one thing with apples is they are cheap and they give off a lot of juice so they blend well in the smoothies.

Used to be banana, spinach, kale, kiwi, pear, mango, few sprigs of mint.
My new favourite is, banana, pear, spinach/kale or both, hemp protein powder, almond yogurt, vanilla nutrition essentials (natural choice products), a few shakes of cinnamon and a nut milk if possible, otherwise water. Thick, creamy, filly and tasty. Great for after a workout.

yep. and if you put apples in a green star juicer you can barely get any pulp to come out - it just goes straight into juice.
its scary how little fiber is in apples and how much sugar.

Hmm... for me I like to keep things simple. I wasn't super into green smoothies at first, I had a tough time getting the right proportions of which kind of fruit. Once I got the knack of it I was sail

I don't think it's scary at all, considering apples are water rich. :heart

Personally tho, I find it's pretty hard to go wrong with green smoothies, I have favorites, but I can only remember one occasion I absolutely didn't like what I concocted, when I added rocket leaves to it, was pretty undrinkable. So I wouldn't recommend that. Don't know what possessed me.
I'm newer to juicing but so far I feel the same about that, I'm loving everything I've made. :)
Though a lot of people don't like the taste of wheatgrass, I love it.

Yo Proteus....... What's your favorite Green Smoothie?
100 grams of spinach with either about ~300 grams worth of orange OR 300 - 400 grams of frozen strawberries. no water. you can add a few ice cubes. it comes out pretty thick but that's how i like them and i drink straight out of the carafe.
when i peel the orange i only cut off about 60% of the skin, just the outer part. i leave plenty of white pith on. the white stuff blends very evenly, doesn't have much of a taste and makes the smoothie thicker.

Right now my favourite is the simplest I've ever made:
-several bananas
-cram in as much greens (kale, spinach, chard, and right now a bit of parsley! ;) ) as I can
-blend with water
I'm using frozen bananas at the moment, and the smoothies are so creamy. I'd also like to get into more savoury smoothies (get more veggies in!), so I'd love to see more recipes of that from people!

I love so many, but I really like Sarma's cilantro shake minus the vanilla
I forget the actual recipe, but I usually use...
3 or 4 ruby red grapefruits,
1 or 2 cucumbers (peeled unless homegrown)
1 large bunch of cilantro
you can add dates or agave if you want it sweeter.
it's kind of fizzy and quite refreshing!

I just got these recipes last week at our monthly raw food group. They were both amazing! I went out and bought Fenugreek seeds today and will begin spouting just to make the Milk Shake Smoothie recipe. Really...you've got to try these.
MILK SHAKE SMOOTHIE
1 banana
Brazil Nuts (a handful of about 12)
snip about one-half inch of vanilla bean
1 date (seed removed) "can use stevia instead"
1 C. water
Fenugreek spouts - 1 handful (about 1/2 C.)
Sprinkle Cinnamon
Blend all ingredients in a blender.
Yields: 1.5 - 2 cups
FRUIT SMOOTHIE
1 banana
8-9 Brazil nuts
1.5 C. orange juice
Spinach (handful, approx 1 C.)
6 sprigs of cilantro
3 sprigs of parsley
1/2 C sprouts (she used Fenugreek)
Yields: 2.5 Cups
**Sometimes she adds a few lettuce leaves too. Also adds either strawberries or blueberries or pineapple or cranberries to taste. Can also use hazelnuts/filberts or pumpkin seeds or almonds instead of brazil nuts to add a different taste (about 1/3 C.) It's nice to save half of the mixture to drink later in the day. It will give you energy!

Adding a few pieces of frozen broccoli is really good to any smoothie. also, love chlorella! (i like the lighter green color one from Z naturals - thin cell wall)

Hmmm, I never saw a lot of carrot in these recipes. I am in love with carrot juice! I typically add:
-Carrot (two or three)
-Cucumber (Whole cucumber)
-Celery (one or two sprigs)
-Spinach (An entire bag of organic baby Spinach)
-Leafy Greens (An entire bag of organic)
-Strawberries (I don't juice these, they get mixed with the juice in the blender)
-Banana (one, also gets mixed in the blender)
If I leave out the strawberries or banana it takes a lot more motivation to drink. They do such a great job of making it palatable!

My favorite green juice, not a smoothie is:
2 tomatoes
3-4 carrots
lg bunch of spinach
handful of lettuce
3 celery stalks
half a cucumber
a clove of garlic
half a jalapeno
couple dashes of cayenne
a dash of salt
It would probably be a good smoothie, too!
