Hi There
Does anyone have a Blend Tec? My lovely chiro offered to buy my Vitamix from me after I had some problems with it . . . I had decided the BlendTec might be a better fit as I read that it juices AND is a food processor as well!!! Then I played with the vitamix and it seemed fine for making stuff really smooth...however...if the blendtec is a better fit, Ill sell the VM (taking back my bad review) and go for the blendtec (especially because the local buyer might give me a discount for getting a dehydrator at the same time)........
Thanks for helping
I've had a BlendTec for over 3 years - ask away ~ ~ I'm happy to help. *Ü*

Just curious, aren't they much more expensive than the old Vitamix?

Hey Stina!
Thanks for responding . . . . well Im committing to selling my VM after my experience with it (I offered to sell it to my chiro who really wants one) . . . so Ill be getting the Blendtec since you can easily get that in Canada (easier to deal with the warrantee etc if I have any problems). I think you answered my original question about whether it could be considered a food processor, since it's advertised as such....and you said no . . . soooooo
1. Does it make your smoothies wonderfully silky smooth? Even with tonnes of greens?
2. Any problems with nut butters?
3. Do you wish you had one of these "tampers"?
4. Have you made icecream with yours?
I guess those are my only hopeful questions . .. . I do find the VM pretty clunky and unattractive and the fact that everything gets stuck under the blades is pretty annoying..so perhaps the BT is an overall better fit anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to answer!

No problem asking questions... but doing a search as well (or before) is always a good idea as well!
Here's a very current thread which really covers this topic well:
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=48755
and there are many more in the archives. Just do a search and use the terms blendtec and vitamix!

Thanks Aleesha... I did find that thread after.... I should try and refrain from "reactional" posts :)

I'm confused why you still sound like you think the vitamix and blendtec are significantly different machines. They can do essentially the same thing as each other, but have small differences (see the thread Aleesha linked to). Apparantly you've seen a lot of advertising for the blendtec regarding it working as a juicer and a food processor. It won't serve these functions any differently than the vitamix. People have already explained to you how to juice with it - either you have "juice" with the fiber still in it (which I think is what they advertise) or you strain your juice after blending. The blendtec does not have a function like a juice extractor. To use it as a food processor, I'm guessing that refers to pulsing to mix things.
It just seems strange to me how quick you are to sell something you just got new to only buy almost the same thing new again. I can't imagine how you wouldn't lose money doing that, and it seems like it would be worth it to just sit on the thought for a couple weeks while you use the VM and reassess after you are more accustomed to how it works. I would think that a VM used for 2 days and a VM used for 2 weeks (or 2 months) wouldn't make a difference on how much you could sell it for.
I do think that whichever machine you end up keeping, you will be happy with it in the long run.

As per my notes above, I maybe able to get a discount if I get a blendtec and dehydrator together at the same place. Im definitely of the spontaneous personality... so I wanted to sell it immediately after being so disappointed with what I had heard it can do.... yes, using it incorrectly. IN that short time I found a buyer, so I dont want to flake out on her. Im not going to tell her Id like to use it for another 2-3 weeks before I let her take it. And then I have to wait that time for the dehydrator. Anyway, suffice to say, yes I make spontaneous decisions. The VM is also quite ugly, doesn't fit under counters, bulky, extra parts on the counter with damper, so likely the blendtec is more sleek... I did believe their ads that it works as a FP. I hope this clears up your confusion.

you sure are impulsive... i suggest you do a heap of research and sit with the decision for awhile before making another decision you may regret.

I appreciate the commentary on my personality . . . but I'm really just trying to do the "research" you recommend. If the ads dont do what they claim, then I rely on you guys for all of the details. I got the VM, it's bulky and unattractive. I'm selling it, even after figuring out how it works.
Thanks

but do you rely on us or do you only read what you want to and then ignore the rest... cause you've been given soooooooooooo much help in your threads on the vita mix and blendtec issue... and i'm not sure you are really hearing what people are saying.
either way... we all fully support you in buying and owning whatever machine you desire.

I have a Blendtec. My answers are in bold.
1. Does it make your smoothies wonderfully silky smooth? Even with tonnes of greens? Yes.
2. Any problems with nut butters? Never made any; might use my food processor for that.
3. Do you wish you had one of these "tampers"? No.
4. Have you made icecream with yours? No.
Blendtecs are great blenders but they aren't the same as a food processor. The Blendtec does have a "pulse" button which is like a food processor, but the bowl of a food processor is wider and is just better for making some things.
When I make smoothies, I use the extra-large smoothie setting on the blender. I blend the greens and water first, then add the fruit.

In my VM, I do it all at once. No problem. Love my VM over my BT... but then, I said that already in previous threads.

I know. Its just alot of money for me... so Im obsessive about trying to be sure I do the right thing. I dont have 30 days to try this one and return it. I can't return it at all.

but that's my point. you aren't getting a different machine that will make different stuff by switching to a blendtec... you are simply getting a different machine that does the same as the one you've already paid for.

Okay. Thanks to everyone for their patience. I just told my chiro that Im not selling it after all. The blendtec is still $100 more and since it doesn't do anymore (tho the ads say it does)... I want to save some cash. Im sure it's phenomenal anyway.
I have worked with Blendtecs only at private clients' homes (because my choice has always been Vitamix, as well as in the raw food restaurants I've helped open or worked at)...
And I have to agree that there is absolutely NOTHING the Blendtec can do that the Vitamix can't. You will find owners of BOTH machines who just love them to pieces.
What you will get from Blendtec but not Vitamix: really powerful marketing. Programmed cycles and buttons. A shorter and, in my opinion, slightly more attractive machine.
What you will get with Vitamix but not Blendtec: a 7-year warranty (which is almost SHORT, because many MANY people with VM have had them for 10, 20, 30 years), so really long-term durability. Although it's debatable whether you will get that with the BT. I just don't know b/c I've NEVER met anyone whose BT is older than 7 or 8 years. If that. A tamper.
In my experience testing the BT, I was sorely disappointed with 2 things:
1/ It did not get things like nut cheeses as smooth as the VitaMix. Perhaps this is b/c we got SO tired of turning the machine off, opening the lid, getting splatted, and tamping it with a spatula since it doesn't come with the "not necessary" tamper.
2/ I wanted to just turn it on and run it rather than memorize which programs did what. This annoyed me b/c that is what I like to do with the VM. I just turn it on then clean a couple dishes, then come back after a moment. I don't want to have to keep coming back and picking another program.
BUT it generally DID do a pretty good job and was FAR superior to an ordinary blender FOR SURE. And it's a pretty machine.
I hope that's a help, if you read it. ;)

For what it's worth, when I moved to Budapest, Hungary after more than a year of using my first Vitamix, I was devastated I couldn't use it there and didn't wan to spend $1000+ to get another one to work with the voltage. So, after all that use, I sold it for about the same I paid for it. They TOTALLY hold their value because of the many, many out there working like new, after 10+++ years of use.
SO, if you decide to sell it later, someone will show up.
OR, your kids could be thanking you in 30 years for sending them off to college with your old Vitamix that was well-loved. ;)

Very cool. I think you really are going to enjoy it. I'm actually trying to figure out what to do when I'm in the USA for 2 weeks. I would like to bring the VM with me from Brazil, but then my husband won't have it at his raw-ish cafe. I don't know what I'll do! lol!

I can do it all at once in my Blendtec, too, and it works fine, but I prefer doing it the way I do it.
I have to say, I kind of don't get this Vitamix vs. Blendtec stuff. They both work fine; I really don't get why folks need to defend what they bought.

It will ~ Brazil and USA currencies are the same in terms of energy. BUT Carlos is using it for his cafe and serving up a storm of green smoothies to the Brazilian countryside, so I can't really take it from him!

They do totally both work fine. But they are definitely different. If LOOKS were my number one priority, I wouldn't dream of a Vitamix. The Blendtec is more attractive. I had one client who made the choice for that reason alone. Others prefer the timing and buttons.
I don't.
I will say, I do far prefer the VitaMix, but it's like, the Vitamix is a 96 out of 100 for me and the BT is a 93 out of a 100. Both great machines.
But many of us chose what we chose for specific reasons... I'm more particular about the differences from working in restaurants and teaching classes with the machines.
I don't know that you were looking for a response. :) But that's my thought on that.

I think my VM is GORGEOUS! I had one for about 13 or 14 years and it still worked great but when I saw the red one I HAD to have it. Now, I do! :throwhearts:
Me too!
I might be joining you two soon on it... thinking about getting a BT too for my classes so I 1/ always have a backup and 2/ people can decide for themselves what they prefer after using it. Always good to play before you buy!!

Shared custody? ;) I have several friends in the area, so I was thinking of that at least for a class... but every day is maybe pushing the limit!?
