is it bad to eat a good amount of figs? they seem like they would be very calorie dense and stuff but fitday says they only yield 20 calories and 5 carbs each oz.

Oh, my, figs could never be bad! I *love* fresh figgys. I shall be in mourning soon as they go out of season.
I think they are more nutrient dense than calorie dense.
But, it also depends on the fruit itself: Is it a very ripe, sweet fig; or is it an average fig? The carbs will vary either way. Sweeter = higher carbs.
Calories of figs are (average, of course)
11% fat
75% carbs
14% protein
Nice!

I also love fresh figs and am sad to see them gone for the season. I will get some dried ones though to get me through the winter.

I get dried mission figs from Whole Foods...as well as a fig that starts with a "C"...it's the best!!! I have never had fresh figs...only dried and I love those. Are fresh even better? I noticed at my conventional supermarket today that they had figs but they were not organic (ie sulfites and stuff) in them so I decided to wait.
BTW, read something disturbing about additives...though I guess it's logical if you think about it. Many types of meat are coloured with additives to give them an appealing look...if they weren't the flesh would be grey....ewww!!! Soooooo glad I'm raw vegan!!!

I've read that figs (fresh and dehydrated) are very alkalizing and excellent for eating when you feel a cold coming on, I think in David Wolfe's Sun Food Success System. I eat as much as I want!

Peace,
Just to add-on to the topic, i also am in LOVE with figs!
I mainly have fresh Turkish figs from Whole Foods. I've yet to try the dried figs. Matter fact, i haven't had any dried fruits at all in about 2 months (including my raisins).
And i feel great!! My immune system is working optimally, i workout regularly, and i also have to 2nd u Secret Heart, i LOVE being a Raw Vegan!!
Someone once asked me how i felt about being around soo many cooked, fast, SAD food environments and not having access to any raw, organic fresh fruit and vegetables. And he tried to almost sympathize with me telling me that he fealt sorry for me choosing to eat this way and always being in constant opposition about it. And what i told him was "No one should feel sorry for ME! I feel sorry for everyone else!!"
PEACE

I love figs and dates. And I really don't worry about the calories or carbs. If I'm eating something that is so high in nutrients and my body wants it...I eat them. I've had a breakfast of just dates recently. It's very good.

Where I live figs are still ripening. Hum, that's strange! Anyway, yesterday I was able to get almost two cases of figs from the trees. I have been eating practically nothing but figs since then, yum, I say. They will be gone soon enough, so I am enjoying them now while they last. Also, you can dry them. Many of my cases of figs have beem dried and stored in air tight containers for winter. They were dryed in my Exclibur at around 110. While the Winter's chill falls upon us, I will be able to enjoy my favorite fruit. Just can't get enough of them. Medjool dates are another favorite with pecans in the middle. Delicious.

Patty,
How did your dry your figs - do you cut them or put them in whole? On teflex or just on the screen? How long were they in the excalibur? thanks!
I just came home with figs. Where do I store them ? In the fridge or pantry ?
I am going to attempt to make Raw Fig cookies, I had some from eatraw.com and they were awesome ! almonds, pecans, figs, dates and raisins !
Thanks !

Hello RawYogini
First I washed them througly. Then I quartered them and layed them on the screens until dry crispy/chewy. It took about 2 days or so to dry them.
