I'm new at this and have been reading until my eyes cross and am sort of confused. I read that probably the easiest way to transition into the raw lifestyle is with green smoothies. So I was researching blenders However, I would eventually like to juice also.

Before I shell out the big money for a good blender, only to eventually buy a juicer, can a smoothie be made in a juicer? If so, I'll skip the blender and go right to the juicer instead of buying both.

I'd go the opposite way of what you're thinking - get a really good blender, and it can be used for juicing, too (blend the juicing ingredients together and strain out with a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to get juice; you are left with just the pulp!). Juicers can't be used for blending.

A really good blender is your best friend! But something high-powered, like a vitamix. Best raw tool I've ever invested in! :throwhearts:

If I had to choose I would get the blender.

You can make juice with a blender but you can't make a smoothie with a juicer.

Exactly what I was going to say Revvell ... :)

edditfebaury ...Invest in a vitamix if you can ... you'll have it for years and years and years ... well worth it. You'll be able to make smoothies, and juice-type drinks too ... and lots, lots more.

I have a different take. I own a Vitamix and love it. When I use the Vitamix, I have to add ice because the Vitamix heats the smoothie and it is too warm for me to drink.

I also own a Cuisinart Stick Hand Blender. I absolutely love using it. It's not as easy as drop the fruit in, cover, hit the switch and voila, but I love the texture, coolness and taste.

If you're looking to explore whether green smoothies are for you, this may be an option.

Just a thought.
