Hey,

I have been a vegetarian for about 7 months and went 100% raw about 9 days ago, but a few days before that I was nearly 80-90% raw. I started developing puffy eyes during the few days when I went 80-90% raw. These puffy eyes, which are slightly dark still exist, and are most potent when I wake up in the morning. Does anyone know why this is occurring?

My typical diet includes:

Green smoothie in the morning - 2 cups spinach, 3/4 cilantro, some other green mix, 2 banans, 1 lemon, 1 apple

Throughout the day I usually eat - 3 bananas, 1 mango, 6 large carrots, good amount of celery, 2 apples, some spinach/green mix and maybe some sunflower seeds

Night - usually another green smoothie and if I'm still hungry later I might have a bit of fruit.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

As far as I know puffy eyes is one of the symptoms for iodine deficency, so check that. But of course there could be many other reasons. Dark: maybe you're scratching them often, so the blood vessels there got damaged?

I read recently somewhere, ...that the skin under the eyes is very thin and is reflecting poorly oxygenated blood if it is dark. ...I notice my lips are also duller when my eyes are darker, rather than a nice dark pink/red.

It said that anything that is causing poor oxygenation of the blood could be the cause...this could be iron levels, B12 which affects iron levels if low, cardiovascular circulation (exercise).

Thanks for the replys.

The things I recently stopped eating were: eggs, potatoes, and whole wheat bread.

Someone told me that I might be detoxing cooked food...

Eggs are very healthy food, I wouldn't cut on that.

It could be detox. When I was a SAD eater, I had issues with very dark/puffy eyes. Going raw for many months has helped this. It takes time.

Getting enough salt has helped. I use himalayan salt.

Getting enough sleep is key. Before raw, I was sleeping only about 6-7 hours a night, drinking, staying up late, not winding down my day in a healthy manner. While detoxing I was sleeping 8-12 hours a night. Now 6-7 are more than enough for me, but every body is different so you need to see for yourself.

Getting enough fluids. When I'm dehydrated, my puffy circles reappear. It's a signal for me to drink more.

And as someone else has mentioned- exercise. Get that blood flowin, and circulating.

And last but not least, patience. It takes awhile for some people. Relax, and do some yoga, meditation, de-stressing can really help with this kind of issue.
