Hello all!

Well, here I am...almost 26 years old and I've decided it's about damn time I make some changes for the better. I can't say it was an epiphany...I've known about raw foodism for quite awhile and it was a slow realization that I needed to really step up to the plate and do this.

I have a 2 year old daughter, and recently (2 months in) divorced. I'm happy with my weight. I'm mainly doing this to rid of all the physical AND emotional toxins in my body. I'm in serious need of mental clarity at this time in my life. I also have Fibromyalgia...

I started last week and made it 3 days but crashed and ate Indian food that a friend made for dinner. SO, I started over the next day, and now I'm three days in again. Serious headache, backache, some chest pains, and soooo exhausted. Also very anxious. Some serious detox is in progress I suppose.

My current issue is, I just can't cut out the coffee. I think I'm addicted to it, gggrrr. Tea just isn't the same! Anybody else have this problem? How did you kick it? Do any of you find it ok to continue drinking coffee while on a raw food diet?

Well, anyway...I'm still so new to all of this and really need to do my research on recipes, especially green smoothie recipes. I've just been eating salads and raw broccoli and avocados, and tons of fruit. I tried to make a green smoothie today and it turned out horrible. Oh well, practice makes perfect. I'm so excited about this new journey, although, I'm trying to go into it without any expectations....just let it lead me. It's been easier than hoped so far, very happy about that. Especially since I buy and prepare so much delicious food for my little one

Nice to meet all of you and join your community! :woot:

Welcome Bird Song! I am new too! I just completed my first week raw. But I had a few slip-ups too. Don’t be too concerned about the slip-ups. Just pick yourself up and keep your eye on the goal. Though some people can go Cold Turkey, it is difficult to do. Maybe try going one week primarily raw, then try to break yourself of the coffee habit but in the meantime work towards smaller and then even smaller cups.

Good luck to you and see you in the threads!

I drank coffee almost my whole life. When I had to give it up, I drank hot water every morning... sometimes with lemon and sometimes with some ginger. It wasn't quite the same, but it tricked my mind into thinking it was getting the same thing. That helped me a little.

I'm no expert, but I will tell you what worked for me.

I was basically 95% raw for a couple weeks before I gave up coffee - coffee & creme being my only non-raw food. During the end of those couple weeks, it occurred to me that coffee was the next thing to give up and I was ready to give it up. So I started reducing my intake until I just gave it up.

If you can, maybe just allow yourself a cup of coffee a day. Or if you have more than one cup, try decreasing the amount you drink each day over time so your body won't have such a shock when you give it up. Then I think it will be a bit easier for you.

Good luck. :-)
