I just read a raw food book that said that fruit should always be eaten alone and not combined with veggies, proteins or starches. This confuses me as I have seen many green smoothies that contain some fruit. Can someone help me understand because I thought that it was perfectly ok to mix these foods.

Greens and celery are not in this category and I believe that they can be mixed with fruit.
Best is to try and see whether you can tolerate such mixes. For me it works best if I eat fruits alone. But yes, I think greens are ok to mix with mostly anything.

When it comes to something like a green smoothie, you should be fine mixing greens with fruit. Most people seem to and they are fine with it. It never bothers me. But obviously, listen to your body.
I always try to eat fruit alone, but if I'm eating a big green salad, I'm fine having a banana as dessert...greens/veggies with fruit don't seem to be that bad of a combination. I think it's fats and fruit that can be trickier for some people.

Food combining makes sense, but generally I don't have problems. Unless watermelon is involved, and then I have to be careful

I've made several different green smoothie combinations and I never have any adverse reactions to any of them. From reading the book, I wanted to make sure that I am getting the proper absorption from the foods because it said something about the fact that certain foods diminish the nutritional absorption of others if consumed at the same time.
Of course I want drink flavorful smoothies so I mix fruit in so that they are palatable, but I also want to make sure that I am getting the nutritional benefit.

as i just said in the fasting thread:
i don't worry about food combining. if a juice doesn't sit well with me, then i don't drink it (at this time). cause sometimes things just don't jive with the body. doesn't mean they never will.
i loooooooove tomato (fruit), cucumber (fruit), beet (veggie), greens, red pepper (fruit), garlic, ginger, fennel (veggie), celery (veggie) juice. so as you can see... mixing them doesn't matter to me.

I occasionally juice carrots and blend it with frozen bananas. I digest it very well and that's what I go by.

I would not go by this alone. It is not just about how well i feel that I digest it but about getting the most nutrients possible from it.
