Hello,

I'm new here and wondering which to buy. I've heard that you can make everything in a good blender.

Definitely a blender I say.

I have a blendtec blender and that caters to all my blending and processing needs.

They both have advantages, but I'd say the blender is more versatile and gets more use. I do like the food processor for the grating blade lately, as I've been shredding lots of apples for my puddings, but the blender I use at least once every day!

Oh, and I'd get a powerful blender, like the vitamix, which I have, or I've heard the blendtec is also great!

IF you are going to do green smoothies... then a blender can do that for ya. if you aren't then a food processor may get more of a work out for you.

it depends on what you want to make/consume.

for me... it's a juicer LOL

blender or processor?

both, plus a juicer. but blender comes first.

dehydrator is optional.

food processor is basically a blender for thick substances, while a blender is a food processor for thinner substances.

blender is taller and better sealed to keep liquids from spilling out, it also spins faster to get a thinner blend.

food processor is wider, with more torque but less speed, and with a blade that sweeps the bottom to keep things form getting stuck.

Thanks everyone! I do have a juicer, but such a pain to clean. And I find that I use a TON of veggies and fruits for one tall glass. And the organic produce to be trucked to the northeast with the gas prices these days are super high!

I got a great blender last night and made a yummy kale, strawberry and banana smoothie this am!

I always recommend getting an AWESOME, ridiculously expensive blender and a CHEAP, CRAPPY food processor. :)

You do need both, but put all your money into the blender and cheap out on the food processor.

i make nut / seed milk with fruit smoothies in a cheap blender to which i add things like hemp seed / wheat germ / etc

then use knife / cutting board to make salads

eat fruit / nuts whole

dont want hassle of cleaning juicer / processor ,
want eating a simple / efficient fueling process

and see dehydrating as not optimal , plus a hassle

though i plan on making a huge solar dehydrator i can just throw
a bunch of things in like tomatoes to make giant batches easily

that seems to be what most people are doing - but exactly what is the logic behind it ?

what if you wanted to make something like hummus ?

like i said i dont want the hassle , i dont need to complicate eating

the blenders easy to clean and quick , if i cant make it with a knife
or blender i dont get involved with it as the bottom lines nutrition
and a processor isnt going to make my diet more nutricious

Blender.

I am getting by just fine with a cheapo blender and a good juicer. It would be nice to have a food processor, but I don't really need it much and I don't have the space. The blender can make nut milks, smoothies (both fruit and green -- green smoothies won't be as good as in a high-powered blender, but good enough) salad dressings, puddings, soups, and so on. I use my blender sometimes multiple times a day.

If I had a food processor, I'd probably use it to make rich desserts. So maybe it's good I don't have one. :)

I make nut pates in my juicer. I just put the soaked nuts through with the blank plate to process them and the mix in the other ingredients.

Blender. I use mine almost everyday but I mostly make smoothies with it.

Because the difference between a cheap food processor and an expensive one is pretty much negligible, IMO. Like maybe comparing an 8 to a 10.

But the difference between a crappy and a good blender is HUGE and so worth the money. Like comparing a 3 to a 10.

i guess it depends what you use them for.

I guess if you're experimenting like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmkanjPULMM then it's probably a HUGE difference :)

they cheat in their videos, which is one of the reasons i got a Vitamix. like in the video you posted they skipped the middle part when avos got stuck on the sides, and then just showed the finished product - in my book that's cheating. or see the following:

in the above case blendtec actually admitted lying.

despicable ...

but at least they tried blending food this time, must be a first for Blendtec !
