hi guys,
you guys are alll so full of information, and links to studies and such..i decided to ask a question...My mother and I both have the propensity for depression..like, bi-polar style...allthough thru diet, and certain other changes, i have pretty much alleviated mine..Every now and then i feel it kickin in a little..and she still eats total sad, and still has hers...My question is, are there any food in the raw state that can cause or aggrevate depression...for example...could raw tomatoes be a NO NO..or avocado, or any other certain foods that i may need to be aware of. I know that eating all raw is going to do wonders in the first place regardless..but now that i am getting pretty deep into the raw lifestyle, i wondered if there was anything in particular i should avoid...thanks for advice or info in advance

Definitely watch the nuts. They are ok in very small amounts, but regular consumption causes depression

Try these links out. They should help you greatly.

Dont give up bananas read this: Depression: Bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin known to help you relax, thereby improving mood and helping to create a happier feeling. This has been proven in a study done with depressed patients. (http://www.nutricounter.com/articles/sanchez.htm)
Specifically for Bi-polar - Source mentalhealth.com
Fruits and Vegetables Not Allowed: Fava or broad bean pods Sauerkraut; Any over-ripe or spoiled fruit or vegetables (http://www.mentalhealth.com/book/p40-ma01.html)

Dusty, there is really no way to answer this for you. Every body is different and will react differently to the same food. All I can suggest for you is to keep a food journal and also record in it your mood. After awhile you should be able to sense a pattern. You should be able to recognize the frequency of how you feel and what foods preceeded your mood shift.
I would not avoid any foods because someone else reacted to them. You are completely different. Experiment, experience and then observe. Your body will tell you, it just takes some effort to hear it, because we are not used to doing so.
Good luck! You can figure it out!
Warmly~

I've noticed that there are no set rules. What makes me foggy one day is something I need six of next week. I think the best advice I could give you (as someone who's had a long history of depression and bi-polarism) is that the more you give your body what it asks for, the less you'll find depressing and manic food.
