I have some dates and dried apricots that I put in soak over a week ago. Is it safe for me to use them and how long can I keep them?:eat

Were they in the fridge the whole time while soaking?

Questionable.

I'd not use them, especially if they've been left on the counter, as is where I soak mine. How do they look, btw? I've never encountered long-term soaked fruits!

Oh, Stina! lol!

I wouldn't use them either. Soaked is max a day or two for me, even in the fridge UNLESS I rinsed and put back in the fridge without water. Then MAYBE three days.

@ DebB ...Yes they have been refrigerated the whole time. I'm new to eating raw so I'm just learning as I go along...Gee I hate throwing out food. Oh well I guess I'm gonna start anew.

How funny. I had a few soaking in the fridge two weeks also, so I ate one to test it after reading your thread this morning. Hours later and I'm fine.

I asked because I make date paste all the time which is simply dates and water - blended. I keep it in the fridge and I don't see how this is any different. Now the apricots I've never left soaking that long, so I don't know (although I wonder what's the difference between oversoaked dates or apricots...)

My newest date paste (learned from blenditandmendit on YT) is coconut water and medjool dates - oh my goodness - it's my new sweetener of choice. *Ü*

That's pretty funny! Made me laugh :) Here's a link to the sweetener that Jane has named, "NOG" Nectar of the Gods (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thuUwGcRk-0)! It's fantastic. I'm making my second batch of it tonight. *Ü*

Coconut water and dates! So simple, but I never thought of it. Thanks for posting the video! However, she didn't mention blending the dates, which I thought was strange. Could I easily make this in a regular, cheap blender vs. a high-powered one? I must try it!!

Believe it or not - she didn't blend the dates! Now, I've only made mine once so far and while mine really broke down, it didn't break down and get as 'creamy' looking as hers did and still hasn't after being in the fridge several days. But - I think her dates were probably fresher / softer than mine were.

If you wanted to blend this, I think you would have no problems blending it with a regular blender -after- the dates have thoroughly soaked and softened. But again, mine wasn't blended either. But I do blend it in the end if I use it in a blender recipe for the sweetener.

I hope this helps. We're making another batch today. It really is that good! *Ü*
