Hi,

I just want to say that I tried doing a search, but the function didn't read my entry properly. : (

I have been soaking buckwheat and flax seed lately.
After soaking it in bottled water for the appropriate amount of time and draining it, and placing them back in the fridge, I have noticed that the seeds and buckwheat both get this slime-like residue on them.
It appears to be a coating of oil or something. I have not gotten sick, but it's hard to feed non-rawfoodies something like this when the food looks "slimey."--Eww.

Do some foods release oil more than others?
How can deal with the oil the accumulates on the foods so I can serve them to others?

I can't always rinse, drain, and serve people these foods immediately. They need time to absorb the spices and seasonings in the fridge for a few hours--but that's when they get slimey. : (

Buckwheat needs 2 or 3 rinses before the ooze stops coming out and flax can't actually be rinsed, it is better used as an ingredient that benefits from it's gelatinous ooze such as flax crackers, energy bars or anything that requires a binding agent.

I will soak buckwheat overnight and then sprout for 2 days doing many rinses during this time. It stays slimey even after the final rinse.... There's nothing wrong with it - that's just the way it is.

But - you do want to rinse it as well as possible. I try to get off as much of that goo as I can. *Ü*
