I was scouting around some of the old threads and ran across one that continued for over a year. It was so interesting I'd hoped we could pick it up again with a whole new similar thread.
I'm 53 years old and weighed 253 this AM. I'm so ashamed of myself that I try very hard to not go back to my home state of Minnesota. In high school I was athletic and had a good figure. When I do get home, I hide out at the folks house as much as I can. High School reunions - forget it!!
I began my second marriage in 1991 and I looked and felt great. But I've been on a twenty year health decline and weight increase since then. My DH, bless his heart, weighs exactly the same as he did 20 yrs ago and has only been to the Dr one time in all those years.
My health has deteriorated greatly in the last 4 years. I now live with chronic pain in my feet, legs, hips and back. I'm type a 2 diabetic, got Fibromyalgia, and possible Lupus. It's hard for me to stand very long, I cannot walk and at times have needed an electric cart for shopping at the store or a crutch. My hips pinch and hurt, and I know that if I'm not careful I won't be able to keep my job.
I've been checking into the raw lifestyle now for 4 years. I've dappled with it, but never really made a commitment. I really want to be 100% raw and then see what my body wants from there. I'm still having a hard time making that hard, fast commitment to nothing but raw. But I'm hanging in there now for over a month.
I would like to lose close to 90 lbs. My hope is that I can regain my strength and ability to get out and enjoy life again. Other "diets or lifestyles" promise weight loss, but none have such a rich track record of people getting healed from sickness like this one. So I've "hung my hat on raw." And for the first time in years, I feel optimistic about the future.

Good for you Got2B! A month is a fantastic start. I find Alissa's books good motivation to try and stay 100% If I remember to continue reading those and especially the sections where she explains why 100% is easier than not then I keep my resolve much more effectively. She's so right!
Keep up the good work!

Making the commitment is half way to the goal. Just focus on what you want to accomplish initially. Once you have been eating this way even for a short time, the food you used to eat will no longer taste good. At first focus on eating a lot of fruit and have greens at least one meal a day. The hardest thing at first is to feel satiated and fruit definitely helps with that.
I wish you success and visualize yourself 90 lbs lighter while you transition!

In my experience, I would do what works for you; eat whatever it takes to stay on the raw food program. If it's a lot of fruit, eat fruit; if it's seeds and/or nuts, then, eat those.
When I (and about 5 others) began eating raw, most of our food program consisted of nuts and seeds and we all eliminated excess weight.
Also, if you want some extra encouragement, check out my interviews with Clent Manich and Philip McCluskey on Rawin' Radio (link below) ~ who each eliminated 200 pounds w/in 2 years.
Also, pick up Alissa's first book and dvd's. She's got some great testimonies; a weekly food plan and over 300 recipes.
Most of all ~ enjoy exploring this new lifestyle and remember, always, play with your food!

Rev is totally right. When I started eating raw almost 4 years ago I was 300 pounds... I released 145 in the first year and I'm still releasing. I ate anything I wanted... and lots of desserts everyday! All raw... lots of juice and smoothies and kale salad. Ohhhh how I loooooved my kale salad LOL
And I just melted away... with ease.
Alissa's philosophy is how I did it. Eat, eat, eat... enjoy your food and allow your body to respond.
I also healed a great deal of physical issues as well. Now I'm nice and healthy!!!
Come ... sit ... :hug

Hello G2B raw!
We are close, but not 100%. I am 42 almost 43, I weighed 246 1 1/2 years ago. It took me that long to lose, 43 pounds! Ugh. I was sooooo frustrated. I was doing what you mentioned, following all the lose weight quick diets that just never seemed to work. SO, while watching the news 1 night I saw a woman who had started eating all raw foods. WOW, I had no idea that type of eating was even out there. My husbnd looked at me and i looked at him. BOTH of us said ,cure for my allergies! I have some severe additive and preservative and artificial everything allergies. I bought a book, read it cover to cover. Now i'm looking for Alissas book the next time I go to the city. I have been eating as much raw as I can for the past 13 days. NO headaches, restless legs, runny nose, wheezy lungs, sneezing and coughing. All symptoms of my allergies, everyday. I have had a few mixed nuts (not raw) and ezekiel bread, but thats it. I feel so much better. 13 days ago I was 203.5 today I am 195.5! I am still considered obese, but so be it, it wont be for long. If I had known about a lifestyle like this 1 1/2 years ago, I could have avoided what I did to myself. Live and learn. Now im happy, I have soooo much energy, I feel incredible. WHY did'nt someone tell me about this!? I wake up in the moring and feel awesome, I go to bed and sleep better. *sigh* im losing weight, and feel good about that too. I cant wait until this summer hits and I can hop on my motorcycle and FIT into my leather jacket! It ZIPS and another 10 pounds and it will be comfortable.
How are you feeling on the raw food? Are you losing your weight? Are the aches and pains subsiding at all? Im so glad you posted this again.:woohoo:
Take care, :heart

What halped me was to Never blame myself and forget about what I knew as far as Nutrition an how we have been program to think. We were all brainwashed even the ppl making the food in my opinion. Some knew better but most did not.
I have been having this discussion : "how some foods we think are the core of are health, having been told soo long how impotant for us to consum". When actually most were just someone marketing & making money, not for the ppl but the end financial gain.
For instance Milk-Got milk? Since like the 50-60's they have been pushing the sales of Milk.In many cases it has caused more problems then helped. Check out Milksucks.com Soo much info. When you find out how and why we eat the foods that we do these days, its such an eye opener. We were ment to eat naturally.
Here is a bit about why we concider Bacon&eggs to be the super healthful breakfast in the sad. world.
"The full breakfast traditionally comprises several fried foods, usually including bacon and eggs, and is popular throughout the British Isles and other parts of the English-speaking world. The name "Bacon and eggs" was popularised by Edward Bernays in the 1920s. To promote sales of bacon, he conducted a survey of physicians and reported their recommendations that people eat hearty breakfasts. He sent the results of the survey to 5,000 physicians, along with publicity touting bacon and eggs as a hearty breakfast"
Keywords-((To promote sales))
These are just examples-there are many many sources about things like this.
For me after I had read many books, watched documentaries,I understood why and how such a thing has happen to me and others. When you understand why not to eat these foods, not just for weight or health issues, its hard to revert back .To me the (SAD) is just a slow form of poison.Back in the day before everything was tampered with,I think it was okay in extrem moderation. Now adays we have used and abused our resources to the point where its hard to find a pure food form.
The good news is Eat raw and get rid of all the rules that bogg ya down making other programs hard to stick out. There are no rules,I agree about Alissa, thats whats great about her,she gets it.Just eat raw and get healthy as time goes by if you want, then start to tweak things, but eat, live, heal in the meantime.
In time those nasty perservatives and chemicals that have a hold on you, making you want more and more will die off as you infuse your body with life giving foods.Your body is always hungry becasue it is malnourished,I am obese, have been all my life. Can remember times when I just couldnt get satisfied.I understand now thats becasue I wasnt feeding my body,I was filling my stomach. I started this lifestyle 7 months ago, having dropped 80lbs so far I can say without hesitation, this is the way to live!!!
Im blabby on here so forgive me lol
Just want everyone who is considering this rode to know why it can be so great. It will change your life.
When I first started I felt like I was eating too much, but the scale week after week went down.I gained a few times, but would always turn around and lose again. I made a pretty large meal for my first thanksgiving meal.Pumpkin Pie,Swirl Chocolate cheesecake.Alissa's mock turky, mash n gravy.marniated Brussle sprouts.I weighed in that week and lost 10.2 lbs..How cool is that and I ate almost that whole pumpkin pie by myself.
This is so do-able ask questions,do the 30 day challenge, drink your G-smoothies and lemon water ,research, check out the picture only thread on this forum .I had so many wierd looks when I began raw,now some of the closest ppl in my life are drinking Green smoothies and thinkin Hmmm there must be something to this.
I wish you and everyone else struggling to make the switch all the power needed to achive what you desire in life. God Bless!!! :hug

Congrats on beginning your journey. I don't know if you are a believer in God but I am going to give you a book to read. If you are interested in knowing the truth about how much God loves you no matter what you weigh. How can you serve him through improving other areas and you will loose weight in the process as just a benefit and have the tools to keep it off due to knowing your worth is not in pounds. (nor kilos or stones)
