I googled them and they seem to have several models. Which did you go with?

Hi garden granny - I've got a friend in the market for a juicer. Can you tell me - does this do all fruits (soft & hard), cucumbers and leafy greens? Did you get it through Costco.com (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11472464&search=juicer&Mo=8&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=juicer&Ntt=juicer&No=7&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1) by any chance - that's the one I had her take a look at... *Ü*

That's the one I have. Love it. I juice kale - that's about the only green I juice and it's fine. Some softer fruits can get backed up but I just do a soft then a hard cause I usually do apples or carrots in most juices. Citrus is fine but sometimes pineapple doesn't go through too well. Cucumbers are fine.

ive never used one , but ive read thousands of opinions / posts on juicers over the past 6 years since going raw and ide say omegas 8004 / 8005 (same machine in white or chrome) are the best liked juicers by far

only the greenstar gets as much respect but its like twice the cost and i guess they say harder to clean (dont quote me on that cleaning part)

and if werent aware bedbathbeyond sells the omega juicers now if like shopping thru them

I've juiced pineapple, apples, carrots, cranberries, celery, spinach, parsley, lemon, oranges, ginger, cucumber, romaine, kale, and all worked fine....on the softer fruits, I use something like apple, or carrot, etc. to push it and keep it moving....I use the juicer every morning.........I got mine thru discountjuicers.com

garden granny, when you say 'Omega', are you referring to the horizontal auger type (8003/4/5/6) or the newer 'vert' (100/200/330/350) type juicer?

Omega 8003/4/5/6 (almost identical to the Oscar DA 900) is an excellent juicer - I have one myself.

Not the best juicer for very soft fruits and vegetables, but will manage them if you cycle through your produce types while you juice, and if you pay for a little maintenance every 9 months or so, in the form of new silicone seals. There are two of these - one is at the motor end of the smoke-coloured plastic drum (this is at the point where the rotating auger slides through the drum and into the motor shaft).

The second seal is part of the conical juice screen component, next to the ejection tip of the auger.

It is unfortunate that these need replacing periodically, and even more unfortunate that the seal on the conical juice screen seems not to be replaceable without actually replacing the whole juice screen component itself.

That said, the juicer performs superbly with almost all vegetables and especially with leafy greens (including wheatgrass, by the way), producing very little foam or oxidisation.

In spite of the maintenance costs (which you won't find the manufacturer or the retailers publicising), the juicer remains an excellent choice and I've had mine for a long time now, with excellent reliability and performance. I'd still choose the 8003/4/5/6 / DA 900 over the newer vertical type juicers, good though the vert juicers can be.

If you need a cheaper option, consider the Lexen or the Samson, but I do particularly recommend the 8006 / DA 900.

I know others here have twin gear juicers, and they have their pros, too, but they cost more and require more cleaning and more effort to juice. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's important to consider if one is new to juicing as one is less likely to build and maintain the good habit of daily juicing if the juicer is intimidating to operate or clean.

John Kohler has some excellent video demos of the various juicers in action at the following webpage:

Happy juicing! :D

I had a Green Star for 5 years and was getting tired of it not juicing fruits and would back up on me. I hated cleaning it also.
I ended up buying the Omega 8006 and the Omega VRT350 through Bed, Bath and Beyond using 20% off coupons. I think it is a great deal and I have to say...I LOVE these juicers!!! Very quiet and easy to clean.

The Omega 8006 is great for my everyday green juices including lemons, apples, all greens, carrots, etc...Very easy on the wrist and hands to juice (unlike the green star)
It also make a very nice Sorbet!

The Omega VRT350 is great for fruit juices, very creamy sorbet. It also make the BEST Almond milk and it is also very easy to clean.
I love these juicers!!! :heart:kisses::juicy:

I just got the Omega 8006. I haven't unpacked it (shame on me.) I'm juicing on my old centrifugal juicer. I was thinking the Omega would work better if I aged it for a week. ;) I had another Omega years ago and it worked fine with no problems, but it was the centrifugal type.

Seems the Omega 8005 gets so much praise, it sounds really nice. I have an old cetrifugal juicer, which is pretty alright. It's good for oranges, carrots, celery, etc... But it can't really do leafy greens or wheatgrass, so I'm looking to get a good masticating juicer.

The omega sounds great, but I read something about metal on plastic and scratches in the plastic, meaning tiny plastic shards going into the juice. Do you guys w/ Omega juicers notice scratches in the plastic? It sounds like the best masticating juicer for price, but I'm just a little nervous.

no - no bits of plastic or metal being shaved off into my juices. Love my Omega. Have had a centrifuge type and would never use it again after using a masticating type. Really you need to try the difference.

Thanks for the reply, snoops. I feel alot better about it. It's a toss up between this, or saving up for a blendtec or vitamix (I'm on a limited income). This is a little off topic, but, anyone happen to know of a decent blender for smoothies that isn't $400+? Or is anything less not worth it? :\
Sorry for so many questions!

- if your not into fasting i would never get a juicer before a blender , a blender does way more jobs . and ive seen 100 raw foodist say they bought all the toys to start out and end up only using blender

- concerning smoothie blender : cheap blenders can work , though there sometimes are little chunks of stuff not blended , if you use say a half blender of liquid that you add solid things to . like for me i make almond milk and fill blender 2/3's with it then add solid fruits . and ive got a cheap $45 dollar 550 watt salton brand . though im not big on smoothies beyond my once a day almond / fruit batch because i like getting my greens whole in big salad every night , so maybe ide burn up my blender if i was juicing alot of greens

- a while back i was deep into less expensive blender reveiws and i found alot of people liking the less then $100 old oster bee hive classic blender , but cant recall right now the price i was willing to pay for one and the current market price so i'll have to refresh on the topic
