Hi all, i have a new job and i eat at 6:30 am, with lunch not until around 1:00pm. I do have the ability to sneak in a banana or something quick in between, but i need a nice, hearty breakfast recipe. I recall some kind of "porridge" with dates and bananas, i am just worried about the right food combos (dont want to get gassy or have cramps at work, lol). Sometimes i find dried foods combined w/ certain other foods dont work well for me, other times its fine. Perhaps when they are all blended up it helps digestion? There was some kind of hearty meal with apples, bananas and dates i believe in one of the raw recipes books i took out from the library and i can't recall now. Any other recipes are welcome! I tend to do a smoothie or just eat some fruits on the way to work (to hold off the hunger as long as possible). Oh, and i dont like to eat too much fats, but i would consider eating a little to stave of the hunger pangs. :)

It's gotta be a fat green smoothie with bananas.

I don't know what kind of work you do but, around here, when working for others, there's a law that states we get a 10-15 minute break (not sure the length of time since I've not worked for anyone else in quite some time) w/in every 4 hours. I don't understand having to "sneak" in a banana. I'm curious.
In Allisa's book, there are LOADS of things you can have for breakfast ~ if you stop thinking of what you currently know as "breakfast" foods ~ lasagna, date/nut torte; chili ~ all of which can be made ahead of time.

you could soak buckwheat seeds everynight at be time , get up in morning strain several times to clean them . could make almond milk night before too .
add like raisins / berries / fruit / nuts / cinnamon to buckwheat then pour almond milk over
also can make almond milk with fruit like bananas / berries / etc , then add a bunch of tbsp of raw wheat germ and or hemp seed . my fave almond milk is with bananas / carob powder / dry dates . couldfill a thermos with this to drink at work

Yes, I know i can have a break - there is a kitchen there, and i can have snacks at my desk etc. Right now, I am training and the woman i work with doesn't even take lunch!! talk about unhealthy ... but anyhow, I DO plan on implementing breaks and such.
The amazing thing is - i have so much natural energy to get me through my early day! I don't even need caffeine. I actually went to several cups of tea for my first week, and ended up getting hooked on caffeine again, not realizing it until i didn't have any tea for several days and had the Worst headaches. So, needless to say, i stay far away from caffeine now, w/ the exception of a little green tea here and there. Thanks for the info and concerns, btw :)

I make raw "granola" and eat it with almond mylk OR banana mylk (!!!) for breakfast before going on a huge bikeride to my physically demanding job. Needless to say, I need tons of energy too.
Here's the thing, I'm a sucker for feeling like I'm eating a "traditional breakfast" because I like the feeling I get when things feel like a page out of my childhood. So whatever to getting away from tradition (if it makes you feel cozy) which actually for me, is personal nostalgia rather than cultural stigma
granola:
*buckwheat groats (soaked and dehydrated till crunchy)
*raw oats
*flax
*ground flax
*hemp hearts
*sprouted sunflower seeds
*raisins
*dried crans
*dates (cut up)
*bits of currents
*cut up banana
*frozen raspberries
*cinnamon
*lucuma

This is my fave for a filling breakfast. If you're concerned about combining or gas - maybe try it one night for supper or on the weekend first? I usually have digestive issues but this meal does not bother me at all.
Apple Porridge
2 apples
handful raisins
cinnamon
dash honey or agave(already pretty sweet with raisins and apples)
2 TB ground flax (optional)
1 TB raw almond butter (optional)
a little nut milk (optional)
Blend all in food processor till the consistency of oatmeal. I also slice a banana and mix it in for a little added texture difference. Definitely filling, I'm sure you could do it with only one apple but I love a hearty breakfast. So yummy. Enjoy!!

There is a recipe in another thread for raw pancakes made out of flaxseeds. I think they are very filling.

I was going to suggest the pancakes as well. I made those this weekend (1/2 recipe) and it was sooo filling. I wasn't even interested in eating for hours. However, it is a lot of flax, so definitely try it on an off-work day first. My body definitely wasn't prepared to handle that much flax, so I'll have to gradually add more to my diet and try again.

^ I can't handle a lot of flax either.
I'd be wary of recipes that call for a large quantity.

I substituted half the flax in Eva's pancake with ground pecans and it worked just as well, you'll want to put it on the plate ready to eat - its not going to hold up to moving around but its less flax and more than yummy!!

Here's my cereal:
oat groats
grated apple
chopped dates
almond milk
broken pieces of pecans
fresh almond milk
banana
cinnamon
vanilla
Depending on how fresh the oats are, I soak and rinse for 1-2 days so they are chewable. Drain off all water and rinse. add grated apple to taste, dates, pecans, almond milk and vanilla. I let that sit overnight. For breakfast I add banana and cinnamon.
I make quite a bit of this at a time because it takes a day or two to complete.
Yummy stuff!

Chopped apple

a little sweetner - honey
chopped pecans
raw granola
Lasted 5-1/2 hrs just today! Yummy!
