View Full Version : Dulse

Just wondered how long is dehydrated dulse good for? I got some last July (2010) when I was in St. John, New Brunswick (when I had been reading about raw but not fully committed to doing it).
I have a recipe I was thinking of trying this weekend that has a lot of Dulse in it. Would this still be good to use? It looks okay, but I wanted to be sure.
I'm sure it's fine. Seaweed supplies seem to stay fresh for a fair amount of time as long as the container they're in is airtight. :)

Actually, I just had some dulse flakes yesterday that I bought back in August. They were still good and I didn't get sick so I figure they're still ok. :)

could you realistically get sick from old dried seaweed? I would think the only pathogens that would make you sick would be the ones that would need moisture. Maybe I'm wrong on that one and I'm wondering, because I have some old seaweed that I bought probably last spring, almost a year ago. I would thinkthat the problem with dried stuff is loss of potency. I know anything with oil can get rancid, but I'm not sure about seaweed now. Wonder if anyone else will have a definitive answer about this one. I love the "geeky" side of everything!
