Hello all! I am wondering if anyone here could tell me their experience juice fasting/feasting while also adding supplements such as spirulina, green powder, maca, herbal medicinal tonics, vitamins etc. In past fasts I have always omitted these supplements but I am wondering why I did, and what differences (negative or positive) they could have on the fast. Likewise, kombucha?

Thank you! As there are many experienced fasters on this board, I appreciate your stories and wisdom very much!

Have a super day

Ps. The title should say powders :)

there are some things you don't want to include while fasting. the reason is... if it's a stimulant to your organs... that can be too hard on them. kombucha is one of those items. so is black, green and white teas.

i've added spirulina, chlorella, MSM, triphala and probiotics while fasting but none of the other items you asked about.

anything that needs to be digested (like a vitamin) would not be wise since the whole point of fasting is to let your digestion sleep/rest/shut down completely (depending on the type of fast).

Thanks Aleesha! So I guess my question is -- why doesn't spirulina/chlorella etc. prompt your digestive system, but say a B vitamin would? Any insight?

ps. What about oils? I assume they need to be digested so should be omitted if objective is to move energy away from the digestive system?

Merci!

The green powders are water soluble so I suspect your body doesn't see them as solid food....you would omit oils though as they stimulate bile flow from the liver to enable the digestion of the fats.

nope... oils are good while fasting. i take in oil every day of my fasts. a nice 3-6-9 oil, hemp oil, flax oil, coconut oil... any of those are good to add.

all i can tell you is this... spirulina and chlorella don't stimulate my digestion. can't tell you if or why another vitamin would. i don't take supplements like that at all.
