Hi everyone,
just wanted to ask for some advice from those with excalibur dehydrators. I purchased the 3900 (UK version) on Monday, it arrived Tuesday and I used it for the first time on Wednesday.
I was trying to dehydrate some sweet potatoes/ courgettes/ bananas and pineapple, with a recipe I had that said to leave for 12 hours. When I switched the machine on there was a really heavy, loud, vibrational noise, so I checked to make sure that there the fan was not in contact with the metal cage. I then turned it up to highest for an hour and it ran fine with just the "white noise hum" that I had expected. Turning it back down to 105 F it continued to hum, then made this heavy noise again. I took the door off, adjusted the trays and tried to work out where it was coming from (it was making the noise without the door). I also cushioned the feet. It continued to run for about 5 minutes with the steady hum, then there was a click and it started making this noise again, then went back to humming, and continued this for the rest of the drying cycle (about 10 hours).
Does this normally happen with dehydrators? I expected the hum, but the rattling noise is very overwhelming. I doubt this is the fan, as it would be continuous, I'm thinking more like thermostat or heater rubbing against something?
Thanks for any help.
