Hi,

I have only recently started on Raw, a couple of months ago so I'm not well tuned up on it yet.

My sister is in her first few weeks of pregnancy and is totally exausted all the time. What foods would be high in Iron for her to eat? I suggested Chia seeds but not sure what else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lots of spinach, like juiced spinach and spinach in smoothies!

Of course she's tired!! ;)
I second the greens, LOTS of water, and sleep for goodness sakes!

My only 'symptoms' were fatigue and severe dehydration. I took a 2 hour nap & drank 4-5 L of water everyday. Both decreased by week 10, but I kept up the practice.

The best she can do is listen to her body & reply with positive action.

I can sympathize with her. Extreme and unusual fatigue was the thing that tipped me off to my pregnancy. It got better towards the end of the 1st trimester. Don't forgt to include some vitamin C with the leafy greens, as it helps the body make use of all that iron.

Sandals, I'm now 6.5 weeks pregnant and eating an all raw diet. Here are some things I would like to pass on, although of course this is my first pregnancy so I'm not the top expert or anything!

Hydration is of utmost importance. Drinking 8 glasses of water is not enough.
Coconut water from FRESH coconuts is more hydrating than spring water. I am drinking one daily and seeing IMMENSE benefits from it.
Green smoothies are a must. Well, if possible. HUGE amounts of iron that she can assimilate.
(I personally am drinking a MINIMUM of a liter of green smoothies per day, sometimes as much as 2+ liters as I desire it.)
She needs rest if she's tired. If it means working less and her husband/partner helping around the house, that's what needs to happen. No way around it. Her body is making a whole HUMAN, and it takes a lot of work.
This is NOT the time to give in to junk food "b/c she's pregnant". I don't know why that is an expectation. I gave in twice, once was a planned experiment that I didn't even finish, and once was my first craving. I had the idea that I needed to follow my cravings. The fact is, though, I felt AWFUL both times and felt instinctively that this was not a good idea. Building a baby on the foundation of crappy food and heavy detox is Not A Good Idea.
Her body is creating toxins and hormones she is not accustomed to. Thus the importance of hydration and smoothies, but on top of it light and regular exercise is a must. Vigorous exercise is, from my understanding, ONLY a good idea if she is already VERY accustomed to it. And even so, taking it down a notch is a good idea b/c so much energy is going to baby.

I'm going to add this to the thread from my raw pregnancy... I hope you could find something of value there too... :)

Thank you so much for all your replies, you have all been so helpful and I've passed on the info.

She doesn't eat a lot of raw food but I'm hoping she will go with the green smoothies for a few weeks at least.

Its her 3rd pregnancy but she had her second child very premature with a lot of complications so she's really trying to take extra care of herself this time round.

Thanks again everyone.

She should get blood work done. If iron is low, this could mean that B12 is also low.

I supplemented with angstrom sized mineral (This is the only size that your body will accept the mineral, it is the same as plant). I was low in 4 types of minerals. I was very tired also when pregnant but it was my only thing. The tireness never went away after giving birth and going back on raw food is what give me back my energy.

It is so important that she eats food rich in vitamine A (NONE COOK), heat destroye the vitamin A, K and D, it is why so many women are deficient. Vitamin A protect your child from heavy metal.

Find food rich in B-Complexe as well.

All i can say, she should sleep as much as she can. It won't get easier once she gives birth, because she will have to feed her child at night.

If you could get her to do as much fresh raw food, it would be so great for her especially fresh berries and greens.

It isn't recommend to eat any sprout during pregnancy due to potential armful bacteria.

All the best.
