Good afternoon all,
I sprouted a cold sore yesterday seemingly out of no-where. Does anyone know the trigger for these? Is it too much acid?

I usually take Lysine to treat these, anyone know a better raw remedy? These aren't the little ones on the side of the mouth, they are very large, inside my lower lip and very painful....HELP! :(

I remember Nora Lenz of rawschool.com saying in her story how initially her body would detox by way of cold sores. But after a while she didn't get them anymore.

Tea tree oil dabbed on may be helpful but it's really one of the body's many mechanisms for releasing toxins.

I have always had a theory that cold sores are a result of too much acid in my body...I have noticed over the years a correlation with stress and other acid-forming things and the increased rate of sores. Since going raw I have not had ONE!!!!! I think it's because I am hopefully more alkaline now.

The body detoxes the easiest way it knows how, through the nose as stuffy and runny, through the mouth as cold sores, and bad breath, coated tongue,
through the skin, as bad smelling sweat, and a rash, through the digestive system, as gas, bloating, diarhea, etc. These are the most common of detox symptoms, just so you know.

Also, the most important thing that detox does, is it takes you back to when you were toxic in the past, and it detoxes that area.

so, if you had bad cramps with pms etc, you will experience that again, with your detox, if you had migraines, then you'll have one, this is just the body's way of releasing what was left over from before.

Usually, it is simply a one time deal, but depending on your level of toxicity, it can take a while to detox.

And your body will know what and where you need to detox the most.

You see, you may loose a bunch of weight right off the bat, then not lose any for a month, but I've learned that your body is detoxing during that time, you won't lose any weight, because your body is dealing with other stuff.

Calendula ointment on the sore and lysine in tablet forms works for me. Also avoid foods high in arginine as this depletes the body of lysine - can't think of the foods at present but I definitely know one is chocolate.

Stress is usually a precursor to cold sores as is any time your body is run down.

I've experienced getting little ones just inside my lower lip area whenever I was EXTREMELY stessed. Sometimes I'd get one after biting the inside cheek of my mouth...and zing!...it'd turn into a "sore". :(

Two things I've done in the past:

- lavender essential oil, straight on the spot

- apple cider vinegar mixed with water and gargle

Thanks all for your suggestions. I ended up doing nothing with the sore other than taking hot baths with lavender and doing yoga. And eating raw of course!

The funny part was that the cold sore duration was MUCH shorter than usual, only a few days. Before raw, it would last for weeks and sometimes it was so bad my lip would actually split from the swelling.

Thanks again!! You guys are amazing..

Use Ginger root. Cut the ginger and hold it onto the sore. Seriously, this works great.

Hold it when your sitting around, just place it the root and hold it. Let it do its magic!

Hi Sicilian Girl, I had a stomach ulcer starting - also an acid condition - and I basically cured it by eating mostly alkaline foods for a while... raw cabbage is really good, all raw greens. You know the score. Good luck
