Ok, last night I read this article and I really need your opinion on it:
Honey is the product of the bee's stomach. The bee ingests pollen from flowers and, in its stomach, mixes it with formic, manite and other acids. Then the honey is deposited in cone cells and, by the wind created by a multitude of bees wings, substantially dehydrated.
Without these acids and the drying, honey would readily ferment and prove unusable for the bee which must have a dependable food supply for up to eight months in some of the harsher climates. Because of these acids and dehydration, honey is impregnable to bacteria. It is rather poisonous in the human digestive tract.
As a food for us honey is woefully mineral and vitamin deficient. Humans require infinitely more food factors than bees.
While honey contains several very desirable sugars, these have been rendered toxic by the protective acids imparted to them by the bees. These acids are the bees' preservatives. Humans do not have the enzymes to break these acids down, as have the bees, and must rob their bodies of vital base-forming minerals to neutralize the acids.
When humans eat honey, it immediately begins to reabsorb moisture from the stomach and stomach flora. It destroys our symbiotic bacterial population wholesale. Several tablespoons of honey makes most people very sick.
In humans honey, more so than cane and beet sugars, is acid-forming and decalcifying. The body draws calcium from its teeth and bones, if necessary, to neutralize the acids introduced and formed.
Manite acid of honey is a protoplasmic poison. It interacts with protein and from this, forms alcohol, ammonia and carbonic acid.
As eaten, honey is an atrocious food. It is usually added to starches and proteins as a sweetener. It readily ferments when held up in the stomach with other longer-digesting foods. The byproducts alcohol, ammonia and carbonic acid are deleterious to human health.
Honey is, therefore, neither a nutritious nor a safe food. Life Scientists should not use honey as a part of their diet.
OMG!!!! And I really thought that HOney was supposed to be the best sweetener for me.......:backsout:...... Can someone tell me this isn't true!!!...OR.... is it???........

I will keep an open mind and try to investigate. Sadly, i didn't see any reference from where the author took this information.
My friend produce raw honey and i love his product but i am not interested to use poison. It is controversial for sure this article because honey has been known with powerful property of healing. I won't stop consumming honey just yet but i will look into this.
Thank you for sharing.

It isn't recommended to mix with fruit. I remembered that i couldn't mix it with banana, it would cause me to have a bad reaction.
So maybe take and leave. Honey from new Zeland has been known for very high antibacterial effect
It seems that everything in moderation. I must need the honey, because i do crave for it. When i was younger, i couldn't stand honey and it would give me nausea now, i adore it.
I will follow their recommendation about not mixing with fruit, i do resonate with this but i will keep an open mind.
Manite acid doesn't seem to be too good but you do have poison as well in green.
Anyway, it was interesting to read
Thanks for posting the article here, this really explains some things to me.

"Honey must be eaten sparingly, in very small amounts." Our own admonition is: If anything must be eaten in moderation or sparingly, it should not be eaten at all.

I am a bit skeptical about that article, especially since they didn't provide any references to back up their claims. I think anyone who eats honey in small amounts should be ok and it's not going to send you to an early grave. I can't imagine anyone eating huge amounts of honey at a time anyways. It's wayyy too sweet for me to eat a lot of at once. IMO, if we believe everything that we read about some of the foods that we eat, we'll end up eating nothing and won't be able to enjoy anything in the end.

I really don't agree with this. It's way too extreme to say that something should be either able to be consumed in bulk or not at all. That's just silly and it shows no understanding of the balance of our bodies. I mean, consider salt. Without salt in our diets we die. But no one should eat large quantities of it, either.
Some things are meant to be eaten in small quantities. That's why they're not found in large quantities in their natural state.

I agree with this. Sometimes, research on certain foods breaks them down way too much, to the point where if we examine each chemical contained in that food and find that it's "toxic" in large amounts, then we discount that food as something horrible or inedible. Well, large amounts of ANYthing is bad! You can die from drinking too much water, yet I doubt anyone would go so far as to say that water is poisonous or that you shouldn't drink it. Also they mentioned in that article that eating a few tablespoons of honey would make you feel sick. Well, I can't imagine anyone eating that much honey at once, and who wouldn't feel sick from eating that much honey at once? So my motto is eat anything in moderation, and don't go overboard with any foods, including superfoods!

Yeah well, the difference is sodium is essential, honey -- not quite. You can always substitute it with some other sugar. I wouldn't eat toxic stuff, not even in tiny little quantities. Not sure about the others, but I've noticed even as little as a teaspoon of honey causes me digestion problems.
Plus in the case of salt, if you consume it as it's naturally contained in foods it's really hard to eat toxic amounts of it. Table salt is a different story..

Makes sense.......... and I agree with both of you on this as well.

Interesting article. For me, there are too many benefits available from honey for me to leave it out of my diet...
The fact is, honey is far better than what most people perceive. Researchers are turning up more and more new evidence of honey's medical benefits in all directions. The benefits of honey don't just stop at satisfying the palate; honey also offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties for our body and health, hot beauty and skin care tips for ladies, and amazing healing properties as a head-to-toe remedy, from eye conjunctivitis to athlete foot. Its powerful healing attributes have long been used thousands of years ago and known to promote healing for cuts, cure ailments and diseases, and correct health disorders for generations after generations. The renowned UMF Manuka honey, perhaps the tastiest natural medicine, is commonly cited in many discussions on health benefits of honey. This honey not only fights infection and aids tissue healing but also helps reduce inflammation and scarring. In addition, it is often used for treating digestive problems such as diarrhea, indigestion, stomach ulcers and gastroenteritis.

There are so many differing opinions about every subject.............it's a keeper for me.

Counter-point:
http://www.reallyrawhoney.com/healthfacts.php
It's also endorsed by the esteemed Hippocrates Health Institute
http://books.google.com/books?id=XVjcQlXwhKIC&pg=PA53&lpg=PA53&dq=hippocrates+health+raw+honey&source=bl&ots=yRdScCck7Q&sig=KcIIRXLMeGBYAIoLhoNgkepEShQ&hl=en&ei=D6eTTbeDF5KC0QHJ4OTMBw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBoQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=hippocrates%20health%20raw%20honey&f=false
And the Mayo Clinic also endorses it, however they make the distinction that SOME types of honey are indeed toxic. To quote from the link:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/honey/NS_patient-honey
Honey is a sweet, viscid fluid produced by honeybees ( Apis melliflera ) from the nectar of flowers. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS), but there have been numerous reports of certain types of honey produced from the nectar of flowering plants from the genus Rhododendron and others that have toxic effects in humans and in animals.
General conclusion seems to be that only honey from certain flowers is toxic, the rest are safe and beneficial to health. Also as Aajonus Vonderplanitz points out, not all "raw" honey is raw. Make sure it says "unheated" and "unprocessed". I buy a brand called "honey in the rough". It's great on cuts, much better than bandaids :)

Firstly people, it's not Macdonalds, it's HONEY!
Do you all analyse your foods like this? To the nth degree? Sheesh, no wonder people throw up their hands and say raw is too hard, it's too hard if you over analyse!!
Upon saying this, I'd LOVE for people to not eat honey, it's not vegan and it belongs to the bees. So no probs if this article puts you off it!

Firstly people, it's not Macdonalds, it's HONEY!
I couldn't agree more.
When we get too 'pure'... we start to lose touch with the whole essence of this way of life... (in my opinion that is). It's about better life and better health... and yummy foods.
And a bit of honey here and there is a yummy addition - if you find it yummy. :throwhearts:

6. No discussions of animal products such as dairy, eggs or meat. We realize that for some, honey should be among that list but we are not opposed to honey so please do not start up discussions about why we accept honey if we’re vegan. There are discussions where the subject of honey was brought up and talked about so feel free to do a search for it to see the various sides of that. But aside from honey, no discussions in favor of consuming other animal products are to be discussed here.
