Hi. :)
First, let me say that I am not eating a raw diet. Right now I`m not even eating a vegetarian diet.
I was a vegetarian for 2 years, until a few months ago. During a doctorsvisit I found out that I had diabetes, type 2. I was shocked. (I`m overweight, but I honestly didn`t suspect diabetes at all.) Sooo, I started taking the pills my doc gave me (Metformin) and started measuring my bloodsugar every day. And, I started to google and try to find out stuff about diabetes and diet. And everywhere, people told me that the "only" ay to get a low(er) bloodsugar was to eat a low carb, high fat diet with lots of meat. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. But, after reading/hearing the same thing a gazillion times, I started eating meat again. And sure enough, my bloodsugar got lower. :( But it feels wrong!! In my heart, I still believe that being a meateater is less healthy than being a vegetarian/vegan/raw foodist.
Sooo, this was a very longwinded way of asking if you guys know anything about diabetes and a vegetarian/vegan/raw food-diet? I would LOVE help, tips and advice on how to eat healthy without this dang bloodsugar rising everytime I look at a fruit. *sigh* I`m asking you people, because I have been reading in this forum for a long time. You seem like a group of very healthconscious women/men.
Ooh, and please tell me if my english is difficult to understand. :) I`m Norwegian. :)

I was type 2... not anymore! Eating raw live foods took that off my health-table!
Watch a few movies... Reversing the Irreversible and Raw for Thirty Days... both are very empowering and inspiring!!!

I`m now watching episode 4 of the You Tube video postet in this thread. Thanks so much! :) I would looooove to see more of what kind of food they are eating, though.
I have one question for those of you who have/had diabetes: Do you eat fruit? I soooooo want to eat fruit, but my bloodsugar just goes crazy if I eat more than just a tiny amount....

You can get the Rainbow cuisine book. It tells you which fruits are low glycemic. Berries seem to be good
Do you have something to measure your blood sugar?
Victoria Butenko son was diabetic and he was eating fruits, he saw the blood sugar would go high but it would normalize in no time. He was craving for a lot of mango. Perhaps visit their site: rawfamily.com
The diet in this movie was monitor with Dr. Gabriel Cousens, i believe he didn't include much fruit but you will have the informations in his book.
There are people on this board that only eat what they want and they did reverse diabetic.
I am not a doctor, please make sure to research fully.

I believe he said the lower fat version works best in the movie, BUT if you search Rawdawg Rory...com? He's on facebook too, he helped his mom recover with just a regular raw vegan diet, as in a bit of everything, nothing restricted.

You have high blood sugar because your body cannot accept any more sugar from your blood, because it is already stuffed.
sure if you stop eating foods with sugar in them your blood sugar will be lower - but you're still going to die from heart disease just the same. you cannot be overweight and healthy at the same time - it is not physically possible.
eat less. exercise more. lose weight.

Ok.....
Thanks tot hose of you who have tried answering my questions. :)
And to Proteus: Have you considered talking a little less hurtfull to people? I know my weight has a lot do to with it. But at the same time, I know of several people with diabetes type 2 who are NOT overweight, so there ARE other reasons for diabetes, too.
Anyway. I didn`t post here to be insulted and talked down to.
Thanks to those who have actually helped. :)

Just wanted to give you good luck wishes on your journey to health...you can do this..just put your mind to it..do your research and dive in.
In Alissa's book it talks about how a diabetic should add some nuts in the beginning of the start of consuming fruits and maybe also add some celery as they both help slow down the sugar absorption....
Do you have Living on Live Foods, written by Alissa Cohen? Highly recommend it...it is my RAW bible.
One of my favorite sayings..
"If eating fruits didn't cause diabetes, candida or cancer, why would you believe that avoiding fruit would correct them?"

When I was found out that I had diabetes, I was freaked, The last thing I needed was someone who is a negative truth talker (speaks the truth in a negative way)! I really needed someone who was supportive and kind in finding positive solutions. I found none outside of my world at the time and really really pumped up my faith in believing that this can be overcome as long as I keep searching for the solutions that I can be well again. I refused to listen to anyone who told me I couldn't or had a negative approach to it. Then I was guided to raw food and everyday I'm so grateful for that!!!! Then I made changes with raw food and started to exercise. I started to get well again. The last thing I wanted was to listen to anybody who talks negative. And I realized too when I found out that I had diabetes, having a big heart of love is all that matters when it really comes down to it. The best thing is to just stay positive and focus on positive energy throughout the healing journey and even when the healing has already taken place. Keep the positivity going.
You're are so lucky to find raw food, finding the support here, and good for you for wanting to overcome this as well!!
I have a line that have helped as I took actions to overcome this. Here it is.
You are loved, you are protected, and your wounds will be made whole.
I wish you a very blessed healing journey! :heart
Much love to you!!

I know my weight has a lot do to with it. But at the same time, I know of several people with diabetes type 2 who are NOT overweight
do you have normal blood pressure? cholesterol? resting heart rate? is your switch to atkins diet having a positive effect on that?
when you lose weight EVERYTHING improves. if you simply cut out the sugar, well, it *might* help, depending on your unique biology. i mean you have to do what works for you - if it works it works. but you have to look at more than just blood sugar to tell if it is working.
to dramatically lower sugar intake you can eat things like avocados and nuts. i personally DO believe that most people ( whether on SAD diet or RAW diet ) consume too much sugar, but i would rather be consuming 150 grams of sugar and be lean than be consuming 5 grams of sugar and be overweight.

Diabetics and fruit is one thing I've always wondered about. Can diabetics not have fruit at all? I loved the movie Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 days, but I didn't notice until the end that they probably didn't have fruit because they were diabetic. I think that's a HUGE thing to neglect to mention. It's hard for me to imagine my raw food diet without fruit -- I'm sure it's done very successfully by many happy, healthy people, but for me, fruit is an important part of the diet. So I wish the movie had kind of covered that.
To the OP -- good for you for seeking ways to improve your health! With a little research and experimentation, I'm sure you'll come away with a diabetic-friendly diet that is also easy on your conscience.

yes they can have fruit... the whole fruit... just not juiced.
unless they are doing a fast... then as long as they add greens to their juice (and watch their blood sugar levels) they should be okay. they just wouldn't make pineapple juice without a lot of greens and light on the pineapple... cause that would not be good for them at all.
