View Full Version : I tried raw potato today!
These pregnancy cravings have hit me hard. I was wanting french fries so bad but pushing hard to resist it. Finally I decided to make them without cooking, and would you know it, they were SHOCKINGLY delicious!! TOTALLY loved it.
Anyone else love raw potatoes??
I'm talking about white potatoes, by the way! Not sweet potatoes, which I already knew I loved!

I always loved them raw. When cutting up potatoes (in sad cooking days) would normally eat several pieces. Have nice crunch and certain starchy sweetness to them. Have not seen any raw recipes incorporating them so I thought I was in a strange minority. Too funny.
green goddess -- I just cut them like fry shapes in the mandoline then drizzled olive oil and some sea salt on them. I do not have a dehydrator here (will within a few weeks, thankfully!) so just ate them like that. Delish!
Lady Green Jeans -- So interesting! lol! I never dreamed of trying them before, and I thought people who did like them must be crazy. I was truly desperate today and figured it was worth trying. I had NO idea I'd LOVE them! lol! You can expect some recipes to come from me in the coming days!!

As a kid, me and my sister always ate raw potatoes, because often that was all there was to eat in the house. I ate them into my adulthood and still love them to this day, but I have heard they may not be so good for you raw. So I've not been eating them. I should research this further.
Pippin, let me know what you find out, because I felt SO GOOD after having them! SO GOOD! It was JUST what my body was asking for! I can't even believe how much I enjoyed them. My sister-in-law was there and she had some French fries which I cut for her! lol! BUT I just can't even imagine them being toxic considering how much my body was happy for them!

actually there's lots of threads on this forum about why you should not consume raw potatoes... let me do a search and come back with links for ya. :heart
lol Ruh Roh! Dear, this is where one has to ask, do I listen to my body or to others? Still want to see the threads though. I promise I won't plug my ears and hum. I'll listen, I just don't know if my body will be louder.

That's helpful info Aleesha! Thank you!!
I'm thinking it might be nice to massage them in olive oil next time to break them down some, like I do with a lot of other veggies and the occasional onion.
I am thinking they would not be good to eat every day, like spinach for example, but I'm not convinced they are awful either. :)
YAY, thanks for sharing that thread!!

i make my sweet potato fries the same way you did your potato fries... i had that for dinner last night - and the night before LOL mmm love em!!! so simple.
i know others have used a spiral cutter (never remember the names of those tools) to make thin curlie fries and then dehydrate them! they spice em up too!
i'd do that with sweet potatoes (cause i don't eat white potatoes)

dated info but the late raw foodist norman walker was all for raw potato
what was interesting to me was juicing a few and seeing all the fine powdered starch that would be at the bottom of the juice , fine like
wet baking soda
ide sure like to mandolin a bunch of them super thin then season and sun dry in giant solar dehydrator , all summer storing up huge stock piles for winter
never used a spiralizer but wonder if you could make long spirals that might dry better than flat slices

What if you soaked the potatoes in water, like we do nuts to get rid of some of the starch. Just a thought.

Just wondering if it was actually the potatoes you enjoyed or the combination of sugar(potato), fat(olive oil) and salt? Sugar, fat and salt is the winning combination found in SAD foods which is what makes them so palatable and moorish. Just a thought.:hug
