I thought I would introduce myself. I am a mom to 4 children, ages 5, 4, 2.5, and 10 months. I love knitting, photography, and being outdoors. I am homeschool as well, but I am tired of being grouchy and out of energy. I know having 4 kids will do that to you, but I know that I can do better. I am just now back to my healthy weight range and want to do better than that. I am just starting out and love the idea. However, my husband is a meat and potatoes kinda guy. Plus we live on a farm and raise our own meat so he thinks I'm even more crazy, lol. I am loving most of what I've tried, although I hate celery. I am hoping maybe one day my taste will grow to love it?? Please tell me it can. I also wonder how the heck everyone gives up that one thing. I am not a coffee/caffinee drinker so that has been easy. However, I seem to have a love affair with McDonalds. Mainly the fries  So how do you break that one habit that keeps dragging you back in? And about how raw is everyone?

I agree with you on the celery. I am not a fan but I realise that it is great for minerals so I juice it with cucumber, apples and greens and have found that I can take it that way.
As for your love affair with McDeath, as in all love affairs that go wrong, time is the best healer. Just go cold turkey.

Welcome!
I also don't like celery much. :)
I do find that my tastebuds changed a lot and I began to appreciate more natural foods, but my dislike for certain textures didn't really change.
Do you plan on feeding your kids much raw food?
Best of luck with it, especially with your DH. But I am sure he will come around if you start to feel better, happier, sexier, etc. :)

I love celery, especially with mango! But I don't like carrots, though I wish I did because they are such a nice easy snack. i like baby carrots but not real, actual carrots. Luckily, I just juice them and drink it down. Yay for veggie juice!
P.S. welcome to raw, mhaddon!

I'm a homeschooling mom to 2 boys and my DH is a carnivore. He has noticed such a change in my sleep (I sleep all night now), my attitude (no more anxiety), my skin (it is really clear and healthy) and my weight (have lost 10 lbs), that he is happy to support my eating raw. I was such a mess for 3 years and tried umpteen diets and supplements to feel better. He went through all of that with me and knows this is the only thing that has worked. He is now wanting to eat less meat and more vegetables. Yay! I figure if I lead by example, he and the kids will benefit, too! Welcome!

I'm trying for 100% raw and my husband is doing a high raw diet with me. He is DEFINITELY a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I started to get him used to the idea of us going raw by adding a huge raw salad to every meal. If I made meat for dinner, I'd couple it with the big salad. If he wanted cooked potatoes, I'd couple that with a big salad. I'd make sweet green smoothies for breakfast.
For his lunch and snacks (which I pack each day), I'd send trail mix, fresh fruit to snack on and a big salad coupled with some tiny portion of something cooked.
No, I wasn't trying to trick him. I did it because I KNOW that we all need more raw fruit and veg.
When I made the announcement that I was going to go all raw, he said he was going raw too -- but high raw. Most days he is all raw, but 1-2 times a week he something cooked at a meal. And, lately, he tells me that I should focus on giving him all raw meals. If he wants something cooked, he'll fix it or by it when he's out of the house.
It can be done!
OH, I almost forgot. His 3 week old pants and shirts are hanging off of him! He's feeling pretty good about the lost inches and is content to stay high raw.
What worked for me getting him to this point was to make sure that raw does not mean "dieting" and "restrictions".
I know this post is ridiculously long!!! I'll stop now.

Just wanted to pipe in to say welcome!
And don't worry, your tastes will change!
I recommend smoothies for getting your buds to be friends with new foods. Especially greens, which are so important and good for you! It used to be the only greens I'd eat were lettuce. Very mild lettuce. After a short time (maybe less than a month) of making green smoothies with kale hidden in them . . . I LOVE kale! Seriously. It's my base green for salads now.
I'm working on spinach next :woohoo:
Welcome to raw and you can do this! You're going to notice lots of positive changes and never want your old SAD staples again! Or if you do, you'll reach to raw instead and find it's so much better!
