Welcome welcome welcome!!! :excited:

Welcome to the 30 day challenge. :eat and welcome to our new monthly format.

This is our monthly challenge thread. We are choosing to do one (or perhaps split into two) continual threads so we can create a community of support within this challenge. You can join this thread at any time during the month. Don't be shy... we love new posters!!! So if you want to join us... please do!

I welcome people who are already 100% raw to join in the conversation - supporting our challengers in their quest! :cheer:

This thread is specifically for those of you who are eager to commit to 30 consecutive days of eating 100% raw foods and seeing miraculous results!

I will start a new challenge thread on the first of every month. If I forget... send me a quick email and remind me... I'll get the challenge thread online for you quickly.

The focus of the monthly challenge is on staying raw and accountability. Therefore, if you have eaten all raw and then slip up and have something cooked, don't beat yourself up over it or dwell on it - but this is not space to discuss it. You are more than welcome to document it in your journal/blog or ask for help in the discussion area, but it is not necessary (and not allowed) to discuss your slip-up here in the challenge threads, just get right back on track and keep going! This thread is about celebrating what you are eating that IS raw!

I welcome you all to share pics of your dishes, ask questions, share what you are consuming (as long as it's raw). We are here to listen to your emotional and physical challenges. So share share share!!! :hug

OH and the best part of this (not only the support but...) you can subscribe to this thread and get notified every time someone posts to it. This way you will be connected!

So let's get this party started!!!

Day one! Woo-hoo!

I started my morning with a smoothie: sunflower seed milk, spinach, mango, blueberries and chia seeds. So thick I had to eat it with a spoon!

And as I'm typing this, I'm munching on a handful of almonds.

While I've tried raw on and off for the past 7 years, my longest stint was only 3 weeks. I'm excited to be starting on the first of the month and having the support of everyone else taking part in the May Challenge!

So I thought I could wait after the performance to start the diet and I looked in the mirror and just felt horrible about myself... I realized there's no way I can wait. I started out the day with a raw smoothie with an apple, banana, kale, and an avocado and a handful of almonds.

Has anyone ever had eating raw help with anxiety? I've been super anxious lately... hoping it will help.

I have been drinking green juices of the morning and eating fruit till lunch. Then I have a big salad. The evening was when I either went vegan with a Subway Veggie sandwich or was taken out by my guy and tried to eat as light as possible. This was my routine for the past 4 months.
I had planned to use May to learn how to make some RAW dense "mealtime" recipes and rack up more all RAW days. Roy, the man in my life, and I were vacationing in June for two weeks and I intended to try for July's challenge. But life decided to interupt. My daughter's mother in law is losing a 3 year battle with cancer and there will be a funeral in a week or two. And Roy got tested at his doctor's insistance (thank God) and now is having triple bypass surgery this Thursday. I have an anxiety disorder and take Xanex for it. Ever since I drove Roy to the doctor and heard about the operation, I have really been stressed. Cravings were coming back. (I lived on Diet Coke, sugar and fried meat before this January)
So even though I don't feel I have enough recipes to really get me through, I want to try the challenge now. I really need an hourly day by day focus to keep my mind off of other events I have no control over.
I am doing this with just a regular blender, and good juicer. I don't own a dehydrater or the wheatgrass type of juicer. I do have a small food processor to grind up nuts.
I live an hour out of Dallas where there is a RAW restaurant. I plan to reward myself each weekend I can with a gourmet meal there.
No one I know supports this. More fruits and salads vs. candy and Diet Coke, yes- all RAW food "That's crazy!"
I have Arthritis as well as the anxeity problems and my knees are swelling (probably the stress). I also use estrogen patches. The money for the medicines add up and I dream that I will see a dramatic change that will push me to continue and hopefully be able to drop the costly meds.
This morning I made carrot/apple juice, ate a banana and drank orange juice as Roy ate breakfast. I've had about 5 clememtines since then. I'm trying to save the big salad for dinner.
I am 58 years old, 5'4" and weigh 145.

Today was

Sugar Snap Pea pods for breakfast

Kale spread with Pistacio nut butter and diced red peppers for lunch

Dandelion greens, shaved cucumber, pine nuts, and avocado with a raw dijon, peanut oil, and vinegar dressing

Happy May, fellow participants!

I wish I liked dandelions ... as a forager I should but they are just too bitter for me.

Not a bad day here. Lots of fruit, veg, salad, nuts and dried fruit. It's going through me like a dose of salts now ...:backsout:

I'm eating a lot and making sure that I enjoy my food. I've decided that if it says it's raw, then it's raw. I'm not going to worry about whether or not my almonds or agave is really raw. (Even though I just read about agave being as bad as HFCS...I'm not going to waste the bottle I bought, but I don't think I'll buy another). Here's what I ate today:

8:00
almond butter cup: almond butter, coconut oil, agave, cacao powder, nutritional yeast

9:00
green smoothie: sunflower milk, blueberries, mango, orange juice, chia seeds, spinach
handful of almonds (15ish)

12:00
“tuna” wrap: sunflower seeds, celery, onion, sea salt, apple cider vinegar
sliced apple with almond butter

2:00
grapes, banana, almonds (10ish)

5:00
green smoothie: blueberries, orange juice, ground flax seed, kale
choco-cado pudding: avocado, cacao powder, agave

And if I'm hungry this evening before bed, I'll have another apple and/or another banana.

TO VICKIE:

Sorry you're having such a rough time right now! If it makes you feel any better, I don't have that "stuff" either. I'm just using a blender and a food processor. I do own a dehydrator, but it's tucked away in the basement and I'm not digging it out! (We're starting to show the house next week).

the juicing attachment on my food processor broke today. It's been a cross-patch for a while now and finally gave up. I can't afford a juicer just now but will start saving.

Going to post about food soon... but for now... can I just say... it is SO EXCITING to be able to post in this thread. A couple months ago I had to dip out of the challenge b/c it was hard to not talk about my pregnancy cravings.

Happy to say: BABY LOVES RAW FOOD AS MUCH AS MY BODY ALWAYS HAS!

How lucky am I? My cravings are for, like, KALE! lol!

Eva, happy to have you here for May! :-)

Today was a great day.. the weather was gorgeous again, so we got up early and went to the farmer's market to stock up on green goodness. Then we went on a nice long hike and ate a lunch of an orange and a flax cracker at the top of a huge hill. Now we are home, and I have no idea what we're doing for dinner.. most likely a big salad.

I'm also kind of craving some raw ice cream, and I think there must be a way to do it. Maybe with almond or cashew milk & berries? But then I guess I'd need an ice cream maker too..

Hope everyone else is having a great day too! Welcome to May, woohoo!

Okay I am going to try this.

I have a lot of health problems that are really starting to scare me. I just have to stick around here for as long as I can. My husband is autistic and so is my son.

I started a Gluten free diet in feb. I sleep better and the pains in my stomach are not as bad but the other pains I think have maybe gotten worse so I have to do something.

So this is where I am turning. And I know nothing. I don't eat veggies and really probably can't tell you the names of most of them if you pointed to them. But I am going to do this.

I haven't eaten much today but it has been all raw. So any help I can get will help. Plus the cheaper the better we go to food banks and they don't give raw food so this will be a stretch but the Lord will provide.

Thanks everyone.
Peggy

For ice cream, just stick frozen bananas in the blender! Once they're all blended, they have a soft serve texture. Sooooooooooo good!

Made it through April, but started feeling tempted to stray around the end of the month. Hoping this will keep me focused.

My goal is to be 100% raw for the rest of my life, but I've had that goal a dozen times before and never made it more than 4 months.

Maybe tips from the long-term raw foodies would give us some inspiration for May?

Lunch therefore was an enormous salad with garlic & date dressing.

After a break in the cold winter months, I'm finally back on raw again, and LOVING it.

These days I'm loving my fruit salad with honey or agave and cacao nibs, and also dried coconut if I have some.

Also these days I was eating pate with sunflower seeds and veggies.

Mixed fruits and veggies here and there...

We will have left overs for dinner. My biggest issue is making sure I have food on hand! Now she has tow ork on school work I have an hour or so of work and then off to drivers ed for her and the gym for me. We are in Tx for 4 months to work on personal things for my 16 yo and my health for me-I have only lost 20 lbs over the last 4 months and I have about 80 to go so I am REALLY wanting to work hard to be involved in thsi challenge!! Having a good day! Today's our anniversary, so I decided to make the little honeybee recipe that was posted previously on this site. They turned out really cute, and the hubby loves them... the only thing I changed from the recipe is that I decided to give our bees stingers at my hubby's request. :-) Here's a pic...

Cr-aaa-zy day at work. But the food was good::heart

B-2 oz wheat grass shot and a 32 oz green juice
L- a smoothie of chard, kale, cuke, & cilantro with a handful of pumpkin seeds
S-mesclun mix with avocado, sun dried tomato, almond oil, sweet potato vinegar, and slivered almonds

I have been snacking on 15-20 chlorella tablets a day. They give me energy, and are strangely satisfying, somehow.

This whole program is helping my CF. In fact, I just finished 45 minutes on the treadmill. Before raw, even though on an unprocessed-no-junk-vegan diet, I could barely do 15 minutes, and then I'd have to rest afterward.

Have a great night, all.

All RAW-- green juice, Lava soup (very good), salad and fruit for dinner. Raisons and pecans for snacks.
Problems-still having embarassing flatulence. Taking $16 worth of pills a month to deal with it. Plus last night I had painful bloated gas that required about 5 TUMS to calm down. I haven't had to use them since I quit Diet Coke 4 months ago. And it looks like anti-diarrhea medicine is going to be next.
I still want to hang in there and see if things settle down. There are all of you on this site who have done this for years and I know you aren't taking meds to correct problems it causes. Hopefully, my body will adjust. I used to drink my juice through a straw and read that causes you to swallow air and causes gas so I changed that. The web sites claim stress effects the colon and cause some of this. So Maybe after My friend's operation Thursday and the upcoming funeral in San Antonio things will improve.
I'm going to buy RAW chips to have because that's the snack item I will miss the most.
One great thing- I had massive cravings to just chunk the progress I had made over the past 4 months and eat a stack of chocolate and ice cream last Friday and now that I am committed to this challenge, the cravings have stopped!

@Leti, one thing that might be helpful is to not think of non-raw things as goodies... just think of how much they drain your energy and how nutrient deficient those things are! If I am out to lunch with friends, that's what I think about, and I find that I stop craving them on the spot. :-)

This is brilliant. We really do have to redefine what a "treat" is......and raw teaches us that the greatest treat of all is feeling great, having energy, and loving the way we look. SAD offers only an early grave.

Wassup with the mango reaction?

speltrong
05-03-2011, 08:45 PM
@Moringa, apparently the skin of a mango contains a chemical that can cause a poison ivy like reaction wherever the skin touches. Not in everyone, but in some people. Well, I've eaten a couple of mangos in the last week (they were on sale), and they were so good that I was putting the skins up to my lips and using my teeth to get the yummy fruit off. Then I started getting these hives on the corner of my lips and now it's spread to be all over my lips. And it just burns and itches! I googled it and it was obvious that the mangos are to blame. :-(

Hello,

I am terrible about not writing down my recipes so I don't have exact measurements, I usually do it by taste.

Raw Cranberry Orange Bread
I vita mix 2-3 oranges for the juice & zest the peels to add some to the mix
raw pecans
agave
dried sweet cranberries

Blend oranges then add in raw chopped pecans, a little agave if it's too tart, add in cranberries (I like a lot), add orange zest to taste. Spread out on your dehydrator and cook over night at 105. Next time I make it I will actually try to write down measurements sorry

My favorite is an apple walnut bread-- can you tell I like sweets.

Vitamix 2-3 red apples for juice add water if it needs to be thinned out
add in chopped walnuts or pecans
cinnamon & vanilla to taste (I like a lot of cinnamon)Add as many raisins as you like (I like a lot)
The use a food processor and chop 1-2 red apples to mix into the batter--once it is dehydrated the small apple chunks are chewy and warm and it tastes like warm apple pie!

I was going to make these next week again so I will write the recipe down this time.

Yum, I will try that one! I do a rasberry & blackberry sorbet thats pretty good and very easy.

1 sm pkg of freah rasberries
1 sm pkg of fresh blackberries
Blend in the vitamix add water if needed and agave to taste (not to smell because it does not smell like it tastes, it actually does not smell very good at all) Then put in freezer to chilla nd then place in your ice cream spinner till firm. It's a good summer sweet! I am trying to avoid too much fruit because it makes me want sugar, so I am mostly sticking with veggie meals, but this summer after I have some time under my belt I am going to make some sweets!

My first day went well.
Nice fruit salad in the morning.

I made some tortilla like things by blending 1/3 c quinoa, 1/3 c sunflower seeds, and a tomato and dehydrating them. It made 6. They turned out nice. We ate them with coleslaw and sunflower seed cheese sauce. Nice!

In the evening we just felt like eating, so we had frozen banana ice cream with carob sauce and nuts, then a mango and more nuts!

Interesting... even though I ate so much I still lost weight!

day whatever ... I really haven't been counting though I suppose I could look at the date! still raw. I'm going out for a meal tonight so we'll see if I find that tricky. I plan to take my own dressing and maybe some sprouted lentils, peas and aduki. I will then order a plain, large green salad and see if I can't add my secret stash of raw goodies.

Breakfast: Green Smoothie
Lunch: Raw Cheezits, dried mango, and an avocado

Spent the day cleaning out my cave-uh-pantry. There were no survivors. ;-)Carted almost 2 dozen of bags of food off to the food bank.

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well.. Moringa, good idea about putting nuts in your smoothie! I might steal that from ya and try it myself!

Today's food was:
breakfast: a raw chocolate truffle (what a wonderful treat!)
lunch: vegan raw pizza at whole foods
dinner: homemade raw corn chips dipped in salsa and guacamole

Also, hubby and I bought a regional parks pass today with the idea that we will hike every one of them before the end of the year, and check each one off on our list. We were getting bored with our usual hike, so decided to try something a little different. I know that's not directly related to eating raw food, but it's something that keeps us feeling good & motivated, so thought I would share. :-)

It is so nice and motivating to read your successes!

Today was day 3 for me.

Breakfast - Fruit salad - banana, papaya, strawberries

Lunch - Large salad, cucumbers, sunflower seed dressing, and some tortilla like things. I made them from quinoa and sunflower seeds as a base with greens, cucumbers, basil, garlic, onion and a little salt, blended and dehydrated. NICE!
A little bit of almond coconut milk was awesome!

Dinner - We ordered a air popcorn popper online just before I found this website and joined the challenge. It came today, sooooo...
Anyway, along with that I had a mango and some nuts.

This is great fun! and I've lost 2.2 lbs in 3 days! Thanks everyone for helping me stay motivated!

Im definitely in for May, this will be my third month 100% raw! - Sort of late posting in here.

Todays food:
Smoothie - mangos and chia seed
Head of romaine lettuce w/ sliced cucumber
2 raw "pizza" crackers
Whole medium watermelon
10 bananas

I really wish I would of ate more fruit today, but I guess Ill just make up for it tomorrow. I at least ate 2500 calories today which is my minimum daily goal. After doing a bit of research, Ive found eating a very high fruit diet works best for me and keeping the fats lower. I havent had a single cooked food craving since upping my fruit(carbs). :throwhearts:

Its great to see everyone else here thriving and enjoying raw, I wish everyone new to this months challenge the best!

Hi there!

I started my 30 day challenge today! I am so excited to find this site, because I know that support and accountability is so necessary, given that this way of eating is so countercultural.
I LOVE it though! I read several books about raw eating a couple of years ago. I have eating raw twice: once for two weeks, once for one week. I am gearing up for a longer time span of eating raw, and would like to do this long term.

I haven't posted in a few days, but have been sticking with 100% raw. Last night, we went to Cafe Gratitude (a local vegan restaurant with lots of raw dishes) and I had their deep dish pizza and hubby had their enchiladas. Both were amazing! So, I bought their cookbook (hopefully it's okay to mention other cookbooks here), and tonight for dinner I am making raw chile rellenos.. stuffed with a cumin-cashew cheese, and battered with a macadamia-coconut mixture. I'm also going to make raw "refried beans" and a salad to go with that for dinner. If it turns out good, I will post a pic. :-)

Dinner will be some sprouted pea soup with avocado, carrots, greens, kelp, garlic and onions for flavor.

Along with that we will have a nice salad with fresh lettuce and young greens I just picked from the garden. :eat

I've been trying to grow some sprouts (lentil, mung, peas, and garbanzos). It's been two days and the lentils look dead. The garbanzos are ready today. I have never tried them before, but once I tasted one it seemed like I couldn't quit! I think snacks like this could pretty easily take the place of popcorn! They could be seasoned a little and they would be fabulous!

Lunch: Plums and more kale chips :p
Dinner: Kale Salad, Raw mint ice cream, apple raisin bread, and kombucha

First, I used my leftover spinach tortillas that I made for yesterday's burritos, and then topped it with a scallion-almond hummus, then I topped that with some veggies that i'd marinated in lemon juice and shoyu and ginger. Then I wrapped up the tortilla and dipped it into a delicious raw jalapeno-mint-chutney that I whipped up (sorry, that's not in the pic). Here's the pic:

Then for the star of the dinner, I made Tom Kha soup. First I made my own coconut milk by blending the water and flesh of a young thai coconut, then to that I added garlic, lemongrass, jalapeno, nama shoyu and lime juice. I blended it all up, and then strained it through a cheesecloth to get a nice thin broth. Then the broth went on top of lots of veggies: kale, cherry tomatoes, burdock, daikon, red pepper, etc. Here's the pic:

I found the spinach tortilla recipe in the Cafe Gratitude cookbook.. it's ridiculously simple.. 8 oz of spinach processed to a pulp in your food processor, add 1 tbsp of ground flax, and a little bit of salt & lemon. Then, let it dry until the whole top of it looks dry (no wet spots), then flip over for just a very short time to dry the other side. This is enough to make one big tortilla, so I actually quadrupled the recipe. The cool thing is that if they dry out too much, you can revive them by spritzing water on them!

today I had a crazy craving for sauerkraut, so for dinner i had both kim chee and lemon dill kraut with a few crackers. Yummo!

Then, tonight, we made almond/cashew milk out of some nuts we've been soaking.. it was my first time ever making nut milk and I couldn't believe how easy it was and how good it tastes! And then I didn't want to throw the nut pulp away, so I spread it out on our dehydrator sheet, and then topped it with agave, cinnamon, and cacao powder. I am hoping by the morning it will be something akin to biscotti. We shall see, and if it is at all pretty or tasty, i'll post a pic tomorrow. :-)

Other than that, we are just getting ready for our trip to London next week.. really excited. I found a place called "Raw Fairies" that is going to deliver a whole day of raw food items to our hotel each morning, so it helps to know we'll stay on track with the eating.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Too late to start? I've been eating probably 90% raw for last month, but the 10% is bugging me:eek:. Will continue on my 100% efforts! I have plenty of salads during the day, but what concerns me is the amount of sugar/carbs (from fruits and grains) and fat (from nuts) that I feel I eat. I try to limit the fruits (apples/cantaloupes/strawberries/orange juice - each at a time!) in my green juices, but then there is the fruit snacks or raw sprouted buckwheat/quinoa cereal snack. Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe I just get a bit overwhelmed because I feel I have to eat differently from my husband and kids (they eat well, but not all raw), so I end up making food for them and then me. Dehydrating and/or juicing take time! Anyway, I love the way I feel with raw food so I will continue to try :cheer: (yeih for me!).

I would love to hear comments on the sugar and fats of raw food - yes, I know they are good sugars from fruits and good carb grains AND they are good fats, but I still feel it's too much. Comments?

THANKS!

mlbettner, I am feeling the same as you about the sugars and fats, actually i've been pretty confused on this issue, some say not to eat so much of that stuff and some say you can live on fruits only , honestly for me that's the most frustrating thing about eating Raw is that I have been so confused about the info lol, maybe I just need to stop reading books and articles and just eat lol

Lady Green Jeans, how did your papaya turn out? That sounds tasty!

Today for dinner, I made a "macro bowl", using grated and chopped celery root mixed with a pine nut/garlic paste as the rice, and then topped with grated carrot, pea sprouts, kim chee, and a few terikyaki almonds.

The teriyaki almonds are incredible.. you just make a paste of dates, garlic, ginger and nama shoyu, and then coat soaked almonds. Then dehydrate for two days. I obviously cheated and pulled a few out early to top my macro bowl with.. if there are still any left when they're done in two days, I will post a pic.

The recipe also got me thinking.. the mix of kim chee and the teriyaki almonds was so good that I am thinking of mixing them together (kim chi and teriyaki paste) to top some asian greens (maybe bok choy), sort of like a sweet & sour asian dish. I might try that when we are back from our trip.

I am going straight raw starting Monday tomorrow. I have got my dog and horse on the healthiest raw diet possible....it is now time for me. Of course the kids and hubby still want their junk foods....I am still working on them.

Wish me luck because my big vice is the coffee in the AM. For a couple of weeks I drank the chai tea lattes...however, I still need to stay away from the half and half and the yogurt since that is not vegan. I do need the probiotic effects of the greek yogurt though...gonna be hard to give up.

and the cheese.....:woot:

Had a great day today. We went on a long hike down to a beach, and then did some rock climbing to avoid sleeper waves and rip tides in order to make it over to another beach. It was totally secluded and fun, and we saw a harbor seal pup sunning himself on one of the beaches, so cute (though our dog didn't think he was cute at all!). After that, we went to a local vegetarian restaurant and ate a gigantic raw salad with avocado dressing. What a perfect day. And even though I don't have a picture of food today, I thought I'd share a picture that we took of the seal.. it definitely made me appreciate nature, so it's kind of in the spirit of this message board, right? :-)

I strayed from my raw diet last night because I was craving a burrito. I actually don't feel as guilty as I thought. #1 I totally couldn't eat as much burrito as I used to be able to. And after satisfying my craving I have no cravings for non-raw food whatsoever and am happy to go back to being completely raw. Hopefully next month I can do it without any mess ups at all.

ate quite a lot yesterday but all raw ... awake really early though. 5.20 am here at the moment.

May go back to bed for a quick half hour before work.

I have lots of sprouts to take with me for lunch along with toms and maybe some cucumber and lettuces.

skin on my hands feels dry ... otherwise I feel good.

It was a cold rainy day yesterday here in Vermont and Lake Champlain is still over it's banks due to flooding. When will the sun shine? Yesterday I had a Green Smoothie for breakfast with rapini, bananas, wheatgrass, maca powder, spring greens, rejuvelac,1/2 avocado, strawberries and spirulina. Lunch was some raw crackers with peanut butter and a large slice of watermelon. Dinner was a salad of corn, raw brushetta, mushrooms and sprouted greens in a lemon, olive oil, agave vinaigrette.

I am sprouting lentils to make a chili and I have walnuts soaking to make a walnut pate.

This forum really does keep you on the path. Thanks everyone.

Hi GreenT, here is the recipe for the almond-scallion hummus:

2.5 cups soaked almonds
1/4 cup + 1 TBSP raw tahini
3/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1.5 tsp chopped garlic
1.75 tsp cumin
1/4 cup + 2 TBSP olive oil (I didn't use this, just threw in a few olives)
1/4 cup + 3 TBSP lemon juice
3/4 cup water
3/4 tsp salt
as many scallions as you want, thinly sliced

In your food processor, grind the drained and rinsed almonds. Add the tahini, pepper, garlic, cumin, oil (or olives), lemon juice, salt, and HALF the water. DON'T add the scallions yet. Process until you reach a creamy consistency. Add the rest of the water, and more garlic, cumin, lemon juice, or olive oil as desired for taste. When happy with the taste, dump the mixture into a bowl and then fold in the sliced scallions.. I used a LOT, a whole bunch of them, but just add them according to taste.

I got this recipe from the cookbook by Cafe Gratitude, called "I Am Grateful"... this is their almond hummus recipe which I modified to add lots of scallions. So good, hope you enjoy!

Not sure yet what we will do for lunch/dinner. We may just eat out at our local raw restaurant because I don't have anything left in the house!

I was extremely tired today and it felt almost like a burnout. I took a nap and found it hard to get up. I've been doing some reading on adrenaline burnout and don't know if this could be my case. I've stopped drinking coffee but I do enjoy matcha green tea in the morning with raw almond milk.

Doing well onto Day 3. Have been eating mostly salads (my daughter actually made me one for dinner yesterday that was delicious :throwhearts:). I finished dehydrating the Kale Chips and Sweet Potato Chips last night - they were so good - I needed snacky food! Stopped drinking my Green Juices for some reason, but plan to restart today.

Oh yes, my family and I continue to plant our organic garden at the farm! The weather hasn't permitted it lately, but things are looking up. Each one of the kids has their 10x10 plot - they are enjoying planting their own favorite veggies and flowers in it, I have the rest of the 40x64 area - lots of tomatoes, basil, lettuces, bok choy, chards, broccolis, cauliflowers, cucumbers, squashes, herbs of all kinds, beans of all kinds, radishes, carrots, beets, corn, and the list goes on! (can't wait to eat it and juice it all), and my husband is building the trellises for peas and beans and the borders for the perennial veggies and fruits (asparagus, strawberries and blueberries).

I did my first organic garden last year and it was wonderful, only I did lots of rows. This year I wanted it to be different so am doing more smaller plots with combinations of veggies.

A little about my family --- My husband and I both homeschool our 3 children (11 year old girl, 9 year old boy and 6 year old girl) in a farm environment, where my husband grew up. We built a cabin in the woods at his parents' and brother's farm about 9 years ago, so we are about a 1/2 mile into the woods from them. Almost 2 years ago now, my husband and I decided to get out of the "fast-track" life we were leading in NC, where he travelled a lot for work, and move back here to actually spend more time with the kids and watch them grow (what a novel idea!!). That also gave us the opportunity to travel south to FL (from IL) to visit my side of the family during the winters here, travel farther south to Peru to visit more of my family (I am Peruvian), and also to travel elsewhere with the kids, all the while being able to continue schooling. We love it so far, even though it can be challenging! Another reason we did this was to really focus on nutrition, as we now eat 3 meals (+snacks) at home actually sitting around a table together!

Enough about us! Hope everyone is well today! :heart

Lunch: Horiatki salad with alfalfa sprouts and lemon tahini dressing

Dinner: Almond falafel with courgette hummus, and turkish salad with cashew nut yogurt.

I haven't planted my garden yet because we have had so much rain here in Vermont. But today I decided to visit the garden to scrounge for lambs quarters and sure enough the garden from last year already has a hearty crop of this weed.

Last year I spent a good part of my time trying to rid the garden of this weed not knowing that it is an incredible edible weed. I picked a large bunch and used it in my smoothie. It's a powerhouse of nutrition an anti inflammatory and very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Niacin, Folate, Iron, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Potassium, Copper and Manganese. And it's free and organic in the wild. This green has a mild flavor all season, never turning bitter like dandelion greens. It is high in protein and has more calcium than kale. It also has appreciable amounts of omega 3 fatty acids and add wild purslane to a salad or smoothie daily to get your dose of omega threes.

A half-cup serving (110 grams) contains over 300 mg of calcium (Swiss chard has 88g, spinach 93g) and 11,600 IU of vitamin A activity. (Swiss chard has 6500, spinach 8100.) Lamb's quarter greens are also an excellent source of B vitamins, especially riboflavin and folic acid. And they are more than four percent protein.

Amazing!! I'm posting a picture.

So that's the scoop on lambsquarters. So my green smoothie today had plenty of lambsquarters along with banana, strawberries, maca powder, wheatgrass powder, rejuvelac and dates.

Lunch: spring green salad with watermelon and avocado raw ranch dressing, and a banana

Snack: 2 raw crackers with almond butter

Dinner: Tiny Thai restaurant salad with thai ginger dressing, banana cacao ice kream.

I ate quite a bit today but then I spent most of the day engaged in physical labor refinishing and sanding antiques.

Hi Everyone!
I know its almost the end of May... and I am only just "starting".
I have been eating raw for about 2 weeks now, and I LOVE IT!
I only just stumbled across this today, and thought.... why not begin - officially :)
SO.... As it is my OFFICIAL day one..
Today's raw little pleasures included:

Green Juice - Kale, Cucumber, Apple & Pear

Raw Sushi - WOW!!! THIS was AMAZING! First time I have made it... I blended Cauliflower, Brazil Nuts, Parsley, Mexican Chilli, Celtic Sea Salt, Pepper and Olive Oil together to make the "rice" - this was SO GOOD i could have eaten it all without even getting to the sushi part! hehe

Raw Museli - I put some Sunflower seeds, pepitas, almonds, walnuts and gogi berries into a bowl, sprinkled some raw cacao and added nut milk!

Oh how I LOVE life, and all of its little blessings!
Happy Today!

I keep feeling so sick and I messed up and ate SAD food... I felt better but I feel so guilty... is anyone else getting so sick? I am tired all of the time it is so horrible.
Dougal, you may be feeling unwell due to your body cleaning itself out & detoxing?? I was feeling a little unwell in my first two weeks, and when I started listening to my body, I realised it was because a lot of the toxins and things that my body was holding onto, that it didnt need anymore, were becoming un-stuck and releasing. My energy levels were low too.

When you feel like this, its important to really LOVE yourself and be SO KIND to yourself... really aknowledge what you are doing for your body and for YOU!!
You CHOSE to take this journey for a reason, and you should be really proud of yourself for doing so!! We all have our down days, our days where we feel like giving up, like its not working, etc. THOSE DAYS are the most important and THOSE days are the ones that make your jouney so amazing when you look back on it. EMBRACE them with a smile on your face & your heart!

I found that by taking time out to sleep a litle more than I normally do, and resting my body, and taking some quality ME time away from the hussle & bussle of the world, doing the things that I LOVE to do - drawing, singing, meditating, walking, etc. really helped me through it :)

Good Luck!

Todays fine eating:
B-a bowl of pineapple chunks
L-oganic raisins and cashews while doing laundry and housework
D-cucumber and last of the raw hummus
S-went dancing so took a bag of raisins and cashews so I would have a snack.

effortlessvegan--I have not made it to the farmers' market in time to buy some of the lambs quarters from the one organic farmer who carries them--they seem to sell out early. Look forward to trying them soon. Thanks for sharing the nutritional info--sounds like a powerhouse add to smoothies.

Hi all~I haven't fallen off the wagon, or the planet.

Just swamped, and still 100% raw. There have been some tough days, and a few of those have had more food intake than usual, but it was raw.

This weekend held a special moment: Instead of shopping in the PLUS sizes, I tried on some normal sizes, and XL fit! I started vegan about 10 months ago at a size 3X, and was a 2X when I started raw. :throwhearts:

And my nephew informed me that he has been vegetarian for a week, and is loving it. The trickle down effect......

Have a great week.

Hi all, just got back from London and I'm already missing it there! Though I was glad that we got out before the volcano canceled our flight (even if it did turn into a 14 hour flight because of rerouting). Had a great trip and stayed 100% raw the whole time. Raw Fairies delivered food to our hotel the first three days, and the last three days we fended for ourselves by shopping at whole foods (which also happens to have a raw restaurant inside of it!). So we did really well on that front. The not so good news is that our five star hotel had BEDBUGS! So poor hubby and I have bites all over, ugh.

Since being home I've been in a jetlagged daze. Have eaten out a couple of times at a raw restaurant, but I'm hoping tomorrow I'll get the dehydrator going and start with a more regular schedule of smoothie, salad, etc.

Hope everyone else has been doing well and sticking to it!

tomato lettuce onion avo with dressing.

Went for a walk (brisk) round the park with the dog first.

I'm so full of energy I have been pirouetting across my office today - I'm so glad I work where I do. They don't bat an eye-lid!

MysticTree, You sound like such a happy spirit. So glad you found the raw path to stay happy and healthy.

Doing a lot around the house today--my off work Friday.

Started the day with grapefruit juice and had a half a hothouse cucumber with hummus and just took a little break and enjoyed a banana.

Will have the last of the papaya papperdelle with sauce for supper later. If I get hungry before then, I have a half an avocado from yesteday that I can enjoy.

Hope you are all having a great raw day.

Thank you :)

I have found raw before but it's been an on-again-off-again affair ... it feels more permanent this time - ah the wisdom that comes with turning 40!!!

Day 29 for me now.

Had a lie in this morning as I woke at 1:30am having had enough sleep and could drop off again for ages.

Lots to do in the garden this weekend and some shopping (raw) to catch up on.

Bought my first watermelon of the season yesterday, which about half went for a batch of watermelon gazpacho (lunch for today). I had a bowlful of the chunks yesterday and just enjoyed another bowl of chunks this morning. I just love all the summer fruits but melons are hands down my favorites.

Will be making a banana carob smoothie shortly to hold me over. Am getting some help in getting the last, large items out of storage. That will be nice to have that monthly expense back in my budget for something else.

Today's projected raw fare:

B-watermelon, banana carob smoothie
L-will be watermelon tomato gazpacho
S-if I need the stamina will have a mango, pear, banana or apple
D-not sure but maybe something heavier since I have ballroom/swing dance tonight.

Hope you all have a great raw day ahead! Cannot believe how May went so very fast.

Have had a rough few days after coming home from our trip, which I whined about in a different post. While I wasn't craving cooked food, I was really wishing for the convenience of being able to order food in, etc. I didn't give in though and stayed 100% raw, and now I'm back to feeling like myself again. Jet lag sucks, for the record. :-) Anyway, here's what I'm eating today:

B: banana
L: huge salad with baby lettuces, fresh corn from the cob, a few olives, and some pistachios.
D: probably an orange or maybe a peach. :-)

Hope everyone else is doing well... the month's almost over!!

Hi everyone - see alot of new people have joined in the fun and health !

I haven't posted in a while due to a family emergency health issue and was doing the juice fast before that. Also, I lost too much weight - couldn't get enough juice into me to sustain calories.
Made the decision to do as much juicing as I can and add some fruit and salad in between.

I had pineapple, orange and strawberry juice this AM.
An apple with tahini for lunch
Kombucha throughout the day
watermelon for dinner
snacking on some oat crackers

Tomorrow will probably follow the same, but for lunch will make a salad with guacamole and all the regular stuff in the salad

Tomorrow I will take the time to get to know the newbies and read what's been going on.
Andie

how mad is that? 30th May already!

I have a pineapple that needs eating today so that takes care of breakfast which I will have shortly.

I'm up early too even though today is a Bank Holiday here. Weather remains dull.

Hi Zoe,

Are you anywhere near Bristol? It would be good to have a UK gang of RFT members but so often people don't say where they are so it's hard to tell.

I am looking forward to the June challenge. My bf is having trouble with my buoyant mood though; I'm too bouncy!

my 30 days is up ... I've reviewed it in brief in my blog. My next 30 days begins today :)

Strangely Bristol is pretty rubbish but we do have a nice organic supermarket and there are probably raw places I haven't found yet.

We'll have to see if we can get something going :)

I'm joining for June. May has been about 70% but I can tell the difference. I started a bit of acne and my energy level is down. I need to better prepare myself when I travel. I had a long 13 hour drive to visit my parents then 2 days there and another 13 hour drive back home. I lost it by drinking way too much caffeine to keep awake and snacked on junk. But I'm back on track this month. This forum and everyone here is a godsend. It really keeps me motivated. When I'm raw I feel really great.
Yesterday:
B: A green smoothie with lambsquarters from the fields, pineapple, banana, dates, rejuvelac, watercress, wheatg rass powder, maca powder, gotu kola powder
L: salad with boston lettuce, cabbage and a veggie wrap
D: spiraled noodles from 1/2 yam with a Vietnamese salty/sweet almond dressing, cubed watermelon

This evening I have made a wonderful tabbouleh with sprouted brown rice, handfuls of chopped mint, cucumber, tomato, red pepper and a little dressing.

I have served it on a bed of mixed green salad and topped it with a sliced avocado.
