It is generally held that alcoholism is never cured but then most people think that of type 2 diabetes and we know that it is not true in that case.
That does not mean that you can not get on top of it.
It is also generally held that all habits can be broken in 28 days which is why we have the 30 day challenge.
I think even three weeks should be enough -- do whatever it takes to not drink alcohol for three weeks, not even a tiny bit. Find some hobby to keep you occupied. I don't really think raw food by itself will cure alcoholism.

I have family members who are in AA and I think that it is a great organisation. I would be afraid that the battle to give up cooked food (and it is not easy) would only add to a person's problems if they were also trying to give up alcohol. Perhaps one step at a time.

Green smoothie heal addiction. Once you suffer from this decease, it is for life but manageable, i don't know if raw food can heal it for good but it cans heal the craving
White sugar, white flour, msg, aspartam are poison for anyone suffering with this condition, it makes you crave more this substance..
With raw food, these armful ingredient aren't part of the diet.
Raw food will assist you to heal your body.
All the best

That is so great that you are considering the raw vegan path.
I have read that any addiction (alcohol, food, shopping, any other activity taken to extreme) is learned, can be faced one day at a time, can be replaced with good habits (formed, again, one day at time), and as you improve, so does the co-dependant behavior that originally attracted you to the particular addiction.
I found myself drinking a glass of wine every night. Well, I gave it up for Lent for the challenge and have not missed it--not one single day. My focus each day is on creating vibrant colorful food that is good for my body or eating simply to help my body heal and to drop the unneeded and unwanted extra weight. It has been nothing short of amazing.
Hope some of this helps. Please consider jumping into the April challenge. There is really great support there.

Read up on the possibility of food sensitivities/allergies being behind the alcoholism or the difficulty in overcoming it. I guess the concept is that the food allergies produce the cravings, which one will often feed with alcoholic beverages made from those offending foods (grains usually).

I can only speak for myself, and although I wouldn't classify myself as an alcoholic, I have had issues with drinking and craving it. I'd probably be considered a "problem drinker". I've been about 3 weeks Raw now, so it's pretty new. I started with raw foods to lose weight and clear up my skin, and interestingly enough...have completely lost my interest in booze. It just sits on the counter and I don't even give it a second thought...which is funny because typically that wouldn't be there long...or anything alcohol related lasts very long in my house. So it's been quite a change for me. Also, when I did drink I was able to just have a couple and relax...when before, I didn't know how to stop. I think there is something to it. Again .....just speaking for myself, but it's like night and day.

I wish you good luck on getting free of the alcoholism. I know what its like to take a sip of booze knowing that you could loose control to the point where there's no stopping the drinking until you pass out. The biggest scare for me was knowing that Jeckel & Hyde was waiting in the bottle and could come out anytime. Get yourself free if you can. Good luck

Not that I would know as I very rarely drink but personally I think all disease is cureable. The way to do it is to make sure that you increase your awareness of health in your body. So when you do drink it feels so foreign and wrong that you just physically cant do it. So the way to get to this point is to instill in your life a premium diet of healthy foods (raw is great) as well as lots of exercise and healthy habits in general. Meditation would also help and good sleep. Life is too short to be dwelling in a fog...
some qoutes I like...
I love conciousness too much to drink

i noticed after a week i didn't want to drink nor smoke tobacco while at it 100% raw.
i truely belive it was the raw factor. then went to eating much cooked foods and drank heavily.. am alcoholic now. when i quit... severe withdrawls. what fixes the withdrawls to a HUGE if not complete extent... drink orange juice. some people add honey to it gor an extra. i heard banannas help. there's a reason why so many cookies etc are served in a.a. meetings! alcoholism is much of a sugar withdrawl when we quit... just to name the big one.
it depends on your level of alcoholism to how often you'll "need" a drink. it took me months and people say for 3 years. it's an off n on thing. me... i just love beer. why i relapse all the time. i asked already... no raw beer nor fully without alcohol.

It has been said that alcohol can cure cancer and can save from heart disease, reduces the risk of diabetes and osteoporosis. It reduces stress and makes to feel good. Wine can reduce levels of bad cholesterol and boosting good cholesterol. :encore:

I think that someone has been listening to the alcohol producers lobby. Alcohol is a poison. There is nothing in wine that can help your heart that can not be got from lots of other sources (we are talking about resveratrol) without forcing your body to suffer the negative impact of the alcohol.

There is another thread on the board about the MC... I have been reporting on my adult son and his journey. He is eating raw probably half of the time after transitioning off the Master Cleanse, has lost and kept off over 40 lbs and has lost his taste for beer (which he enjoyed a lot, but not to problem levels) and the ocassional 'social cigarette'. He was more than a little surprised at this point. He's about 3 weeks post MC and was on for about 3 weeks.
He has no intention of being all raw but that's his choice.

Let me first start by saying I know the nature of the beast is much different with alcohol however I feel I have some good points to reflect on in week 2 without smoking after being a half a pack a day smoker for 10 years.
1. When you start eating raw you will begin a much more intimate relationship between mind and body. Sometimes your mind will go mad wondering what is going on with your body.
2. You will feel like total garbage the first week and may even hit a 2nd patch of sickness in the 2nd week. The point is you will feel bad and know that your heart is pounding so hard to clean the toxins you had filled your fleshly temple with. You will undo everything by taking a drink or in my case having a smoke.
3. You will be emotional and may come to terms with how your addiction has affected others. Mine was such that I was poisoning the love of my life with my 2nd hand smoke and created unnecessary stress in her life by being a smoker.
4. Dealing with cravings gets easier for instance when I smell cigarettes they repulse me now however I do occasionally miss my old "friend". But I know I'm better off without him.
I hope this didn't sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo gobbly goo for you. I think going RAW was a key decision that will positively affect my future.

For me getting past the alcoholism was a matter of realizing that booze was not my friend and that I was better off without it then with it. After that it was a matter of avoiding the first sip of booze as the end point of the problem. The answer for me was in my head not in my food.

No, alcoholism is an emotional problem not a physical one and contrary to false popular belief yes, it can be cured. Alcoholism is an escape mechanism.
The only way you could cure it with food is to swap out one addiction for another.
You need to forgive and let go of your anger that's the only cure.
