Hi all,

I'm new to the board and to raw food.

Just received a big order of yummy stuff, all raw, and mostly in bulk. So no labels. Is there anything on this list that really needs to go in the fridge?

coconut oil
cashews
almonds
sesame seeds
chia seeds
cacao powder
bee polen

thanks!

Hi ~ I can help out with where I store mine. I'm not saying how I do it is the right way, it's just what I found works well for me. *Ü*

Thanks, Deb! I would have guessed fridge for the coconut oil!

Hi Emiliana ~ The coconut oil does really well in the cupboard. At room temperature it will be solid -- until summer! Then it will probably melt or at least get nice & soft. :) There are oils I keep in the fridge though, hemp being one. Our flax oil I actually keep in the freezer to keep it as fresh as possible.

We've got a freezer, so it's easy for me to toss the nuts in there. But, unless you eat them up very quickly - I'd at least keep them in the fridge. They can go rancid.

If you're ever in doubt - you can always toss things in the fridge. Gotta love REAL & fresh food that isn't okay to sit on the pantry shelf for 8 years - ha! *Ü*

Thanks, Deb. I keep flax oil in the fridge--might be better off in the freezer because it does take me awhile to go through a bottle. Haven't tried hemp oil yet, but I have some hemp protein powder on order.

I'm trying new nuts for the first time (in raw form) so I only got small quantities. It's easy enough to toss them in the freezer.

You're so welcome Emiliana (such a pretty name!) ~ The flax oil in the freezer tip I actually learned from my MD's office. We live in WA State where Barlean's is (a flax oil manufacturer) and he has it flown in and it goes right in the freezer in his office and he recommends that to all his patients.

Mine doesn't freeze solid ~ I'm able to take it out, shake it and take it right away. Another tip - he recommends women get the "high lignan" flax oil for extra protection against breast cancer. *Ü*

My chia seeds and sesame seeds go in the fridge with rest of my nuts and seeds. The chia seed package recommends refrigeration after opening.
