View Full Version : What makes you feel like you are cheating?

The other day I made raw spaghetti. I made raw tomato sauce and cut up zucchini as the noodles. It was really really good. For the rest of the day I kept thinking that I had messed up and ate SAD food. I had to keep reminding myself I had still eaten raw! Then, last night I had broccoli, carrots and zucchini over kelp noodles with almond butter Thia sauce...again I felt like I was cheating.

So that made me wonder.....what makes you feel like you are cheating?

You shouldn't feel like you are cheating. Just be happy you're enjoying the food because you wouldn't want to develop orthorexia over feelings of guilt, would ya??

I made raw tacos last weekend - with corn tortillas, walnut "taco meat" and cashew cheese. It was amazing! I love Mexican & this really fit the bill for me. It was great.

I know what you mean though, so much of the rawfood is unbelieably delicious.

Nut butter smoothies! They are just so tasty. And if I add cacao or carob, forget about it. :) Even a good fruit smoothie with nut milk makes me feel I'm "cheating" or eating really unhealthy when I know I'm not.

^^^ I feel like I've cheated just by looking at that cake.

For me it's (nut)ice-cream. This was our chocolate mint & vanilla / strawberry:

Can you share the ice cream recipe? It has nuts in it? Do tell! And cacao or carob, I'm guessing?

What a fun thread. For me it was recently taco meat with nacho cheese wraps (so like the SAD alternative) and the carob chia pudding with raspberries. The pudding was just so rich and creamy I had to keep reminding myself that it's raw.

Every time I feel full and sick after a raw dish. It always makes me re-evaluate things.

I was my daughter's birthday cake that i made for her last December. Everyone including the sad food eater loved it.

I do it by eye ball, it is soaked cashew for 5 hours (inside my fridge) then dehydrated for 5 minute. I used the vitamix, through the cashew in, add vanilla beans, honey (or any sweetener), coconut water and coconut meat. This is it. If you want chocolate, you add raw cacao, if you want vanilla, you add nothing, if you want a fruit like the top lair, i used blueberries and strawberied it made a girly color. The crust could be anything.

Maybe it is about 2 cup of cashews, one coconut meat, about one large table spoon of honey, if i do vanilla, i use the vanilla extra no alcohol, and enough water to blend ( as less as possible). You can have an orange taste with the chocolate version, just use orange juice and orange pulp. Just let your imagination go wild. I couldn't bake prior to raw food, with raw food, it is so easy you can come up with anything.

You can freeze it, and you should take it out of the freezer one hour prior to serve. I made the cake the night before her birthday.

Enjoy

ps The crust of this cake was macadamia nut, coconut shred and raisin

Alissa Cohen has an excellent icecream recipe in her new book. It was one of the best that i tasted so far. For my daughter, i had to make it nut free for school so i just do it with only coconut and put in muffin silicon mold and freeze it. I had all kind of interesting shape and it make it appealing.

Oh THANK YOU so much! I have ordered cashews from my co-op and they come in next week and I have a plan to make the "cheesecake, but you have given me some great ideas. I love the orange/chocolate idea.

Thank you again! The cake is beautiful. How did you make it so round? Did you put it into some kind of mold?

Most raw desserts make me feel like I am cheating. :)

And, yes, when I eat raw pasta and noodles, especially with alfredo sauce, I am all, "I can't believe this is raw!!"

Yes, i use a metal baking mold which the bottom come off. This is how it takes it shape.

Have fun with it! On st-Patric day, i make it marble chocolate and green (using spirulina and minth).

So addictive, lol.....

Can I have the recipe for that? Pretty please with a luscious, in season, organic, plump, juicy cherry on top? (Assuming you like cherries?) LOL! Particularly the sauce - the rest is kind of obvious, I would presume.

Fudge Balls and Snicker Bites...so wonderful.
This was going to be my reply - fudge balls. I have never yet gotten into raw gourmet, so I don't have answers like some folks on here. I always hated cooking and raw was the perfect solution. I don't want to "uncook" anymore than I wanted to cook! LOL

Oh please share...what are snicker bites?
I am curious about this one, too. Any new ideas I can come up with to get my kids eating healthier "junk" food is fantastic!

The foods Ive made so far: fudge balls, enchiladas, and banana 'icecream'! After making all these I had to have a double take saying "Wait, these are raw?!"

My fave un-cheat is a Cacao crunchy frosty!

It's 1/2 young thai coconut water, all the *meat, 2 frozen bananas and a tbsp of raw cacao powder zung up in the vitamix then I stir in 1 tbsp of raw cacao nibs. Yummy, creamy bliss!!

Funny enough I found it on RFT. Let me see if I can be computer savy and post the link:

1/2c almond butter
1 chile pepper (I use thai chiles)
I tbsp minced ginger
1-2 clove garlic
2tbsp lemon juice
2tbsp maple syrup or agave depending what you use
1tbsp nama shoyu
salt to taste
water to this out to desired consistency (I like it somewhat thick)

Okay so I cut and pasted. This is it, but I modified it a bit. I ended up putting more almond butter because I like things with a good nutty flavor.

Enjoy!
