too!!

Good Day Everyone!
Coming off my fast today and feeling very good. It's amazing how sweet the apple tasted I ate this morning!
changeisgood - definitely check out that book, it's a nice little book that I read over and over again before and throughout my fast and helped me not to freak out for example when I started vomiting. I don't think it is too common but there were a whole list of detox symptoms so it's good to know what your body is doing and why.
Although a short fast, I must say the first days were not easy! I was hungry and had this empty feeling in my stomach but I don't think it was 'real hunger', I realized the only times I really wanted food was connected to emotional thoughts or being bored. Then by the third day I was almost with out hunger at any point, this gives me confidence to try another longer fast in about a month or two when I have a break from work. I was thinking of the Master Cleanse? Or just a long juice fast.
Aleesha and Goodcat thanks for the fast breaking advice.

So, I'm back on board for the 30 day challenge and will check out the book.

yograw
05-05-2011, 05:53 PM
whoa-raw, is that all you ate?
if so that could have something to do with it. bananas have a very low water content and on an empty stomach it might but not be the best. i read that by blending bananas with apple juice is better for a fasting stomach as it highers the water content and is easier on your tummy.
hope this helps! and feel better soon!

I wished I had asked if bananans were okay to break the fast with. Didn't though because i thought it was considered soft fruit and for some reasons thought it would be easy on the tummy. In the past I would always eat a banana if my tummy was upset.
I had a tomato then walked for about fifteen minutes. It feels better. It just felt like the bananas was sitting like a rock in my stomach as my stomach was cramping around it making it feel stuck there. It hurts bad!! Never again with bananas.
Maybe a list as a stickie in the fasting section what's the best raw food to break a juice fast with and what's not.
I feel better but still achy and less cramps.
Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it. So really breaking a fast with high water content in small amounts would be a way to go.
What about drinking plenty of water when breaking a fast?

i also thought bananas would be considered soft until i read about it then it made sense so you are not alone! :) and yes i believe to keep taking in lots of water following the fast is recommended.
glad your feeling better, its amazing how much we can learn through fasting about food and our bodies.

Thanks you two!! I do feel alot better tonight. That feeling was so awful, never want to go through that again!!
So I got the food that Aleesha suggested. I remember some tip about breaking the fast with soaked prunes. drink the prune water slowly, then eat the prunes slowly too. Wish I had done that instead. Well at least I know to stay away from bananas because I would have been bound to break one of my fast in the future with this fruit.
I'll be drinking plenty of water.
Lots of love to my tummy to make it all better!!: kisses:
Good night you two. Hope the day will be better tomorrow!

Quick hello - been up since 3 AM. Beginning of month is always busy.Drank only water, water, water. I'm floating.
Then had watermelon - yum ! nice and sweet and smooth.
Headed to bed. Saw some recipe for Goddess... something or other. Sounds real good. Have all the ingredients, so that's on the menu for tomorrow.
I'd say it's only because of the fast, that I have this energy to do long days.
My intestines love me. They are soooo happy they're not filled with all the gunk ! This might be TMI - but even my BM looked fresh and healthy, even had a pinkish red tone to it from the beets. :throwhearts:
Off to bed, sorry for not responding to some of you. Will do it tomorrow when my mind is working better.
Good Night !

Changeisgood, I was getting ready to ask if that was blood in my stools or as a result of the beet juice. Seriously! So it is never TMI I guess in this forum.
SO...DAY SEVEN. wow. and last night I developed a headache...it remains this morning....I am worried the juice bar maybe, no, certainly does not use organic produce and this is the cause.
I am continuing on, however, drinking willow bark tea.
GOOD MORNING from the Ozark Mountains!

Glad everyone doing good! :heart
I feel better then I did yesterday. I drank e.o. cinnamon and clove water throughout the night as I was halfway sleeping. It help a great deal.
I say no to having a bad attitude and yes to having a good attitude. In times like this, it's really obvious if my attitude is helping the situation or not, then it made me realized that it applies to all areas of my life. After this. I've really made up my mind that even just 1 percent of being negative is not cool at all.
Anyways, just wanted to say that in case anybody asked me in the future that having a good attitude is based on a choice not circumstances.
I'm gonna do some more research on how to break a fast properly. If I can enjoy the process of breaking my fast, there will be surely more fasting days to come!
Have a good day everyone!!!

bladder infection - gone
manuka honey and cranberry juice took care of that nice and quick!
i have a whole 90 minutes before i have to run off again. wow this was a busy week for me. *wipes brow*
on the fasting front... been releasing some more weight - which pleases me. i'm 132 now. would like to get below 120 so going a bit lower and then coming back up a tad when this fast is over will be good. sustaining my weight long term during this fast should be easy enough. i seldom release much weight when i'm fasting (although i am at the moment)... so i'm confident it won't become an issue for me. if it does... i'll deal with it.
in all... 18 pounds released in my 35 days fasting - yup today is the end of week 5 for me.
drank heaps of water today... so all is good in my world.

Happy Friday everyone !
The Ironman is a big happening tomorrow - ppeople are already claiming a good spot and sleeping out so they don't lose it.
I had the same lunch, GoodCat, minus the coconut water. I like the taste of cucumber, a distinct taste but mild at the same time.
Aleesha, congrats on the weight loss. And clearing a bladder infection in 6 hrs - I didn't get time to say ouch !
WhoaRaw - I wish you were around to wisper in my ear about letting go of negative attitude. What a day I had. Glad it's over. It is so rare, extremely, but it sure is lousy to stew in it. Was able to let go late in the day.
I'm almost laughing, I was chatting with the Masters this AM and got that this was going to be a wonderful day. LOL! Next time, I'll have them define what that word means to them ! LOL! I suppose it could have been alot worse.
Whaat's the best item to juice/have for my hypoglycemia.
I had a bad attack this AM to the point of shaking. I had had good ol orange juice with mango, and it sure was good going down. I shook thru juicing lunch I deliberately added greens, and then drank probably more then a quart of water. I'm wondering if it has something to do with citrus. I had a couple of reactions to delicious grapefruit on separate occassions, and now oranges. The pineapple was sooo delicious. I hope it's not.

End of day ten.. Have been so busy with work . Have had no time to post. I have done the m/c 3 x a year 4 the last 3 years. But with the jucie and veggie fast my energy has been of the charts.
So easy, really do not miss much. I am brakeing my fast saturday. I have had a weekend retreat planned for my sisters 50th birthday. I rented a little cabin on the lake in Tahoe. She loves it when I prepare all my raw food plates. So for the whole weekend I am going to make things I tagged in Allissa book. So excited can not wait. I want to start on a fast for thirty days or longer starting in june. But I have a 100 mile bike ride ,I am doing the first week of June and not sure how to pull that of with fasting. So any ideas would be great.
Good to see everyone is doing so good :):excited::excited::excited:

That pineapple, cuke, apple sounds like a good choice to make in the AM.
Since all roads are tied up with the Ironman, we were only able to get to B&N. When I sat down with juicing books in hand, the woman next to me and I had a conversation. She has been juicing for 3 yrs and has lost 200 lbs and is working on her third. And other healings, as well. Yeah !! We got thru the week ! I followed someone's recipe of spinach, celery, strawberries and orange - it's a keeper !
Later, cantaloupe juice and watermelon - at different times of the day/eve.
I haven't heard from my soon to be 24 y/o son 2300 miles away. We talk almost every day, though. He's a sweetheart who is going thru the calamities and lessons that age group goes thru. He's been working over and above to pay his father back for money he had to borrow when his dog needed surgery and medical attention, died anyway, and infected 3 of his puppies with a bug he caught at the vet. Ver pricey. Worse, he cried like a baby for losing his 'child'/pups.

Hey ya'll. I haven't been here in ages but now that I'm doing a juice fast again I wanted to drop by and say hi. Day 2 here (of juicing fasting, I did two days of raw smoothies before that) and things are going okay. I'm having some cravings but they aren't as er... violent as last time. (lol) I actually have felt really high levels of energy so far! Which is so exciting because in my previous fasts I pretty much fell into fatigue and other detox symptoms by the end of day 1. I felt pretty normal, but with sort of an edge? If that makes sense. Yesterday I worked outside for hours with no problems. We are building a wading pool in the river by our house so it's a lot of digging and moving rocks around and I'm amazed that I was able to do this work on only juice!
I'm happy to hear that you didn't do SWF's with your fasts, Aleesha. I've been a little worried about the whole SWF/enema/colonic deal while fasting. I wasn't sure when or if I even should do a SWF. I heard some other fasters say that if you don't do one the toxins will not move out your colon and you will start to re-absorb them. I was just in the process of freaking out about this a little when guess what? I went to the bathroom on my own. :)
Other than all that the only thing I can say is I had insanely bad nightmares last night and just lots of anxiety while I was sleeping. I think I must have been detoxing something horrid but it passed after I woke up. :)

I'm starting to get to that "majorly hungry and dreaming of food" stage. Grr... I was hoping I'd get off easy and that wouldn't happen this time. lol no such luck. At least I'm craving better things though. I've been reading raw food reciples all night. Why do I torture myself? I'm starting to do that battle with myself thing... eyeing the cuboard and just knowing that... if I wanted to... I could make... etc etc.
I don't want to. But it bugs me that my mind is doing that to me. Maybe it's time for more juice. I bought a watermelon earlier and dang that thing is going to go far. I've barely used an eighth of it on like four cups of juice. I also have two cantelopes. I'm going to cut one of those open for breakfast I think.

climbing... I hear you... I've had the same issues.. I seem to think about XYZ instead of my yummy juices. But I'm determined and I'm trying to change my mind set. I'm thinking on the reasons why I'm fasting instead of the foods I could be eating. Its helping, so thats good
Aleesha.. that sounds so wonderful. Did they juice that up there for you? How are you getting all your juices until Wednesday??
Have fun my sister :excited:

Hi GoodCat - Gardening is soooo much fun ! I'm all excited about planting and juicing directly from garden veggies/fruit Our peach tree looks like she'll give us fruit this year (year 2). Have fun playing in the dirt !
Welcome Climb - carry around juice with you and reach for it when you think of food. I find it satisfying and takes away any thought of food.
Aleesha - glad to hear BM are far between - I thought I was getting constipated. A few days ago when I had mine, it looked so healthy and the colors were so soft.
Sounds like a wonderful adventure you're on with hubby. It's so nice to have that closeness and feel the love pouring out from each other while in new beautiful surroundings. I think I'll go hug my hubby and smell his pheramons !
Let's come up with a date for wife's day. heck, there's have sec'y day.
and we'll pass it on to every wife we know. :throwhearts:
I do the salt water in the AM a few times a week. Sometimes it works, sometimes, there just isn't anything. I'm crazy, I love the taste of salt, especially good salt. To think when I was a child and when I gargled it for a sore throat, mom said not to swallow it.

Do NOT look at reciPes when fasting. It stimulates your hunger! Sure fire way to sabatogue your fast.
I have willpower like you cannot even imagine. ;) ... comes from years of having to be on a super limited diet due to my food allergies. It actually kinda helps me in a weird way, even though it's torture at the same time, lol. I look at things and tell myself they will be a reward for what I'm doing now.
The end of day 3 here. It's going okay. So far I haven't had any emotional turmoil or anything really, aside from a momentary freak out earlier when some friends were inviting me to dinner this weekend. I thought maybe I'd be done fasting by then but I didn't like the pressure it made me feel, like in case I wanted to keep going, you know?
I don't know how to deal with this. It seems like I can fast for 3-4 days but beyond that there is always some sort of social obligation that stops me. I know technically I could still go to the dinner and just sit there with my juice but if I'm being honest with myself I know I won't do that, I'll either get upset and cry and embarrass myself and then run home OR I'll give in and break the fast, probably with something I shouldnt. All my friends eat pretty healthy and everything but not fast-breaking stuff....
It sucks because I really want to fast for two weeks or longer at some point but I just can't seem to figure out a time when I can do that.
Other that all that (thanks for listening to that lil rant btw) it's going ok. Decent energy, I actually got some work done today (I'm a writer), and even though it wasn't physical work, I was really happy to see I was able to do that, because working on a novel takes this huge amount of concentration for me and half the time I struggle with it if I'm even a bit tired on a normal, non fasting day. In the past I haven't been able to work while fasting at all. I wrote for probably 4 hours at least so that's something! I actually felt really mentally clear too when last time I had a lot more brain fog. It gives me so much hope, because my last fast was in january, and that shows that my high raw diet has healed my body SO much in between then and now!
Once again I had crazy dreams last night, but not nightmares like the night before. In this dream, for whatever reason, both Greece and Mexico were located where South Carolina is now (I'm in NC) so you could drive there from here... lol. What happened to SC is beyond me! Oh and all the people from that reality show Jersilicious were there (what the hell?) and also in the dream I was tempted by these two handsome men to cheat on my partner, but I said no and ran away in a desperate attempt to get back to him. Cool that even in my bizzaro-fasting-dream world, I'm loyal to my guy. :D
I hope to continue through tomorrow at least. I think I broke my fast at the very beginning of day 4 last time, so my goal this time is to at least make it longer than last time. We'll see.

And here I was thinking I was strong just because I could look at reciples. lol!
More than halfway through day 4 here. Intensely strong sense of smell kicked in today. It was a bit disturbing. I went to the grocery store and I could smell everything. I could smell junk food through the bags they were in at the check out line, and even worse, I could smell people. Everyone within a 10 foot radius. Their breath, their skin, their insides, all of it. It was so intense it took everything in me not to run away gagging. These weren't exactly healthy vibrant people... they smelled like toxins and death, it was sooo horrible.
I was doing really bad earlier, detoxing something awful. Cold like symptoms, chills. It seems to have passed for now. I got another watermelon at the store, along with two more pineapples, a huge bag of oranges and some celery. Still going strong. :)

Hi everyone -
Funny, I'm also dealing with smells. They are sooo much stronger and I must be smelling something from a different area cause it smelled like a familiar food. Great smell, would never eat it again. Grieving time is over. My husband will eat a food that I loved loved loved and it doesn't bother me. I know the pains in my belly I will get. Not fun !
It must be wives day cause my husband made juice for both of us. Delicious combo - pineapple, orange, apple, mango, plum. Nicie and creamy and delicious !
What is that barley something or other you had in your drink ? Is it like wheatgrass and you need a special juicer ? And the taste ?
Gotta go, hang in there, climbing, you'll do just fine. If you're a praying person, just ask for assistance.

Day 5 here. The last 24 hours have probably been the worst. :(
I seriously wonder what the hell is inside my body that could be this painful coming out. After all the cold and flu like symptoms yesterday, majorly bad emotional and mental symptoms began last night. I just felt so sick and freaked out. I went to bed early and had weird dreams all night. When I woke up I had 5 or 6 big nasty cystic acne like boils coming out of my face. Ever since I've been high raw I don't get much acne (but I used to have it BAD years ago on the SAD diet) so it's upsetting. I'm telling myself it will pass. I also had really really bad pain in my ovary area this morning.
On top of that it's just been so stressful. My partner tries to be understanding but my irritability and sobbing fits are wearing on him and he's getting to the point where he just wants me to break the fast. But I finally feel like some real detox is happening so I want to hang on a bit longer!

Hey there. Wanted to let ya'll know I did decide to break my fast last night. (very end of day 5). But you guys were right, around early evening ALL the detox passed and I felt great. I had read someone say in another thread on here that you should always end the fast when feeling good, not when having detox symptoms, so that, plus the fact that it is our anniversary on sunday, made me conclude that it was time to end this run.
It was a learning experience (*like they all are) and I plan to do another one in a few months or so and aim for 14 days that time. Seeing how much this one detoxed me made me really inspired to do more.
I just feel so clean and clear now. I woke up at the crack of dawn after a night of vivid dreams and filled with inspiration. I'm a writer and I came up with a new story idea based on a dream I had, and the first thing I did was go to my desk and blast through ten pages of new writing! I used to have to have two cups of coffee before I could even think about getting to work. Fasting is so amazing. :)
Thanks for all your kind words and support. I'll be back next time. Happy fasting everyone! :) :) :)

When I first began fasting I never got into the zone until later in my fast. It was always sheer commitment that got me to that space. Made the zone a really special 'gift'. So don't discount the fact that you can and will get there if you choose to fast long enough.
Thanks Street! (((hugs)))

Aleesha, :hug I love that the internet allows us to reach across the miles and be able to support each other. But it would be so nice to be able to actually MAKE you a big yummy juice full of goodness when you're feeling so weak. I'm so glad you've got a wonderul hubby though who supports you in this fast and juices for you. Are you feeling better now?
Cathy, :woohoo: Good for you for deciding you didn't want to break the fast and hopped right back on!!! I'm rooting for ya! This really is all a learning/growing experience. I'm so thankful all of you are here. I love fasting with you all. :heart
Aleesha, I know what it is to feel so weak you don't have the energy or drive to make the juice. I've been there. It's that very weakness that causes me to rally and get up and just do it. As I'm sure you've done many a time before too. But I'd much rather be in that weakened state where my body is healing then that state of feeling yucky from overconsumption of SAD foods. I've done that way to many times. It's so good to be free from that ickiness, lol. And I'm never going back there again!

Good Cat we were posting at the same time. I'm sorry you aren't feeling that good. My tummy was cramping up big time yesterday while I was doing a Leslie Sansone walking video. I had never done one before and ususally I just walk outside. I just ordered some of her dvd's the other day and they came so I did it. Felt great for awhile then after awhile, with all the movement my stomach was protesting greatly.
Do you think your stomach is just not happy from the meal you had? Fasting will cure that real quick! :juicy: Keep going! You can do it!:hug

beauty4ashes... Thank you for the encouragement. Its means so much. Actually the tummy problems have been happening for a little while (even before I ate). Basically, every time I drink a fruit juice my tummy really cramps up. I doesn't matter if I sip slowly or drink quickly. I'm thinking it could be my candida acting up, but I'm not sure..
I'll fast as much as possible.. Even if its half day fasts, I'm okay with that too:woohoo:

05-14-2011, 11:04 PM
Hmmmm. Not sure about this. Watermelon does have a lot of the natural sugars so that would definitely not be great if you're struggling with candida.
I know I get to feeling spacy if I drink to much. I've been really wanting some though but waiting awhile longer for them to be sweet. I'm picky and don't like it when the flesh is pink.
Or, maybe the pineapple is too acidic for your stomach? Could you switch to coconut water and other fruits like cantelope's? Don't give up. I think I read where you want to go to the end of the month. So that's why I'm hoping you will keep going and not give up until you reach your goal.
If you do half days when your heart is not in to breaking your fast, it can just open the door to feeling discouraged and falling in to eating to much. I know I have the potential for doing that all to easily.
I will pray your tummy settles down. :heart
Oh and I saw your new siggy line! I didn't know you are the mom of 6 beautiful children! You are so blessed.

Goodcat, yes you are doing really good things for your health on half day fasts. I just wanted to make sure you really felt okay about breaking your all day fast. Your plan sounds great and something I want to do too when I finish my fast. Thanks for sharing. :hug

I had another amazing day. Woke up at 8:50 to find my hubby making me juice. Got dressed quick so we could get to the sweat lodge for our sweat!
I had a major breakthrough/healing experience in the sweat. Couldn't even stand up after... so the guys helped me to a spot to sit and poured cold water over my head to assist me.
Then I had two litres of juice and felt amazing.
Went for an hour long walk... and then made one of the best juices I've ever made!
4 small zucchinis
1 green onion
2 golden beets and greens
1 bunch of kale
1/2 bunch of parsley
1/2 a small fennel
1 jalapeno with most of the seeds removed
I added a lot of Udo's oil (to finish off the bottle) and kelp powder, cumin, turmeric and a curry blend... and of course some cayenne.
It was spicy and sooooooooooo good. A gorgeous green colour. I have lots left for tomorrow night (as my juice intake has dropped a lot this fast compared to my last extended fast).

I will... I just wanted to share so everyone remembers... fasting doesn't always heal everything. We need to remember to be in touch with our body and do what needs doing.
And that's what I'm doing. I'm attempting to put my best me into this moment.
Lovin' my fast. I actually thought about breaking my fast today only because when I'm sick... food is my comfort so I wanted food. Instead... I told myself not to be rediculous and I moved forward and did NOT eat anything. Not a smidge of a smidge of a taste of anything (as this entire fast has been like that).
Had the remainder of my spicy zucchini juice tonight and some more watermelon. My car broke down and I was stuck without any fluids (or bathroom) so I'm pushing the fluids now!

Aleesha! I'm so sorry you're in pain. :hug Gentle hugs. Yeah, it sounds like now is a good time to have pain killers and antibiotics. They can be a blessing in emergencies. And I'm sorry your car broke down too, right during this ailment you're going thru. ugh! I hope you get to feeling better real soon and the meds do their thing.
Cathy, hope your week goes well and there's fun in the midst of the busyness.
We're finally getting some pretty weather back. It was so wierd for me having winter like weather in May. April was extremly cold here. This is so different for this Texas girl. Ready for spring to stick around! Today is going to be beautiful though. Hope it's nice where you all are.
Yesterday, I had some honey dew melon juice. And a few strawberry pineapple juices as well as my veggie juice. Aleesha your recipe you posted sounds good! I've never put tumeric in juice. I'll have to try it. Which reminds me, Cathy I am so sorry I haven't ordered the spices from you yet.
I'm tired, and do not have my act together. Have so much going on as well.
Some day when I get a handle on things I want to look over the website so I can know what to order in the way of spices and other things for my family. Just wanted you to know I haven't forgotten, I'm just overwhelmed.

Hi everyone!
Today is day one of my juice fast. Just made up a bunch of carrot-beet-red pepper juice.
My plan is to juice fast through Saturday, and then to water fast while I'm on an eight-day silent retreat. Don't know how long the water fast will last--I'll take it day by day and return to juice if my body seems to be calling for it.
I'm hoping that five days of juice fasting will make the transition to water a little easier.

Good Morning!
How are you all doing? I have been reading up for a few pages..
I hope I can join you again in fasting!
Today is day 2 for me, I am feeling good so far. I will do a 10 day fast probably. I also bought a new juicer which I am excited about, I don't think it will arrive this fast but that's ok. I am in love with pineapple, watermelon and ginger juice right now. I am also so happy it's not so cold here anymore as it was in my last fast. I am sure things will be easier. I intend to to a lot more running and kettlebell swinging this fast and see how I feel with that.

Em, that sounds divine!!!!! Wish I was there with you.
Welcome Hanneke!!! Nice to fast with you again.
Okay... all I have to say is thank goodness for pain killers. They don't remove the pain but they sure make it tolerable!
Thankfully I have juices in the fridge... and I'll get my hubby to help me make some for my trip away Wed and Thursday.
Correction... I have one juice. Oh well... guess I'm water fasting the remainder of the day. No way can I push down on the plunger to make juice. My back can't do it.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Aleesha!
So I'm wondering about people's experiences with water fasting. Say I switch to a water fast after five days of juice fasting--any thoughts on what my hunger level is likely to be like? I'm hoping that by easing into it with a juice fast, it won't take so long to lose the hunger.

water shuts your hunger down almost immediately... and definitely in the first three days. so trust me... you'll have no hunger!

Cool. Fortunately, I won't have to worry about energy levels. I'm going to sit on a rock and stare at the ocean. Weather permitting.
