Hi! I'm Heather from Maryland. I will be 48 years old this year and I am SO EXCITED about my new, raw lifestyle (I've been raw since 1 Feb 2011). I was pretty much eating a "Clean" diet before venturing into the raw eating. I LOVE to workout, so I know how important it was to at least eat "Clean". One day, I saw an commercial for some lawyer willing to take cases from people who had issues with Osteoporosis meds (i.e., broken hips). I got curious and started researching these meds and somehow got to numerous websites that were telling that dairly causes Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis runs like wildfire in my family (on both sides). I IMMEDIATELY stopped all dairy - yogurt, milk on cereal, baking/cooking with dairy, etc. And talk about "things happen for a reason"! A girl started working with me who was a Vegan. I already was working with a Vegetarian, but didn't want to "pick" her brain because she still was ingesting dairy products. The Vegan and I got to talking. Found out she does a lot of soy - which I wasn't a fan of. I did more research and found out that a lot of plants contain the protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients I needed so I decided to go FULL-BLOWN raw. VERY HAPPY about my decision! :heart

My husband is extremely supportive and is always curious about what my next recipe is that I will be trying. Unfortunately, he's still a fan of eating meat.

My ONLY problem is (and I guess I lied earlier - I'm 99.99% raw) is that I still have to have my ONE graham cracker before I work out. This is something I've been doing for close to 20 years (5-6 days a week). I'm certain that it will be simple to replace that habit.

Anyway, I've enjoyed reading this Forum and am glad I stumbled upon it. I actually don't remember how I did, I just did.

Thanks for listening...hope to get to know you.

From one Heather to another, welcome aboard!

You sound quite enthusiastic about your new journey! Yay! Seems you're doing very well; keep up the great work! And I like your optimism on replacing your graham with something raw, when you are ready. Cheers to you!

Lol, that graham cracker thing is funny. :)

Sounds like you are on a great track. And that's awesome that your DH supports you. Mine does too, although he is not 100%, but he is a vegan.

If your graham cracker thing is working for you and is your only exception I wouldn't worry about it. And I am a true proponent of being 100%!! So it's kind of odd that I'm saying that, but it seems really regimented and I like that so maybe that's why I think it's okay to let it be, lol.

Wishing you all the best with your raw journey.

HAPPY UPDATE!!!: I "think" I've succeeded in giving up the graham cracker. I looked at this crazy habit of mine and realized that I could easily substitute a banana or another piece of fruit. So far, so good. :heart

@laura-jane - thank you for your well-wishes. It's so nice to be a part of this forum :woot:

Hey, well done Heather!

Glad to hear it was easy to get rid of the graham cracker! :throwhearts:

I'm with Laura Jane on that one, it wasn't urgent to get rid of it but you did it anyways, and a piece of fruit pre workout is much better for your energy levels anyway. :)

Welcome to the board!

Why thank you!!! I feel better about the graham and I'm taking the rest to work (the Costco size box!) - hopefully, they'll disappear there. I decided to make a green smoothie for lunch today and my DH actually took a sip AND went back for seconds! He couldn't believe there was Kale in it! :heart

I can't believe how good I feel changing to this eating lifestyle. I know I'm going to thank all of you for the awesome advice.

Thank you all in advance!
