I've been wanting to get an Ice Cream Maker. But don't know which to get!

If you're happy with yours, what kind of brand do you have, how long have you had it for, how often you use it, is it easy to use, easy to clean up?

Spring is on it's way!! And I'm feeling it and want to make some raw ice cream, so by the time Summer gets here I can scream for raw ice cream!!

Thanks!! :heart

I've got a Cuisinart and find it very easy to use & clean. Having said that - I used it all the time while I Somersized, but have never once used it since going raw 3 1/2 years ago!

There are probably newer (Cuisinart) models out, since I bought mine in probably 2002. It came with 2 containers and I'd keep one in the freezer, frozen and ready to go. *Ü*

I also have a Cuisinart...and I use mine ALL THE TIME!!!! I make different kinds of Gelato from RFFE and give them as presents at my Raw Classes!!! I find it SO easy to clean, and I keep my insert in my deep freezer and it's ready to go at a second's notice!

I've been hooked on it since my Class with Alissa and I tasted her Lavender Blue!!!! YUMMMMM!!!!!

Oh yea!!! Takes Gelato/Icecream to a whole new level!!!!

OOOOOH, ice cream! In just a few weeks I'll have my dehydrator AND ice cream maker and cannot WAIT. So excited for you to make some yummies!

I'll copy a bit from my old blog but answer your questions too. :)

Hello friends,

After several questions about my favorite ice cream maker, I thought I'd go ahead and share it with you. Believe it or not, it costs less than $50 and does a fabulous job without needing salt or to be hand cranked.

I've taught several classes with this beauty, and have referred at least a dozen clients to it. I haven't heard anything but positive feedback... The best thing is, it's super easy to use. I actually have two of them. You know, just in case I have guests who really like ice cream or teach a class with two different kinds.

As for the other deets, I think about 2 years? Have had FOUR but gifted two and kept two. SUPER easy to clean. SUPER easy to use. I've used this one for several classes and many many days. Only small drawback is that you have to keep the container in the freezer if you want to be ready at a moments' notice. I actually like to keep BOTH in the freezer (from the 2 ice cream makers!) in case I want to make a bunch and split up the base into 2 different recipes.

Oh, so jealous! lol!

Also a Cuisinart (Costco) and love it. Have used it several times but have only made Lemon Gelato and Mango Gelato--my two favorites. Took for a potluck a couple times and no one suspected it was raw!

Thanks everyone!!! :heart

Deb ~ Looks like the cusinart is the popular one so far!

I've heard that ice cream maker does require salt and ice outside of the barrel in the ice cream maker. Does every ice cream maker required those items? And just wondering if it takes up a lot of counter space? I have a small kitchen.....

January Noir ~ We're on the same wave length today!!

Aleesha ~ I think it's cool to have a juicer with instant ice cream!

Renee ~ The Lavender Blue!!! Taste so good! I got out the RFFE. This was like a total sign that I've got to get an ice cream maker and make Lavender Blue, because the first page I opened up to was the Lavender Blue Ice Cream Recipe!! I kid not!! Good kind of a crazy thing going on here!

Eva ~ Thank you so much for the link!! No, not jealous....just more motivated to get an ice cream maker!!! And gonna get one very soon!!

Lady Greens Jeans ~ The gelatos you've made sounds so oooo la la!! Do you care to share the recipes? If so, thanks!

We're all Cuisinart fans!

No - this type of ice cream maker does not require the salt and ice. Those are the old fashioned hand crank (and later electrified). We had one of those and donated it when we bought the Cuisinart. So please know you do not need the salt and ice.

It doesn't take up a lot of space, I'm guessing (from memory) maybe about a 10" diameter at the base - give or take. Mine is only on the countertop when I'm making ice cream, when it's not in use, it's put away (not sure if that's what you meant or not though). *Ü*

whoa-raw,

My boss had given me a bunch of myers lemons from his tree and I made the first batch using these. Used lemon juice and sweetened with agave and some water. Warning--myers lemons are like double strength so it was 'pucker city.' I made a second batch diluting it about half-strength and adding some rich almond milk (used less water and strained) since gelato is a lower fat ice cream so wanted it a little creamy. I do not have measurements as I just taste and go from there. As it tastes unfrozen is how it comes out, though. I also like background flavors so I often put in complementary flavors. I didn't with the lemon. Mango with a little hint of vanilla and a wee touch of lemond was very good. I have heard that some put in a touch of salt but I never have. I pureed the mango pulp--can use either fp or blender with a little water. Sweeten, add addit. water and/or the almond milk and freeze.

I had so much fun experimenting with this. My model had the top that you freeze overnight and then make. Soo much fun and so delicious. It freezes well after you make it although it is usually gone in a matter of days.

Hope this helps. Will measure and write down next time I make some.

Deb ~ Yeah, I just want to be able to leave it out on the counter if I can. I know once I have one.....I'll be making alot of raw ice cream!!

Whew....glad to know about not having to use the salt and ice! Thank you for letting me know!

Lady Green Jeans ~ I love lemons! I'm usually pretty good about figuring out the measurements once I know the ingredients. I've learned the hard way that once I make something that taste GOOD, write the measurements down. Then it's such a gem when I find it later!
SO Lucky U to get free lemons!! I would say about 60% of the time I'm using lemon for something!

And a few more things I want to try is vanilla mint with carob chips or orange ice cream! There's so many options when it comes to making raw ice cream.

And I can't believe I don't have an ice cream maker. That's going to change soon!!

Sheesh - I have GOT to try some ice cream here!

And I'm all for leaving appliances out - I wish I had enough counter space to leave all of mine out (ahhhh---sigh---) someday maybe! I *love* things out where I can see 'm, grab 'm and use 'm! *Ü*

whoa-raw,

I have the bad habit of just throwing things together and then wondering why I don't duplicate it perfectly the next time. Will start tracking better for that reason alone.
Wow--great recipe ideas. When summer hits, I will be poised with reamer, sweetener, ice cream maker and notepad. Maybe there will have to be a "Ice Cream" party. Would be worlds of fun.
