Hi Raw Friends!

What is your typical breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? Or do you eat like a hobbit? first dinner, second dinner?

How much do you eat? Like if you drink a green smoothie, is it a quart jars worth? Or do you suck down an entire vitamix blender pitcher?

Are you surprized at how much you eat? Or how little it takes to sustain you?

Thanks! just curious!

i am a huge eater when i'm eating. huge. people are surprised by how much i eat actually... they figure that since i fast so much i eat like a bird. not true at all.

a typical day for me is: fruit salad with lots of varieties of fruit - shredded coconut and chia seeds on top... often cacao nibs as well. and then a huge huge huge salad... always has tomatoes and cucumbers in it and all the rest is whatever i'm hankering for. then i always have a raw dessert in the evening. i love sweets!

fasting-wise obviously it's no solid foods but as much juice as i want. i always have my tomato juice blend for dinner though. lots of spices added in. i love spicy stuff.

I do not have a typical day. It is a case of eating what I feel like.

I eat a lot! For breakfast it is usually a green smoothie about a liter worth, then snack on fruit until lunch time. For lunch it is usually a sandwich on raw apple flax bread loaded with veggies, then I snack on almost raw granola ( I put oats in the raw granola I make so it is not 100% raw, but I like it) I eat this with dried mango or chocolate (again not raw, but it's a process) then I am usually good until dinner when I have some kind of salad or raw entrée depending on what I feel like making.

Good thread I am always wondering what others are eating to get new ideas. :)

Great thread to get ideas about meals!

>For breakfast, I typically have a honeydew or cantaloupe, blended up in the vitamix, with half a cucumber added. Or lately a huge bowl of oranges.

>Before lunch I make a huge green smoothie, and have a litre then, and save the other litre for later.

>Lunch is often lettuce wraps, either sweet or savoury. If I've juiced in the morning, it'll be my pulp made into a soup with avocadoes, cashews, and chopped veggies added.

>Then I'll have the other half of my green smoothie.

>For dinner, it's been really random. Sometimes a big savoury salad, sometimes a shredded-apple pudding, sometimes another huge green smoothie, depending where I am and if I had to prep dinner earlier (I work late evenings).

>Sometimes I'll get home from work after midnight (:() and have a quick snack of butter lettuce leaves with a spray of Braggs, so yummy!

Of course, my food choices change a lot, with whatever's in season (or on sale!), and depending on the course of my day. Sometimes I work 12-hour days and have to carry all the food I can to work with me (I don't have a car!)

Hi Green Goddess,

I don't have a car either. It was either that or organics.......

I ride my bike around with the saddle bags stuffed full of food. My coworkers think I'm so peculiar for not eating the hydrogenated-saturated food at work.

My days are always different. Variation depends on the seasons, the money in my pockets, and how hungry i am, among other things.

When I'm working my extremely physically demanding job, this is what I usually eat:

Morning (before work):
7am
4 glasses of water.
shot of 1/2 lemon juiced OR 1 grapefruit juiced
4-5 bananas OR mango/banana/pineapple smoothie OR a different fruit smoothie

10am:
apple, banana or 2

12pm:
big bowl of fruit (mango, banana, strawberry, pineapple, raisin, date, dried cranberry)

2pm:
apple

After Work 5pm:
carrot/beet/ginger Juice
BIG veggie salad with sprouts on top (broccoli, alfalfa, fennugreek, sunflower...) with homemade dressing (usually lemon, cayenne, apple cider vinegar....)

7-8pm:
dates with almond butter on top OR strawberries or something.

NON working day

morning:
SAME

12pm:
fruit salad + fruit juice like apple or pineapple

2pm:
more fruit maybe ill eat like 1/3 of a pineapple or a big handful of dates or something

dinner:
zucchinni pasta OR flax bread with avocado and tomato slices OR mango chutney OR nori rolls, OR something

Dessert:
fruit

Everyday, I drink tons and tons of water, and always have warm water or tea before bed.

Well, I seem to have a routine of a green smoothie--just a glass full- for breafast and some sort of fruit(whatever I have--I might make apple sauce, apple cobbler, just cut up fruit)

Lunch is usually a salad
Dinner is another glass of green smoothie and then whatever---could be a salad, raw spaghetti, cabbage rolls etc --sometimes I eat fruit

For breakfast I'd have a pint of green juice. For the last while it's been a spicy lemon ginger blast.

For lunch I'd have a protein shake, typically banana, another piece of fruit, hemp protein, nutrition essentials (from NCP), almond yogurt, and kale or spinach or both.

For dinner I'd usually have a half & half meal. So something cooked along with some sort of salad. I find as the day goes on I start to crave something a bit more substantial than raw can usually provide. So I might make a veggie burger, with some quinoa and a salad.

Occasionally later on I'd make a small raw meal, a zucchini spaghetti with a sauce. Or try out a recipe I've read about.

Between meals I might snack on homemade almond yogurt (dairy free), nuts and veggies, and I usually have some sort of dip for dippage. I drink green powder drinks throughout the day, which are more for refreshment but can stave off the desire to snack.

I'm happy with this diet, I'm not even vegan as I sometimes eat eggs and salmon. But for me, for now, this diet suits. I don't want to cut out the eggs and fish (always free range organic and ocean caught respectively), but a few years ago I didn't want to cut out the steaks, pizzas, and cows milk, yuk. So who knows I could eventually become vegan...

I work from home so it's easier for me to manage this sort of diet than I imagine it would be if I had to eat like I do at a job.

Breakfast is usually fruit til 11am
Green smoothie
Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink Smoothie
Lara bar or fudge balls or sesame fudge...something heavy to get me home
Dinner is usually a recipe such as raw pizza, tacos, guac and salsa, wraps, salad etc
I munch on flax crackers thru the day. We also eat blue chips as a cheat.

I have a glass of water with lemon juice just first thing in the morning, then more water.
After that I would usually have a big bowl of fruit salad: pineapple, mangoes, kiwi, orange, clementines, apples, pears, etc... and some berries on top if I have it.

For lunch - a huge portion of salad: lettuce, spinach, rocket, watercress, cabbage, broccoli, etc... again anything I got. I usully add a bit of natural yougurt which is not very raw, I know, but I love it, and a good spoon of cold pressed unfiltered flax oil..:eat
Then later after a couple of hours, maybe a banana or dates with tea. Can't give up on tea especially these cold days.:heart

For dinner - more salad with raw tahini, fruit, some almonds.

Stina, every day it is different! But no matter what day, I almost always have at least a liter of green smoothie. I eat a fair amount of "whole foods" where I will just eat, say, 5 tomatoes or 2 mangoes. But I do have some "fun foods" too. Like that pancake recipe I posted! I'm having that tomorrow for Sunday brunch!!

Every day is a new culinary adventure, even when it is as simple as ever! Every tomato, every food rings a different bell when the flavors hit my mouth. I LOVE being raw and tasting all the amazingness that nature has to offer us!!

We do not allow links on the forum. The reason... links often get broken and then the archives aren't as useful to our members.

So, in the future, if you don't have permission to share a recipe with the forum then don't.

We have always removed links and added in the text... and unless Alissa changes this rule, we always will.

I am so confused. ::scratching head:: I am very surprised that it's the policy of the forum to copy/paste info from websites when it specifically says on the site that it is not permitted. Am I missing something? I've been posting here since March of 2007, and that is definitely news to me!

Aleesha Sattva

No Eva... I didn't see the part that said you needed permission cause I don't read the entire page when I'm moderating. You had a link, I went in copy and pasted and removed the link. We do it all the time, always have since before I was a moddie.

I apologize for not seeing your note about not copying the recipe. Had I seen it, I would have contacted you directly.

in light,
Aleesha

This is only my second day raw (or at least 95% raw :P) but I would like to give my input:

For breakfast, I always have fruit. Yesterday, it was a cup of grapes and a blood orange and today it was a big fruit salad.

Lunch is usually a big salad. I like to use baby romaine, baby spinach, red peppers, tomatoes, blood oranges, carrots, cucumbers and whatever other veggies or fruits I have on hand at the time that would taste good in the salad :)

Dinner is either another salad, or I will try a raw recipe. Tonight, for instance, I will be making raw zucchini pasta with a raw pesto sauce and adding a salad to it.

For snacks, I like fruits and veggies (of course, lol) and occasionally a couple pieces of dried fruit (although they are a bit too sweet for my tastes at the moment). I've been meaning to try this raw date "brownies" recipe I've found though.

I'm actually a little worried that I don't eat enough calories since I'm not too much of a nut person. Actually, the only nuts I really like are peanuts, and they are a legume, lol. I guess I'lll just have to see how I'm feeling when I'm eating as much as I am now :)

My typical day is:

breakfast: pint of smoothie with greens, (today kale & dandelion) banana, berries and some supplements

lunch: usually a salad or raw gourmet left overs, and a couple of oranges

snack: nuts, blueberrie and a banana

dinner: anything really, lots of pates with either veggies or sprouts since it's so easy to stick everything in the processor. guac wraps and quick salads too

juices: i'll also have a juice every few nights after dinner.

yesterday i made a whole bunch of recipes from alyssa's last book so i should hopefully be set for the work week.

omg - how on earth did she get that blue cheese dressing recipe??? my very non raw omnivore husband loved it. he said it tasted exactly like the real thing!

Yay! Spring is finally here... :excited:

My first raw winter was toooough, to say the least. I think this is because I had to figure out what I liked and what my body was not into having, and then the holidays got me all out of whack. It's a lot easier to experiment when the sun is shining. When it's cold and gray and snowing, I just want to not think and to get me some eats. I learned that I just don't like soups that have blended avocados. They always sound delicious, but my tummy just says, no thank you. But one thing I did discovered I loved was coconut meat. Yay, coconut meat...especially raw ceviche! I also developed a love for kelp noodles, which were so much more satisfying to me than zuchinni pasta. Oh, and I got really into ayurvedic nutrition, and tailored it easily to the raw lifestyle. For example, the winter dosha (vata) needs things things that will combat the dry, cold air, like olive oil and omega-3 enriched foods. I was really surprised at how much better I felt when I started putting hemp seeds into my morning green smoothies!

It's funny the things that work and the things that don't work... like I thought I should give up oranges and other fruits in the wintertime, since they are supposed to be summertime foods, but that was when I started to get really depressed and kind of cranky... as soon as I brought back the fruit, I was so much happier. In addition, I read that actually spicy foods like chile peppers and such should also be eaten in the summer, but for me that wasn't the case. Add the picante definitely helped me to survive those cold, cold days.

But! The snow is melting away, away... and I have officially retired my winter coat. :woohoo: And I can tell my body knows its seasonal because lately I have been craving fruit, fruit, fruit. My breakfast this morning was just a huge serving of freshly washed grapes. I also bought these gorgeous red peppers that are making me feel romantic . The sky is still gray, but eating all this fresh produce is helping me to stay sunny. I'm also thinking about going to the store and getting cilantro and mango.

Here's hoping my raw food journey next winter is going to be an even greater success, because now I have experience with my own body's wants and needs. But still! I'm so happy that spring is coming... bring on the SUN!

Here's my usual food plan now that winter has gone away...

Breakfast: Green smoothie and/or just a lot of fruit. I'm running about most days so there's no time for a snack, so I like to have some fat too to help my curb my hunger, so I'll have raw almond butter on a banana or an apple and that does the trick.

Lunch: A salad. What could be easier? I don't like tomatoes but I love red bell peppers for color. I also love herbs in my salad like fresh basil. Salad dressing is this blended concoction of 3/4 cup orange juice, 1/3 cup mustard
1 cup olive oil, 1 cup olive oil, salt and pepper.

Dinner: Collard wraps. Lots of veggies like bell peppers and cucumbers mashed in with avocado and a generous helping of garlic.

Yay fun. How are you all doing, rawbies? Anybody else estatic about Spring? :throwhearts:

Hey Stella Green,

How did you learn to tailor your raw food diet to your dosha?

Is there a mistake in your salad dressing recipe? O.o. is listed twice.

Thanks for sharing!

First thing in the morning I drink lemon water, then go for a run or workout.
After that, I have about 12 oz of green juice.

For lunch sometimes I have a large salad or manna bread (I know; not raw) with avocado, grape tomatoes, lettuce and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds.

Dinner depends on how I feel. I made a raw lasagna last week that was wonderful and had that a couple of nights. One day I had salad for breakfast.

Tonight I made spring rolls. I used the rice wrapper which isn't raw, but I wanted to try it. I included shredded carrot, zuchinni, cucumber, cilantro and avocado. Interestingly, I didn't like the tast of the rice wrappers, so won't be using those next time. I'm finding the taste of things "not raw" are not as appealing as they used to be.

I love eating this way. I feel wonderful!:throwhearts:
