I've been wondering since being on this list and seeing a lot of pictures - how many of you that have been raw for a long period of time are at your ideal weight? Granted, I'm young and it didn't take that long for me to get down to the weight I'm at now (5'10" - 158lbs) but I'm just wondering if there are those that still feel they have not reached their ideal weight but have been living mostly raw for a long period of time.
Is this weight loss really for everyone? Or are some body types just not meant to reach an ideal weight?
Looking forward to your comments!

Very good question. Not going to be answering in this thread as I've been raw for only 42 days, so not a long timer.
I will be watching this thread. Now to figure out how to subscribe to a thread! ;)

I've been on and off raw for almost 5 years, but only maintained a 100% raw for up to 2 months at a time, although I've done that now several times. but I'm still over 200 pounds, but considering I started at 285, that's great, and the most I've ever been able to lose on any diet was 20 pounds with tons of challenges, exercise, and terrible head aches, so I'm staying raw.

Besides, it fits my lifestyle.

anyway, I do understand that we all have differnt body types, but each can still get to their ideal weight, which is not over 200 pounds I'm sure. LOL

However, there is a very thin body type, that's my hubby, he will always be thin, no matter what, but he can put on weight, he just still looks thin, LOL

Then there is a more average person, then there is the bigger person, that is me, even when I was thin and young, I had a big butt, and a big top, just a tiny waist, so I looked -- shall we say -- mature, even at 11 or so?

So, I can get thinner for sure, but I'll never be a twig like Kate Hepburn, or average size, like the Hemingways, but I will go back to big butt, big top, thin waist, I'm sure. it's my natural body type, same with all my female ancestors and granddaughters.

Don't want to hijack this thread.
But yes, you go to the original post and the drop down menu that says thread tools, click on that and in there says subscribe to thread.

RP, thanks for your thoughts too.
I've been raw for 42 days and it's coming off for me quickly. I am the same and don't believe that I will ever ever be itty bitty, but I just want to be happy with my body image.
Slowly getting there!
Interesting thread btw.

Raeanna,

This is my opinion...I think that the weightloss IS for everyone, but the amount and rate of weightloss will not be the same for everyone (naturally).

I think that our BODIES have an ideal weight and WE have an ideal weight (what we want it to be or think it should be). I think that after a while, our bodies reach an ideal weight but sometimes it's not what we want it to be or think it should be.

I feel that my body has reached it's ideal weight because it doesn't stray too far from a certain range no matter what I eat or don't eat...the range is always the same and never goes too far over or too far under. I would never have imagined being the weight that I am now, but I am here and I have adjusted to it.

Also, just to cosign what RP said...I also believe that you have to consider genetics, body type, bone structure, etc. as well. I am 5'4" and weigh around 125 give or take a few pounds depending. I see some women my height who weigh the same or around the same range and they look larger than me and I've seen some who look smaller. I've seen women who LOOK about the same size as me, but they weigh less.

I agree that height, muscle mass and bone structure play a part.

At 6'0 I've always appeared thin.

In high school I looked like twiggy at 125.

After having the 3rd child I weighed about 150 my MIL didn't believe me, so I sat on her lap and almost killed her.

I'm small boned but I have a very wide ribcage and chest, even though I have a Debra Messing front. So again, people don't believe me when I tell them my band size is 36-38 but cup size is AA. Okay is that too much information? Hopefully Mr. Donald's isn't lurking on this thread.

I also haven't been raw long enough to reach my ideal weight, but I just wanted to add, it seems to me that raw can really change your body, along with the weight. I'm still over 200 lbs (but finally not much!) but at 5'6" I'm comfortably in a size 16. The last time I fit in this size three years ago, I weighed 180, and I was exercising lots (training for a marathon). So yes, while everybody is different, I believe raw will improve every-body. :D

I am losing weight grcefully and loving it. I agree with Rawkinlocs as it is body shape and structure - I have very large bones, wide shoulders, large hands and feet and I am 5'101/2 -at your weight Raesann, I would be too thin. So it is realative -

You asked:
Is this weight loss really for everyone? Or are some body types just not meant to reach an ideal weight?

To answer: Weight loss is for everyone who is not at their ideal weight, age and environment may slow it down, but it can happen - naturally on raw; some folks will say that they gained weight, and very well could have, hjoweer, as the body conforms to the change ( on whatever plan) and with exercise, normalization will occur. So yes, every body type is meant to reach an ideal weight, it is just different methods to get there.

I'm 5'8 ( subtract a tiny smidge I still have not grown for the tape to = a true 5'8', but who cares ?)

I think, from what I've observed so far, that when we are nutritionally deficient, we're "lighter" - even at the same size or larger. When we're feeding our bodies properly and they are holding on to the nutrition like they are supposed to, we're more body-dense - which makes us heavier.

Add in muscle weight - denser bones from true calcium uptake - healthier organs - better hydration ....

My Dr. says I should be 142 - 164 lbs I am 5'8" and that is average BMI
I am presently 162
I like being 130- 135 lbs
I have been up to 172 and feel fairly round and soft there.
I have been down as low at 114 and still felt I needed to lose wieght then too.
So my ideal weight I am glad to say is exactly where I am today. Which will be different from where I will be tomorrow, or maybe the next week.

However I have lost a few lbs on raw, but more importantly, I have lost the bloated belly that used to ache all the time. I seem to have less celulite on my belly and butt, which is really nice. (The less celulite is really nice, my butt is okay  )

I have some pictures of before and posted them, I am waiting to have some decent during pictures taken. :o

Peace,

I also agree that weight loss (deadweight loss) is naturally when you are on a raw diet, simply because a raw diet is a CLEANSING diet. Meaning that it cleans up all the excess mess (deadweight) that has been PILED UP and Built up for YEARS UPON YEARS!
The rate of this deadweight leaving the body is dependent upon the individual and many other factors such as genetics (thus, body type), your blood, how long you've been eating poorly or practiced poor lifestyle habits (poor thoughts), smoking, drinking, lack of workouts, etc.. All of these factors, along with many others, contribute to just how fast the weight will drop off.

For me personally, i'm a 5'9" male and i'm around 145-150. When i tell people that i weigh exactly what i used to weigh in junior high school (9 years ago, [i'm 22] when i was 3 inches shorter) they're amazed! My body composition is a lot different now than it was back then, however. A lot more muscle, and less fat. (Although i've never been fat or overweight from the naked eye; I've always had an athletic, "basketball player" look. ALWAYS REMEMBER, some people can be overFAT without being "overweight"). So sometimes the aspect of "weight" to determine how you look and how healthy you are is not always as clear-cut as it appears to be.

I've been raw now for 9 months now, and during the first month or two i lost about 5 pounds, but i physically LOOKED (according to family and friends i've known my entire life) like i had lost a lot more. I've since gained the 5 pounds back, and from my own Understanding, the essential deadweight is what i rid myself of. And now the healthy LIVEweight is what i've gained back on.

Just thought i'd add-on to the thread.. Nice topic..

PEACE

to answer your question, I've been raw for over two years, and I believe that I still have some time to go, but it is not in terms of my weight, or my ideal weight, as you phrased this. May I re-phrase the words here a bit? You see, it seems to me that it is not all about weight. For example, muscles weigh more than fat, so, although my weight may seem acceptable, I still have got excess fat on me, and at the same time, not enough muscles. Which means that some time in the future, when I lose all excess fat and grow some more muscles, I might actually weigh more than I do now. So, I do not focus on my weight, and I hardly ever weigh myself. Instead, I focus on my body shape, energy levels, clear skin, and other factors, which to me, are more appropriate indicators of where I am at. Now, as far as my body shape, I have noticed that being all-raw is very beneficial for the pace of the progress that I have been observing. That is, to truly get rid of all excess fat, and rebuild my body, I need to be all-raw. In particular, eating plenty of fruit (I am repeating myself here, aren't I :p ) which keeps me satisfied (and so helps me to stay all-raw) and keeps my diet low-fat at the same time, seems to work wonders. I am amazed at, despite the fact that my body has changed so much, there is still some more transformation to look forward too. It seems that my body will not stop until it looks as when I was a teenager, that is, lean and fit. Oh well, I could live with it, no complaints from me! :)

All the best,
Gosia.

Well that would be Mr. Donald's. His name is what precedes the Donald's part and he's quite the swinger around here.

Rawkinlocs,

We're the same height and weight.

To everyone else,

I really haven't weighed myself in quite a while (since being raw I've been quite content). I'm much more muscular than I use to be, more of lean muscle, and I'm thin but not skinny. I like that. I use to want to be super skinny, but not since eating raw. I just like being at an ideal weight. And, like Rawkinlocs, I hardly budge from this weight.
